Quick checking of breathing is done while drying the infant. Suctioning is not applicable na unless the mouth and nose are blocked with secretions or other material because routine suctioning may cause trauma or infection. Also, we do not slap the baby or hang it upside down like we did before.
milking of the cord towards the baby is a NO NO na since it can cause polycythemia at lalapot ang blood ng newborn. it can result to intraventricular hemorrhage as well.
pinapatagal lang ang madali at hindi complicated na process. Is it not part of cord care practice in acquiring anthropometric measurements?nothing has been mentioned in this stupid video (no offense).I am part of the medical team and I would say that this process is much more complicated than the other one, since in the original setting it is the nurse that is doing the cord care not the pediatrician specially from public institutions. I cant blame if we were scrutinized by foreign practitioners
@tempvris it was not shown here (doesnt mean its stupid cause this is not the complete ENC) but weighing of NB is done AFTER the first full Breast feeding. And NO, anthropometric measurement is not part of cord care its is a part of NEW BORN CARE.
hello...to sum up, there are 4 core evidence based steps and in this sequence: 1. Immediate and thorough drying, 2. skin to skin contact, 3.properly timed cord clamping (bet 1 and 3 min), 4. non separation of the newborn from mother for early initiation of breastfeeding. It is being done in government and private hospitals alike..from Fabella to St. Luke's. Yes, it'll be in the board exams 2012. Ask us your questions...Check us out the facebook page..like us, Unang Yakap-EINC :) Thanks!

@bengrivera the DOH administrative order re: implementation of the Essential Newborn Care (ENC) was in effect from December 2009...it is just taking time to shed the old, learned ways to this standard of care
comment lang sa video... sana ma improve lalo na kung gagamiting training material, una - sana proper ang paraanng pag scrub ng doctor (kung hindi man, dapat tama pa din ang pag scrub, ang pagbanlaw ng arm ay tip of fingers to elbow, and you dont do it elbow to fingers); hindi din malinaw kung ang pag-dry sa baby ay nauna sa pag-cut ng cord (kasi naunang ipinakita ang pag-dry ng baby); and importante ang pag suction ng baby, hindi ito dapat i leave out.. thanks
@bengrivera bago na po ang protocol dry the baby first then kapag cutting of cord aantayin mo mawala yung pulsation yan na po ang tinuturo ngayon medyo outdated napo yung alam mo hindi narin po applicable ang suctioning "theoretically" unless may respiratory distress ang baby.. panoorin mo uli yung video naka numbering naman ang procedure....
@shellapunx great..you are up to date..re: suctioning, it will only be done if with indication, that is, if there is an actual obstruction in the airways hindering the baby's breathing. Over 90% of newborns will be able to clear their airways on their own without need for help at all. They just need a bit of stimulation done through drying and that is it! @deejay012189 hi, this same standard of care is now in implementation at the QMMC, Fabella, PGH, JRMMC, Tondo Medical Center, San Lorenzo Ruiz Women's Hospital, Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center, Cotobato Regional Hospital, General Santos City Medical Center :)
dapat ginagawa to sa lahat ng hospital...this is very important...dami mga maling practices ang patuloy na ginagawa kaya marami ang hindi nagsusurvive na sanggol sa bansa.

it promotes maternal bonding kc :) and natural namang nawawala yung mga secretions pag nakaprone position na yung baby.

It is very hard to implement in a government hospital dahil sa sobrang dami ng patient
