@aliwhitwell gotta remember. After Earl everyone was playing 3 finger style and trying to break out of the mold of earl scruggs. Carl was one of the best IMO to do that.. carl is simply trying to be different. However i agree..WAY TO FAST...but then again, no one can play it like earl

I know Carl when he lived in Mississippi with his parents and was still a teenager. He was really nice then and we played different styles but had a good time at his home. Just saw him with Emmy Lou and remembered about those times.
I am from 12 miles west of NYC, I love this stuff. My fiancee however is from Carl Jackson's home state of Mississippi and she programs the XM radio so that the Bluegrss station doesn't even show up. Sad to me to somehow not appreciate this gendre that is full of talents on slide and like Mr. Jackson on banjo. Thanks for this gem!
its good to know there are so many people that still love this kind of music... i'll be sure to let him know when i see him at christmas (there is a benefit at the Strand Theater in Louisville every year with him, family and friend) btw i'm his nephew
I saw carl and jd crowe perform on stage together and was blown away when i saw jd play the strings and carl come up and fret this was my first offical bluegrass festival I didn't know jd crowe from carl jackson until that point...now for the last 10yrs they and many others have blown me away..I have come along way for being a newbee yet to all this great music...utbue is a big help!
CJ was an incredible banjo player; this video only shows speed, but he had amazing melodic chops that no one else had. I saw him as a teen playing for Jim and Jessie, and he was the best I'd ever seen. Too bad there isn't more recorded material of his banjo playing.
Amazing banjo picking but much too fast for my taste.
