the norfolk southern will again revive it's steam program in cooperation with the tennessee valley railroad museum starting next year! check out their web site!
Thanks for the video's. I would love to see her run again in person. I remember at 10 yrs. old in birmingham she was something.I had the chance to ride behind her a few times from birmingham to chattanooga and I would have love to have the opportunity for my son to see her today. My father knew a few guys at the birmingham shops and I was able to visit there when we lived in birmingham. 1985 has been a while.
Im tired of seeing these negative comments toward the ending of the NS steam program. NS knows that you, me, and every other young or old railfan on the planet wants to see 611 and 1218 operable. If you want to make a difference, expressing your opinion about past executive decisions on youtube isn't the way to do it. Im happy to see more young interest, but If you want to see these, or other engines run bad enough than start getting yourselves involved, go volunteer.
that decision that NS made was really stupid. that NW 611 is my favorite train in the world. heck NW built the 611 to operate not just sit in a garuage for the rest of time. i think they should operate it again. dont you guys agree with me?
The NW 611 and 1218 are the real ambassadors these Funits should be thrown out a window, they are nice but, a steam locomotive talks to you, its a living breathing beast a diesel locomotive is not, The NS should go to hell.
The NS decision to kill the program was the stupidest cooperate decision ever!! Norris Yards and the building that once housed that program are just a few miles from my house. We miss those locomotives more than anyone can know. All all to save a couple of bucks. When the decision was made, the whole program was dismantled in such a way it could never be put back together. They had a massive yard sale and got rid of every item related to the program. 611 and 1218 sitting idle is just wrong!!
I couldn't agree with you more, this was one of the best programs ever, Look at your UK pals why the hell with them laddies they are building steam locomotives from scratch and were killing ours, how dare the NS Kill the program, lots of people would love to see the program, boy I shure wood
Awesome awesome awesome! Wish NS would get their head out of their wallet and run this magnificent train again...but I'm not holding my breath for that one...5***** Video and Favorite!
Never trust large companies to keep thier steam engines running. Privately owned steam engines like 1225 and 765 and 4449 stay running. Makes me cry seeing her in a meuseam.
Actually, it was a good thing it's publicly owned. It allows for people who are dedicated to steam to volunteer their time to maintain these locomotives. :)

I think most of us think that is what NS has meant for some time now.

not a 611/ 1218 comment but glad to say that 630/4501 prospects for the future look brighter.

I didn't realize the 2716 was still in birmingham in 1994.

I would take the jail time just to take one good swing at everyone of those cocksuckers who was responsable for mothballing 611 and 1218.
