  • People need to stop being such wimps about what it is and give it a go. Our ancestors would give us a slap for being too squeamish to eat it. To any vegetarian; at least it uses parts of the animal that would otherwise have been wasted.

    Traditionally it was made of human blood but in the great baby slaughter of 1568, which led to numerous black pudding wars and massive generation damage, it was decided that pigs were more plentiful than, in fact, babies.

    There is common misconception that black pudding is still made of the blood of babies, especially orphaned babies. This, however, is simply not the case. Sadly it has become illegal to kill babies for black pudding but few rebels still do so on the borders.

  • Black Pudding is delicious! Especially the spicy ones. I used to LOVE it....Until my mom showed me how to make it...I'm very squeamish when it comes to blood. I wish she'd never showed me that.... :(

  • it's funny how this changes in every country in my country we use rice, in trinidad i hear they use bread and you guys use oatmeal ......I think I'll actually try it with oatmeal .

  • RS Ireland black pudding is awesome. But why can't you buy it in London?

    I found some in a butcher in Yorkshire and it was so good I bought a ton of it for the freezer. It did cause some alarm at Leeds Bradford airport though when it went through the X-Ray machine :-)

    Seriously, this is one of the best black puddings I've come across, but I just can't find it down South.

    i totally agree with you charlie barley's black pudding is shite im talking about Macleod's black pudding. Charlie Barleys is awfull.

  • Just about everybody I've eer known has had the typical reaction: "Urgh! It's blood! How can you eat that?"

    Those who have tried a really good black puding can only pity these poor souls who are missing out on something so tasty because of their prejudices.

  • In Mexico they make a similar product called "moronga". It has rice on it instead of oatmeal, we use to eat it in tacos and its delicious!. Spain and Argentina do the same, but they call it "morcilla". And I know there are still more conutries that have a variation of it. Bon apetite!

  • I just came across this site and right away, it took me back to my childhood days, and Moulineuax's stall on Darwen's outdoor market. They had Black puddings, piping hot, with the mustard ready for you to ladle on to your taste. How I miss them, Obviously, comments from people who are religious fanatics , don`t realize that God didn`t write any of the nonsense they speak of, (the Bible was entirely written by humans,) get real, and understand that this rubbish has nothing to do with good food.

  • I live in America in the state of Florida. Finding black pudding here is probably as difficult as getting a tastycake brand pies in the United Kingdom. But I will keep looking. Thanks for the info on how it tastes. It sounds good.

  • Sounds tasty! Looks the same but seems to be a little different from the german Blutwurst. I would like to taste some black pudding to know it.

    But what is a vegetarian black pudding? A castrated black pudding? Black pudding for a mollycoddle? Sorry, but to me it's a contradiction in terms. On the other hand: who knows? Maybe it tastes good...

  • It does taste quite different to Blutwurst and the texture is much firmer, but if you like blutwurst I'm sure you will like black pudding :)

  • This is the recipe I used in my shop for "Blackies " 9.25lb. fresh ox blood, 2.5lb. oatmeal, 1.3lb. ground rice, 5.5lb. beef suet. 3 large diced onions, chopped mint leaves. Spices : salt, black pepper, savoury, allspice, cayenne and a dash of nutmeg. Mixed and left to soak overnight, stuffed into beef rounds, cooked for 40 minutes in water at @ 185 dgrees, bloody brilliant !!
