BTW, any election, be electronic or in paper and pen, is "hackable". Everything about fraud depends of the people knowledge and culture. In Spain the elector can vote by SMS, for example, and the risk of fraud is very low.

I would absolutely support eletronic voting if...electronic recall were passed into law with it. Having worked the last election where these machines were used along with the old.....NO WAY IN HELL can this occure "in the real world". The security seals, tapes, double keys in sealed envelopes, etc. Just because 3 computer experts took a month to do this on a "captured" machine does not mean in the real world this can occure. Be brave and voluteer to get trained and work an election. You'll get your eyes opened.

The record tape inside machine can be altered by virus, just as the Benedict Arnold victory showed on the tape. This is the so-called "paper trail" we voters are told is a real paper trail. Totally controllable by the PTB.

You can't give people a piece of paper showing how they voted. It would be too easy for people to buy votes. Show your receipt that you voted for 'X' candidate...get your free gift (or more likely cash).
What you can do is create a paper trail of each vote that can be used to verify that the machines were accurate. Most states (Ohio for sure) requires this "Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail". When there is any question, the paper trail is the official ballot of the voter. In fact, in Ohio the paper trail is used in all recounts.
There is not one single documented case of someone hacking an actual voting machine that being used during an election.
The electronic machines are far more accurate and reliable than any other system. Anything counted by humans is subject to human error.
In order to write a virus like this one the hacker would have to have access to the source code and the election programming done by the local board of elections. Otherwise they can't create votes the main server will accept.
I say, go back to the past. Paper votes should be back in.
The only reason they brought out this method was because of the lazy, Uninterested workers that were chose to count the vote's, decided they'd had enough.

He went in front of diebold to expose the code in which was used on the memory card and said the structure is already there to rig an election. Nothing wrong with electronic voting, but a paper trail must be created for a proper recount. That paper trail should appear in a window to the voter prior to submitting the vote, so that a cross check can take place. There are machines that do it. Not using them all the time is problematic to say the least.
Even if american does go back to paper ballots, we still have the issue of the electoral college picking the president. Look at the 2000 elections, Al Gore won the popular vote, but not the electoral college. Result? The clusterfuck that has been the past almost 4 years.

You can't give people a piece of paper showing how they voted. It would be too easy for people to buy votes. Show your receipt that you voted for 'X' candidate...get your free gift (or more likely cash).

What you can do is create a paper trail of each vote that can be used to verify that the machines were accurate. Most states (Ohio for sure) requires this "Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail". When there is any question, the paper trail is the official ballot of the voter. In fact, in Ohio the paper trail is used in all recounts.

There is not one single documented case of someone hacking an actual voting machine that being used during an election.
The electronic machines are far more accurate and reliable than any other system. Anything counted by humans is subject to human error.
In order to write a virus like this one the hacker would have to have access to the source code and the election programming done by the local board of elections. Otherwise they can't create votes the main server will accept.

The only reason they brought out this method was because of the lazy, Uninterested workers that were chose to count the vote's, decided they'd had enough.
Respecting they're wish, why not have paper votes, that are inserted into a machine such as this, except the machine will be part of the wall, and only the slot for inserting the ticket will be visible.

Seems to me that pretty much anyone could palm a small super-magnet, and wipe out all the code to break the machine and register zero votes. No information would be preferable to corrupt information, and might force a re-vote with paper ballots like the rest of the Western nations use.

Another interesting thing is I watched Fox's results (for one minute, I dont watch them ever now, just keeping one eye on the enemy) and they reported mccain,romney,giuliani,thompson(even at 1%) in that order of largest amount of percent to least and guess what Ron Paul's name didnt even show up on the results period.

These machines ALREADY HAVE HIDDEN SOURCE CODE programmed inside when they use them for federal elections, you don't need any additional malicious software to tamper the votes. CNN wants you to think that you need somebody to open the lock and insert a disk in order to change the votes. Of course that is never going to happen when everybody's standing around the machines. you are right though. When the original swedish hacker did a test election he used code already on the memory card. He went in front of diebold to expose the code in which was used on the memory card and said the structure is already there to rig an election. Then diebold disputed this accusation and said it wasn't true, so the hacker proved beyond a doubt he was telling the truth, and nothing happened to diebold why?

It could of been an unintentional whitewash due to a misconception or not understanding. However due remember after the Iowa primary CNN said this "Giuliani narrowly competed with Mccain/thompson" so they were saying that giuliani with his 3% narrowly competed with mccain/thompson with their 13%, when in reality they should of said Ron Paul with his 10% narrowly competed with mccain's 13%.

Nothing wrong with electronic voting, but a paper trail must be created for a proper recount. That paper trail should appear in a window to the voter prior to submitting the vote, so that a cross check can take place. There are machines that do it. Not using them all the time is problematic to say the least.

Even if american does go back to paper ballots, we still have the issue of the electoral college picking the president. Look at the 2000 elections, Al Gore won the popular vote, but not the electoral college. Result? The clusterfuck that has been the past almost 4 years.

There must be a way of doing E VOTE safely and in REAL TIME.. Every voter individually should be allowed to compare their vote online at any time and see if votes where reported correctly. Anything different could be reported any time by making a copy database available for comparison...(captchas and other eye ID technologies could be implemented to make sure the voter is who he say he is)... Anything is possible... But DIebolds definitely SUCK as our president, coincidence?

it's always essential that a recount can be performed, with digital systems the recount will inevitably be identical to the original count - either just as sound or just as flawed.
voter-verified paper receipts are the cheapest and most sensible way imo.

heh, this is ridiculously old news. Anyone involved in technology knows how simple it is. Diebold is a joke, and any election using this or any electronic vote counting is subject to hacking. Its software, it does what its told, regardless of input.
Anyone who believes electronic voting is safe and reliable, does not work with computers at any level beyond "user".

While they demonstrate that its hackable. A hacker wouldn't know how to program a virus without knowing its OS or how its operate. Theres no such this as universal virus. You cant just stick a mem card in that thing with virus on it and it just magically somehow hack the machine.

My point is, people seems to have this idea that a computer is hackable in 30 min or less. Even if you grab a pro hacker on election day and say to him that go hack that voting machine and I want my candidate to win, he cant. A hacker needs to access the voting machine, know its ins and out, its OS and the voting program. The video that was posted is a hacker with access to that voting machine.

the "report" left out key details, of course thats how the Communist News Network operates.
The "report" didn't say how many students/professors worked on the virus. Or how many days, months or years it took to design the virus. It left out the FACT that they also had a free, unsecured machine with the keys to reverse-engineer.
