I remember watching this commercial back in 1965 but this is the very FIRST time I've seen it in COLOR because I didn't have a color TV set until 1977! P.S. My favorite potato chips were " Wise" potato chips. Don't see them in the Wash.D.C. area anymore. Also, I have to go down "South" to buy Karo Waffle Syrup (Green Label) . The Dark Karo and the Light Karo is available in my "neck of the woods". Happy 4th of July to all!
Anyone remember the Lays commercial with the Germans in a submarine, the captain telling everyone to be quiet as there are enemy ships above and one crew member eats a potato chip, the crunching sound being picked up by sonar and the sub getting blown up by depth charge and the commercial ends with the crew in a life-raft singing a stirring Germanic version of the "Lays Potato Chips, no one can eat just one" song? Try finding that!
Delaycious! AHAHAHAAHAHA! "Bet you can't have just one" was the first thing that came out of my mouth before the first chip from the bag went in my mouth. lol
I could eat just one but I'd probably get shipped to the loony bin within an hour. LOL I love the salt and vinegar ones the most. You could munch on 50 bags and they never lose their flavor.
Does anyone rememebr Snagglepuss's voice Daws Butler having to be credited for a Kellog's ad becuase of his impersonaiton of Bert Lah'rs famous "Wizard of Oz" Lion....it's leg-jen-dary even..hevaens!
@CatpurrRobertaBobbi - Well, look at it this way: Just like Bert Lahr, Buster Keaton did TV ads in the late part of his career. It kept him working, brought in money, and made people remember him longer. Who could ask for anything more?
YES! Your reply is old but I remember it as a kid: crunching sound of potato chip, commander angry and worried that the noise will give away their postion, one last crunch by junior crewman and BOOM!
Next frame, some of them on a rubber raft singing the "No one can eat just one..." song. I so wish some YouTuber could root this one out.
I have seen the longer version , it is very funny . When he first confronts "the devil" he asks "Where did you come from?" then realizeling who it is he says "Never mind , don't tell me " *LOL*
not sure if on the weird side of youtube

What? Satan wants some chips? And he can't resist the temptation to eat more than one? And he sold his soul to Lays?

Dear Verbusen, The producer, director and Mr.Neil Simon did get the idea of
The Frumpies TV audition from The Lays Potato chips tv plugs. Though..I doubt that It came from this commercial?

They must have gotten that bit with Matthau tyring out for the Frumpies commercial (Sunshine Boys) from this, pretty classic!

I've read that Bert Lahr made more money from these commercials than he did from all the movies he made.

Do you have any other Lays commercials from the same few years? I'm looking for the one about the U-Boat crew.

Thank you for answering. Someone is bound to have it, because it used to show up on those TV specials devoted to commercials.

Wonderful. Get the Devil to sell your potato chips. Twenty years later, we have Death Metal.
