  • Workers are a minority in Korea. The most voters are self-employed or work on construction sites.

  • He was a great president but he made one last big mistake-he antagonised the landowners who form at least 70% of Korean voter base. Korea's history was formed fundamentally different than Europe's where widespread land ownership is not possible.

  • Wow, this vid has had permanent honors for 17 months. It started as #1.

  • I love this video, 분당베어 (^_^)

I have never watched such a great video in English like this.

  • Roh deserves credit for everything you said and more Bundang. As I read somewhere in other tributary clip, he truly fought for 90% of the common folk instead of 10% elite and corporate interest. How often in the history of politics in anywhere around the world including USA the beacon of democracy that this happens? Rarely. If ever. And for that, he was politically assassinated. He may have taken his life but he has inspired the masses. I'd like to see 2MB try to match that.

  • I feel sad for the Prez Roh but still he is a disgrace to Koreans in the eyes of the world since he commited suicide after people found out that he took money from many lobbists in Korea.

  • @sinxjohn92ab thats what the media says. most netizens find evidence its not suicide. Also he did not take money. His wife recived a watch and hanara party is using that as their evidence. and they expect us to believe it was suicide.. He was in the middle of writing a great book and was active in teaching koreans. .

  • unorthodoxtrotsky knows nothing. Where do you get ur info? Not Chosun Ilbo? Dont listen to unorthro

  • @mountedantman

Any idiot can tell me that I know "nothing" but it takes intelligence to back your statement. I am definitely not getting my reference from Chosun Ilbo. To assume anyone who are criticial toward RMH is simply "Right-wing" is nonsense. Vast majority of actual Leftists in SK were critical toward RMH from every journalists in Hankyureh to members of Democratic Labor Party. "SK-U.S. FTA" was originated by RMH and "Media Insult Law" was also originated by him as well.

  • @unorthodoxtrotsky

ok, u know something, but how can journalists say anything good about roh when the hanara party is loading each and every one with "gift money". Also the newspapers loudly made it seem as the economy died under roh but in actually there was more growth than under 2mb.

  • @mountedantman

For your information, Hankyureh wasn't funded by GNP. You are mistaken independent progressive media with mainstream medias who are funded by same corporations that also fund "business friendly" party like GNP. Hankyureh's columnists like Hong Se Hwa and Park Noja(who is also university professor) criticized RMH for being closer to GNP. Other independent journalist like Kim Kyu Hwang and historian Han Hong Koo also criticized RMH for his pro-corporate policy.

  • @mountedantman

Politician such as Shim Sang Jung who was a member of Democratic Labor Party(she's currently a member of New Progressive Party) also criticized RMH that there really is no clear distinction from GNP to himself. GNP's connection have nothing to do with this since GNP doesn't have any connection with these individuals. These individuals are also strongly critical toward GNP. You are right about fabrication that mainstream media have made about SK's economy under RMH.

  • @mountedantman

As much as you are right that economy have developed during RMH's presidency(actually economy was developing since KDJ's presidency), such market-oriented anaylsis are misleading. First, while economy did improved, accumulation of capital also increased as well. So under RMH, although economy have developed, more wealth was concentrated for corporations while relatively lesser amount of wealth went to workers. While economy developed, lives of SK's working class gotten worst.

  • @mountedantman

And we must not forget that although economy developed under RMH(and KDJ), rates of irregular workers also increased. It was 52% during KDJ and it increased to 55% under RMH and now it is 60% under 2MB. Irregular workers only get paid half of what regular workers are getting paid. So while economy developed under RMH, overall wages declined which made lives of working people more difficult even though economy have developed. Same principle also exist under 2MB as well.

  • @mountedantman

I know many South Koreans are extremely frustrated with current president and so do I. And it is also understandable that today's South Koreans actually misses RMH. But it is wrong to assume that RMH and LMB are representation of political dichotomy in SK when he was often accused of being no different from GNP.

  • @unorthodoxtrotsky ok, dont u even know that roh was basically poor because he spent the money that was allowed for private use for initiating his vision ? what is ur statement. is roh corrupt, or incompetent, or misled, or indulging?

  • @mountedantman

My point was whether it is 2MB or RMH, they lead politic that was supported and funded by big corporations which means politics(regardless of whether it was RMH or is 2MB) will serve the interest of big corporations rather than common people of SK.

  • @unorthodoxtrotsky idk bout that but RMH benefitted both the rich and poor compared to other presidents. Just because some of his policies promoted economic growth doesnt mean the rest of the citizen suffer as a result. THe growth of corporations like samsung and hyndai like never before broght revenue into korea and it was managed so that more money circulated andd benefitted everyone with social welfare servicees.

  • @mountedantman

"RMH benefitted[sic] both the rich and poor compared to other presidents"? I didn't said RMH was the worst president. NO. lol I will prefer RMH over any other presidents before KDJ. But you have to understand your statement. Benefiting both rich and poor isn't as equal as it might sound considering the gap between rich and poor(SK have 2nd highest gap between rich and poor among OECD nations). Benefits were distributed out of economic growth.

  • @mountedantman

However, benefits for poor relatively declined in relation to actual economic growth under RMH. So while rich don't need any benefits received benefits while poor needs more benefits received it while there were greater economic growth. So compare to actual rise of values, rise of wages and benefits for poor was RELATIVELY lower. This was dynamic phenomena of economy and classes in SK under KDJ, RMH and 2MB.

  • @mountedantman

And as you said, profits did increased for major corporations in SK under RMH, But there are various factors we need to take a look at. All SK's major corporations have nearly 50% of foreign investments. Samsung have little more higher than 50% foreign investments. And they are mostly American investments. And yes, this helps SK's major corporations to grow but at same time, that amount of profits also accumulated back to foreign investors

  • @mountedantman

This system minimized the growth of wages for Korean workers. Also note, why are SK corporations so desirable for foreign investments to begin with? SK corporations are desirable (and one of reason) is due to low paid irregular workers. It is great chance for foreign investors to make money by spending it less. So despite some rise of wages, vast majority of profits have(and still are) accumulated for SK capitalists and foreign investors while leaving workers few.

  • @mountedantman

Yes, there were rise of "few" but in relation to actual economic growth, it still is very "few". Also major corporations like Samsung and Hyundai only represents 20% of SK's corporations and majority of them are smaller corporations. Workers who are employed under these major corporations are 10% of all employed workers in SK. Thing about SK's major corporations are they rely on Japanese small corporations' raw productions.

  • @mountedantman

And these small Japanese corporations are actually being benefited through growth of SK big corporations which leaves raw production making SK small corporations more underdeveloped and become more marginalized from competitions. This also forces small corporations to increase accumulation of capital in order to maintain competitions and leaves greater exploitation of SK's 90% of both regular and irregular workers.

  • @mountedantman

So yes, there are rise of wages and benefits for poor working class(and this was specially so under RMH) but it is insignificant in relation to actual economic growth and development of major corporations that benefits SK capitalists, foreign investors(mostly Americans) and Japanese corporations. This have been common neoliberal economic policy that was shaped by KDJ and developed by RMH and 2MB. RMH even refer to himself as "Leftist neoliberal". That is nonsense!

  • @unorthodoxtrotsky

    @unorthodoxtrotsky

Do you think that many of the rises for the working class could have been because of actual class struggle eg union action and fear of working class discontent, rather than RMH being benovalent? I read that in 2004 wages increased for the first time since the economic crisis of the late 90s, however I also read that this was also the time when the unions took more aggressive steps towards improving the conditions of workers.

  • @marxian00

I think many of the rises for working class was due to their anger and disappointment against RMH. Rise of wages during 2004 may have caused by workers' struggle but I think rate of accumulation increased as well. So despite the rise of wages, rate of exploitation increased as well. That was the process in RMH's presidency. And also percentage of irregular workers increased under RMH to 55%.

  • 고맙습니다. (_ _) (- _ -) ( _ _)

  • "Babo" in the context:

In the dirty Korean politics, a description of being completely clean, upright, and idealistic, without any compromises that is sometimes viewed "stupid" by those who support Hannara Party, the party that seeks to maintain the status quo of their grasp of power and money.

  • @minjae34 Thanks for teaching me. It took me awhile to understand that. Now I feel so stupid!

  • Thank you so much. I really appreciate your speaking about our president. We always miss him. He is my hero, too. I really miss him.

  • thank you for this video and doing this. Thank you so much.

  • I thank you, too

  • Thank you.

  • And that is in U.S. political spectrum, there really is no leftist party. U.S. liberals are center-right(like Roh Moo Hyun and Kim Dae Joong). Democratic Party may receive supports from NOW and labor union but significant influences comes from corporation and policy which they supports are for interests of major corporations. In U.S. we don't have parties like Social Democratic Party or Socialist Party in parliament as they do in Europe. Even South Korea have Democratic Labor Party.

  • Roh Moo Hyun was "the first American styled liberal"? I won't disagree with that. Everything I've criticized about him reflects his liberalism. I recall you said in one of your other video that you are a "liberal" and that you "lead toward left". But thing is liberals might have been leftist camp during bourgeois revolution but since later half of 19th Century liberals were no longer leftists. There is problem and limitation of understanding liberalism-left among American people.

  • Roh Moo Hyun also gave tax cuts for rich while increase more tax against poor for more corporate funding. If you are "anti-corporatist", I don't know how you can respect president Roh. During Roh's presidency, many South Koreans longed for Park Jung Hee and it was Roh's domestic policy that forced many South Koreans to vote for Lee Myung Bak. But in reality, Roh and Lee shared more of common ground than difference. Now Roh is being missed since Lee's presidency turned into dictatorship.

  • @unorthodoxtrotsky You must admit they had NO common ground on NK policy, right? We could use Roh right now! RIP RMH!

  • @bundangbear

I think they do have common ground with NK policy. They both wanted a country to be divided. GNP want to remain divided through Bush-style unilateralism while KDJ and RMH wanted to remain divided through neoliberal alternative. KDJ clearly admitted that even "sunshine policy" does work in its principle, unification shouldn't be expected within next 30 years or more. During that process, KDJ wanted gradual process of liberalizing NK market with SK.

  • @bundangbear

This liberalization of NK market(which NK also want) means relocating SK capital to NK while NK provide labor. Even RMH stated that combination of "rich capital" of SK and "rich labor" of NK can be successful for both countries. But for defender of capitalism like RMH, "rich labor" basically means "cheap labor". This "gradual process toward unification" will be very profitable for SK capitalists through cheap labor of NK but it will be profitable for NK.

  • @bundangbear

Since wage will be accumulated in favor of state bureaucrats of NK over NK workers. This will lead to major exploitation of NK as well as increase of unemployment as well as lowering of wages in SK. This "sunshine policy" is thus more profitable for ruling class of both countries while working class will suffer more from it. And KDJ and RMH are supporting this while maintaining two countries divided and preserving "National Security Act" which still recognize NK as an enemy.

  • @bundangbear

Political rhetoric in favor of "sunshine policy" is that NK and SK are developing "relationship". But such relationship is in form of competition for profits rather than genuine progressive diplomacy that will actually make two countries together for actual unification. So in certain sense, there are greater calculated conservatism with KDJ and RMH than GNP when it comes to NK policy. They are supporting "relationship" with NK in order to maintain division.

  • @bundangbear

And we are seeing two opposite side of same coin when it comes to idiocy and naivette of Right and Left in SK. There are mild liberals and defender of Democratic Party who think "sunshine policy" is pro-unification and progressive while hard Right think it is "pro-North Korean" which its actual attempt is to "sell the entire nation to NK and 'communize' it". But they are both wrong and simple minded.

  • @bundangbear

However, I will admit that compare to the fact there we almost had war before KDJ under Kim Young Sam and Clinton as well as today's completely messed up conspiracy fabrication of current SK president, I do think "sunshine policy" was bit better. At least it situated people of both NK and SK in safety.

  • @bundangbear they had no common ground. Myung bak destroyed everything RMH worked for.

  • @unorthodoxtrotsky I dunno about that but 1) there are barely any taxes in korea in the first place2) roh worked to make homes more affordable for everyone. 3) no one wants park jung hee back except staunch conservatives

  • @mountedantman

    1) There aren't as many taxes in SK as much as U.S., however SK have least spending for the needs of working class among all OECD nations while U.S. have second least spending for the needs of working class among OECD nations. 2) Actually housing prices increased under RMH's later period. While it took average Koreans to work little less than 10 years to buy houses, during his later term, 10 years of works won't be able to provide houses for average Korean working people.

  • @unorthodoxtrotsky I hope u are not ignoring the fact that under RMH, There was higher taxes for people with several houses and less property taxes for ppl with one house. Also, in Korea, ppl can save money because renting costs zero for many company workers. The companies like samsung lend couple thousend dollars and the employee lends that to the rental person and they can live in rent for free. Then they save money and buy houses, with minimal property tax, unless u buy like 5 for invest.

  • @mountedantman

I think you misunderstood me. Then again I don't blame you since my point here was that RMH wasn't as progressive as he is perceived as. Which in my opinion was mainly mainstream conservative medias that portrayed him as such (and that gave them greater room to criticize progressivism and Leftist politic as whole) It is undeniable that RMH also had some progressive qualities. But if you look at overall his presidency, he DID served more interests of top richest than others.

  • @mountedantman

I have made reply to you in this regard with numerous cases and I even made my point in regard to numerous Right-leaning characteristics of RMH(he called it "flexible progressive" but in U.S. there is better term called "bipartisanship" or to be more cruel "opportunism") 5 months ago when I first made replies to this video. I don't want to repeat all over again here. Let's not forget that it was RMH's presidency that have caused many people to shift in favor of 2MB.

  • @mountedantman

    3) There was a survey that was done during RMH's presidency and 70% of people favored PJH as "best SK's president". Park Noja criticized that many of young people who never had experiences of living under PJH's regime are favoring him. This was also forced Democratic Labor Party to express their concerns. Other Leftist scholar such as Jin Joong Gwon also expressed his criticism of PJH. Common arguments were that economic crisis under RMH have caused people to "homesick" PJH.

  • And he actually developed new policy that guaranteed these "irregular" workers to become "regular" workers after two years of working for companies. But this gave employers authority to fire them before contracted year have arrived. So while he created new jobs, number of "irregular" workers and unemployment increased. And this led to greater accumulation of capital that profited big corporation and leading greater gap between rich and poor.

  • "Irregular" workers don't get any benefits or any chance of getting promotion nor can they join union. And when Roh became a president, he did created some new jobs while he totally ignored the problem with "irregular" workers and as a result, number of "irregular" workers have increased. There were already about 52% of "irregular" workers during Kim Dae Joong's presidency but during Roh's presidency, percentage increased to 56%. This made lives of South Korean working class living hell.

  • This policy which Roh Moo Hyun supported is very destructive for Korean family businesses and lead to greater exploitation against South Korean working class in the interests of capitalist class of both South Korea as well as U.S. and their investors. He also supported "labor flexibility" which started from Kim Dae Joong. What that is is "structural adjustment" that developed "irregular" workers where these workers are contracted for short period(usually around one or two years) with low wage.

  • @unorthodoxtrotsky before, the workers could be used as irregulars forever. the policy did help to certain extent.

  • @mountedantman

RMH's new policy gave employers chance to fire irregular workers before their contracts ended. This is logic of free market. The fact that RMH was able to pass such policy that guaranteed irregular workers to become regular workers, it didn't challenged employers' freedom to terminate workers before such chance to arrive. This basically showed who's side RMH really was. As I stated that irregular workers increased from 52% during KDJ to 55% during RMH.

  • Roh Moo Hyun also supported Korea-U.S. FTA which received full supports from Grand National Party and current president Lee Myung Bak. He lost lots of his supporters who eventually led mass demonstration against Korea-U.S. FTA. South Korean market is already liberalized 70%(while most of developed countries are only liberalized less than 50%) mostly in favor of U.S. capitalists and this policy is suppose to increase even more U.S. investments and relocating U.S. capital in South Korea.

  • He had some anti-American rhetoric during his presidential campaign but what was the first thing he did when he became a president? He supported Bush's invasion of Iraq. This led many of his supporters to street opposing his decision. How about the incident of Pyungtaek in 2006 when he supported expansion of U.S. military territory in Pyungtaek by force demolition of Pyungtaek farmers' houses. He even supported establishing check point through police force to restrict Pyungtaek residents.

  • I can't believe this video. It is undeniable that he was participant of student protest and the fact that he died from suicide indicate that he have some form of guilty consciousness unlike Kim Dae Joong. And regardless, his death is very saddening and I personally was shock to hear the news of his suicide. However, there is difference between judging him as an individual and as a political leader. You are saying that he had "balls" to stand up to U.S.?

  • Comment removed

  • He'll be re-assessed in time. Though opinion is highly polarized now, he was a great man. Every leader does some good and some bad. He took missteps too, afterall it's not easy to please the mass. But he did all he could with integrity and character. Don't see many leaders like that coming from Asia or world for that matter. He'll be missed.

  • I'm delighted by the fact that you know a lot about BABO Roh Moo Hyun and his political intentions. God bless president Roh and you. Thank you for uploading.

  • watch?v=5KBcNXhopPA

  • Only

Roh muhyun and Kim daejung fight against the real irregularities and corruption.

  • My god, how I admired Roh...

  • I'm not sure you're convinced.. if not, I'd like you to google "바보 노무현" and see for yourself.

Anyway, thank you so much for your video showing respect and sadness for our president! I'm so moved!

  • I know what 'babo' means -- I am Korean. And also 'babo Rho Moo Hyun' is, as I stated, a lovely nickname for him among his supporters. The context in which baboRoh is saying does not sound like he's attacking Mr. Rho.

  • 'oh miss president Noh so much.......we won't stop improve our democracy....love freedom and respect and democracy and open minded president.

  • Lastly, just forget about those criticizing Roh. Indeed, most Korean Americans do not view Roh as favorites because they are brainwashed by their parents (not everyone though).

And for Korea's modern history, you can see lots of facisms, but no Korean historians ever put these politicians as facists.

They usually deride "the liberal" as the left wing and the red commies, but they are facists, who are more like Hitler of Nazi.

I don't know why they put name on like Facists.

  • There are many Koreans who consider him and Kim Dae-Jung, one of the greatest president in Korean history. Both men of character, integrity and a sense of justice. Rare thing to see these days in Politics anywhere around the world these days. It's unfortunate the way he was treated in the end. He didn't deserve that at all. It's sickening that Lee Myung-Bak is getting much of the credit for many of the policies and result Roh and Kim started and worked on, and just blamed for mistakes.

  • It kinda echoes what's going on in America how Bush administration took all the credits Clinton did and blamed everything on Clinton the problem caused during Bush's administration like the way they dealt with Al Qaeda. It's really stupid.

  • Hi, thanks for posting ur opinions.

Yeah, I wanted to immigrate to U.S. after my graduation and get a job, but... I wanna go back Korea, fight against those conservatives and see them to go into dusts.

Truly, in my age of 24, I get some idea of how I wanna live on in the future and what I should devote for thanks to Roh.

  • Bundangbear, You rocks! man. I was truly impressed what you've done to support demacracy, freedom, and respect to the people in Soutk Korea.

It really sucks to see the tyrant. Lee, Myungbak f*cks around with such a great people.. the real problem is the tyrant is super f*cktard and it seems there is not much of hope to the people in Korea unless he got impeached. but that;s unlikely gonna happen at this point. interested to see whats gonna happen in next presidential election..in 2012?

  • Whoever is going to be a next president of South Korea, he (or she) isn't going to be like Roh.

  • just my opinion, but i found Roh's suicide very cowardly. Really, it was a way to get his wife and son out of the pit, and a way to escape complete humiliation from the black money.

Anyways, let's not let Roh's death make people hate on Lee Myung Bak. He is an amazing president so far. He even donated about 30,000,000$ which is his whole entire fortune, while Roh stole money in contrast.

  • iL0veCorea?? you need to take some more ESL classes for your freaking Konglish...The current South Korean President, Lee, Myungbak is a serious criminal who actually is F*kng with everyone in South Korea now. I almost puked your freaking kis* a*ss comment on him.. get a real life mozo...

FUCK 2MB

    RIP RMH

  • Should bear make a vid about the possibly of murder? He was telling me he was afraid it would be disrespectful. What do you think? I want him to make the vid!

  • bro my thought are exactly like urs~

RMH was a great president who stood up to high officials from the US and sought unification with NK~ which i think is something SK really needs to really and truly include themselves in world power. but america is preventing SK and NK to unify becuz america wishes to use SK as a military base against china in times to come~ since china is a growing power. rich faggots/officials in korea dont think of the welfare of korea and just suck american dick all day

  • 고맙습니다.

  • agreed and it's not a suicide, but a murder by the dirty media and the puppet prosecution. what does really piss me off is that it seems there's no way to stop them at least for 4 yrs. sighs

    (2) Please don't tell me you're some English teacher in Korea b/c if that's the case the English education system in Korea has an even longer way to go than our democracy.

  • I still blame Kim DaeJoong for killing Pres. Noh, and I believe he gave all the money to North Korea for the nuclear missiles...

EVERYBODY stop blaming Lee Myung Bak and personally technically it's Noh's fault for killing himself for bribes and sudden depression... anyway, I oppose North Korean converging with the south...

  • i agree its kim that gave out shit load of money to nkorea and also noh was one who start the whole thing by saying mb ruin the country n stuff, if was mb and i heard that i would do the same thing, n also ppl say its not suicide, y would you go for hike when u are in searched... confident when he admit that he was being bribed? no i think he dont want ppl to no more about what he did. n its my opinion

  • The 16th President of the Republic of Korea was no different fundamentally from the Presidents he stood up to in the 1980s. Balls to stand up or to give NK the bombs that can be used against the ROK? This gushing over RMH is overdramatic... is that the only thing you've learned in Korea? How to be f**king dramatic??? Do you also admire Eliot Spitzer b/c I don't see any difference.. at least Spitzer had balls to face his wrongdoing like a man.

  • I agree with you. What message does his selfish action convey? Kill yourself when you encounter problems? Suicide is the only way to save face?

  • It was very pitiful funeral. I did not see South Korean flags --- do all the Roh lovers that unpatrotic or stupid? Ex prez and not one loser brought a flag...that tells you something...good riddence. he was a thief anda commie lover!!! All you Roh lovers better defend your country when that crazy North Korean bomb your asses. DO NOT COME BEGGING FOR HELP TO U.S. OR JAPAN!!!!! WE TOLD YOU SOOOOO! Viva South Korea!!! President Park Chung Hee was the MAN!!!

  • I'll never forget you....My Father

  • who's your uncle? Kim Jong ILLL

yeh, you will never forget roh was 2 faced thief!!

  • Roh and DJ Kim is the big fan/ supporter of Kim Jongil and his kingdom. South Koreans deserve da atomic bomb, a gift from da King KIm.

  • Your mom deserves an atomic bomb. Have fun.

  • dalurae/ My mom died in July 14, 2003.

  • U deserve what?

  • Aren't you that guy Cloe? is hating Korea all you do?

  • I love Korea with all my heart, and I want to do what is best for Korea. But 20 million Koreans are starving and suffering. The Sunshine Policy did nothing to solve the problem.

The Sunshine Policy (1998-2008) has had 10 years to bear fruit. So what were the fruit?

Kim Dae Jung and Roh Moo Hyun giving tax from South Korea to North Korea to make nuclear bomb? Nuclear tests in 2006?

  • Cloe, you are now trying to instigate trouble between Koreans; thus you are permanently banned from my site. Please just leave me alone and do not contract me again, you uyoku dantai. You are a Japanese man living in Australia who is far right wing and is trying to destroy Korea form within by trying to get 2MB and RMH supports to fight EACH OTHER. For that behavior, you can not be forgiven. Again, if you contact me again, you will be reported. (by me as well as about 1,000 Koreans.)

  • CLOE is a uyoku dantai Japanese right wing member who has constantly befriended me and tried to debate without name calling, only for me to lose his trust again and again. He now banned for good. Yes, he's a Japanese man who lives in Australia.

President Lee increased welfare spending much more than President Roh.

  • why do you think Korean market crashed after Lee Myung Bak? do you have any evidence for that? why was Korean GDP increasing when Roh Moo hyun was there? What makes you think Pres Lee is doing? don't you know that he is a Japanophile?

  • US market crashed. World market crashed. Lee is not doing well but that doesnt make that Roh did well.

  • What do you mean by "Japanophile"? You seem to be using that simply as a label.

I want you to explain to me how Lee Myung Bak has done something that is against the interests of South Korea but instead favours Japan. Oh, but you can't.

South Korea is a free country. Being friends with other free countries makes sense. You might need a friend, when attacked by North Korea, Russia, or China.

  • every Koreans love Roh, and you hate Roh. So, do you hate every Koreans? I know you're just Jap living in Australia. Please, say it

  • I have proof from my insight program that he is in AUS.

  • As I mentioned before, I think that Roh Mu-Hyeon was playing to the xenophobia and anti-Americanism back in 2002 and 2003, if not directly promoting it.

I like Lee Myeong-Pak better in that regard; ie. he seems more foreign-friendly. However, I think that Lee is wrong in saying that he won't seek any formal apologies from Japan for past colonial crimes, or a reworking of the 1965 treaty, which was greatly flawed in Japan's favour.

It's hard for SK to get a perfect and unbiased leader.

  • May he rest in peace.

  • So, all presidents of Korea have been cought or killed after losing their jobs and the opposing political group allways wins....

    The history doesnt change...

Korea is still a dummy country of America...

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah all exept the first....

  • Your respect towards him is so respectable..Bun Dang Bear, you're a great person...

  • well, he HAD balls. now..just ashes. no more balls!!! how funny...am i not funny?!

    cloebuckingham - you da man!!!!

  • i can tell u that ur not funny but an asshole

  • We say Imperialism is bad. But I think we are more obsessed with imperialism than any other ethnic group. We say that we have to regain Manchuria as it is our lost territory. If you ask Koreans of their opinion on this, I bet 99 out of 100 will say. "Yes, Manchuria is our land and we have to restore it." What Manchurians would think of this? I don't think we are of "Manchurian" culture, either. Koreans desire to build an imperialist country while they say they are victims of imperialism. lol

  • Who are these 99 out 100 you are talking about? Who says Koreans desire to do that? NOT a single school, one of my friends being a middle school teacher teaching Korean history, I've ever heard of teaching that we should restore that part of land. We learn that we were victims but we were also taught to learn lessons not to let those atrocities repeat themselves, but to move forward. What kind of teacher taught you that? Stop spreading nonsense. As if you know anything.

  • are u korean? do u live in korea? this guy lives in korea i think he knows better what korea is like then you are

  • Just because he has more numbers at his fingertips? You made me laugh. One of those kids. lol

  • you bet it that doesnt mean its a fact ur opinion is not a fact dont say all thoes bullshit and u knw Manchuria is chinese land stupid ass hole... north korea is between manchuri and korea dont u know how to read maps /?

  • Wow what did I even say about Manchuria NOT being part of China? I said Koreans do not learn to restore or do whatever related to that part of land. Are you dyslexic? Kid, go to school and learn to READ first.

  • R u a Chinese?

One question..Why Chinese built 'Great Wall' if manchria is a part of China?

The wall is between china and mancuria anyway.

  • People forget what should be talked about here. Those who even hated Roh should either shut up if they don't want to offer condolences or feel sorry for him to have passed that way. What's wrong people talking about "facts" and "figures" to defame the late president? These people really do not have an iota of human decency.

  • A number of South Koreans have bragged to me considerably about how fantastic Samsung is, how Korea will dominate semiconductors, how the Korean economy is growing while Japan's is stagnating, etc. I see so much pride about Korea's accomplishments. So where is your pride,

    dalurae?

Nobody is holding South Korea back. South Korea is prosperous, and you should be proud. I don't understand why you want to compare SK to Zimbabwe.

  • My pride lies in many Koreans' efforts and commitments to leading better lives - and I am proud of what many Koreans have done so far. But what you talked about 'my pride' is again one of your futile attempts to blur the truths - the essence of what we should be talking about here - nobody is holding South Korea back, I didn't say I wasn't proud of what Koreans have done. I didn't even talk about Zimbabwe. Put on your eyeglasses.

  • South Koreans pretend the IMF hurt South Korea. Nobody forced South Korea to borrow from the IMF. The economy quickly stablised, and South Korea repaid all the money ahead of schedule. Before Thatcher, even the UK needed IMF help. The IMF is not a tool for destroying South Korea!

If South Korea ever got all the things it pretends to wish for (no free trade, no US bases, no help from the IMF) what kind of poor, undefended nightmare would South Korea be today? Ah, It would be like North Korea.

  • Who the heck did even talk about IMF? You wanna show off your knowledge? Then stop Youtubeing and get out and gather people around whoever are willing to your nonsense, fact lover. You must have wikipediaed all your life. Good job. Facts have blinded you.

  • When America attacks Korea 21.2% say they shoukd attack Japan[

    31.2% obey America

47.6% want to help North Korea....

    See that..?

Koreans seem anti North Korea but they are North Korea friendly...

  • In South Korea there were so many protests against a free trade agreement with the USA but ZERO protests about a free trade agreement with the EU. It seems that there was nothing wrong with free trade. It was only an excuse to attack the USA.

South Korea's electronic and automotive exports have high value added. What kind of future does South Korea want? High tech or agricultural? Reducing tariffs on South Korean goods is far more important than keeping some agricultural products out.

  • 3929kidnaped、 328ships stolen 44killed by the Korean military to swap 500 criminals in Jail is what the Koreans did at Takeshima...

And the Korean military is planning to fight against Japan(Somehow the Korean president doesnt have control over it and the American commander does)

  • And know the loooong Irak wall?

Koreans painted Takeshima is Korea on it.....

And on takeshima they give out ilegal Japanese anime copy prints but they complained about anime hetalia(when the hetalia is not aniti Korea or goverment owned)

Robot Taekwon should be stoped ,seeing it is the nternational action ran by the Korean Government that is eligal....

  • And another.....

It Takeshima problem really done by Koreans who want to do that..?

The presidents o Korea dont have much power over the Korean military and the American commander is having the power....

And the American president has 100% power over the US force....

And Koreans suddenly killed and kidnaped Japanese to swap for 500 Korean criminals....(mainly rapers)

  • Japan and the USA are two, free and democratic countries that have been allies and friends of South Korea.

If the USA did not protect South Korea in the Korean War, South Koreans would be starving or being tortured like people in North Korea.

Destroying good relations with the USA and Japan will not make South Korea "independent" like North Korea. North Korea is one of the most hated, isolated country on earth.

Engagement, friendship with an evil dictator is absurd, like Neville Chamberlain.
