@stardusth20 is right. Mariah is lip-syncing certains parts of the songs and the pre-recorded vocals pan in and out and the mic is left on so you can hear the air pushing out and making a whistle sound when she is lipping it.

@cersus it was recorded in a studio. (not a recording studio) a studio used for taping performances. there was most likely no crowd there..just her and the band and chior there to record the performance so it can be on tv.

@tertra114: Sorry, not correct. She's "belting" live multiple times in the song without the high pitched sound. It only occurs when she's miming because, like you said, there's air being forced through the vocal cords. That's how you mime; in order for it to look real you have to breathe and that makes noise. Have you never lip-synched to a song before? Gritty and raspy = live. Computer smoothed with breath-squeal = mimed.

Yeah I heard that Bye bye-version. It really sounds more like air escaping than any type of singing though. Could be Mary Ann, but why haven´t we heard more versions with her singing entire verses octavated above Mimi in high pitch? I´ve only heard small parts of songs when the background vocalists make flute attempts, and not like this -rearranging whole songs.

The whistle back noise is NOT a back UP you stupid desperate poor, brainless lambies, if it was a back up singer doing that awful thing, he should be fired right after that LMAO!!! This is Mariah trying to make the back track more realistic by pretending she is doing the note, but unfortunay for her, not only air is coming out of her throatbut an ugly uncontrolled whistle, her mic is still open, tat's why we can hear both. It would make no sense to ask a back up to do such an ugly whistle

You people are really deluded if you think the backup is causing that whistling noise. It's obviously Mariah Carey singing along to a backing track that helps add weight to her belts. Her nodules at the time are causing an unintended whistle effect.

@cersus it was recorded in a studio. (not a recording studio) a studio used for taping performances. there was most likely no crowd there..just her and the band and chior there to record the performance so it can be on tv.

she is indeed singing live..but sometimes she just lets the backing track take over at some parts and she will just sing BEHIND IT with alot of AIR. witch causes a "WHISTLING NOISE". its not the backround singers, its mariah making the noise behind the track sometimes..

@driftingdrought bullshit YES 100 % LIVE, there are few live performances of this song and all of them are live. i can hear how she strains her voice especially in that high 3:30-37 2:48/2:57/3:24 she overuse her voice because of that you hear a little whistle in the beltings parts sometimes. you are just jealous, thats a fact. i have head phones and hear it cristal clear 100 % live performance of a LEGEND.

@tertra114: Sorry, not correct. She's "belting" live multiple times in the song without the high pitched sound. It only occurs when she's miming because, like you said, there's air being forced through the vocal cords. That's how you mime; in order for it to look real you have to breathe and that makes noise. Have you never lip-synched to a song before? Gritty and raspy = live. Computer smoothed with breath-squeal = mimed.

I mean if she was breathing then it wouldnt make a whistle that never happens, you would hear a harsh breathing against the microphone, i have read where someone has said that a doctor told her that her voice splits, and its like dealing with two voices. @MCsVoice97 O my God. That was 3 months ago, i figured it was lipped afterward and i do accept she lips and that everything on thet our besides MIH , Il be there and My all had a backing track. Believe me i am discernative i know way more than most mariah fans do themselves. I know there were lipped parts here but either way she has enough great live performance's done in the past 5 years to prove she's amazing. She can sing the song and she's still amazing, at least i believe so.....

Nothing to get too upset over, she could use a confidence booster but she's a legend proved so much had an incredible prime, still has kept her voice (although in the past few years she has been inconsistent). Yeah I heard that Bye bye-version. It really sounds more like air escaping than any type of singing though. Could be Mary Ann, but why haven´t we heard more versions with her singing entire verses octavated above Mimi in high pitch? I´ve only heard small parts of songs when the background vocalists make flute attempts, and not like this -rearranging whole songs.
Mariah is wise to rest from the most damaging vocals from time to time, and by doing so, she´s really improved the condition.

It´s live at the beginning but lipsynched when the belting starts and through the end of the song, you can easily hear it from the faint "squeel" in the "background" wich is actually air pressing from her throught as she mimics the singing in a forceful way.
She CAN do it totally live though, no question! But everyone needs their rest for Gods sake.
