@rayman2470 This footage was shot with a telephoto lens, so we are not close to it. If you were adjacent to the lava, it would be unbearably hot. We were there on a cloudy day (perfect light for photography, not washed out) and it was windy and rainy, so rather than being too hot, we were actually very cold.

@thebellatwins2011 Molten basalt is red because it’s very hot (2000 F, 1200 C). As it cools down, it solidifies; it’s black because of abundant iron and magnesium. Similarly, the burner (heating element) on a stovetop is black, but when it gets hot, turns red.
