  • The guy on the right in the pic. reminds me of Lamar Latrell from Revenge of the Nerds.....

  • The 2 dislikes must be from folks who: a) Don't like funk; b) Don't like to dance; c) Don't have rhythym....

  • This were thier first jam on the radio. this is the jam. They should play it now. I love the Reddings. I were a street dancer back in the day and this one was one of the jam that was out then. Poping and locking and break- dancing. Oh yes moon walking also. lol

  • wish these guys had continued recording...

  • this shit was so hott!!!! in 80s real funk!!!!

  • Interesting to find that a lot of Claypool's tones come from the 80's. Don't stop the funk.

  • I don't normally like downloading music for free, but with a band as obscure as the reddings, you gotta do it

  • Daddy Redding had the soul, but his sons had the funk.....i know he was smiling up in heaven knowing that they carried on with the musical tradition!

  • one of the first 45s I ever bought! nice.

  • @msOctober12 I remember when my moms had this joint on 45,too. Just only weeks ago,I brought the 45 at a spot where they also sell 45's along with lp's and 12 inch vinyls in Brooklyn.

  • SERIO

  • They were actually nice looking guys. Never noticed it back then.

  • got on the iPOD for real...Sweet az! Rockin' this sh1t in SAMOA early 80S

  • these guys look just like Otis especially the one in the white shirt. This record reminds me of my lilttle sister Naomi all she knew was REMOTE COTROL and there's a good good feelin on your radio

  • This particular song is also on "Super Rare Disco, Volume 2". But it's not the 5 minute version, it's 4 minutes. I had this on cassette back in 1980.

  • Im from macon and I see Otis III all the time and he doesnt look like that anymore..... he looked much better when he was young. I like the song though.

  • It's a shame that a lot of this stuff is not being reissued.

  • O yes this was reissued! It has been reissued on 'Ferry Maat's soulshow 2004'. A collection of rare soul-grooves.

  • I just purchased that CD last year!! It got grooves on there I haven't heard in ages!

  • @ddrums001 Hey man, i'd love to get some Reddings tunes. May i ask where you got the CD please? Thanks!

  • @birthmcgirt Check out vinyl-masterpiece(dot)com. All of the Reddings releases have been reissued by Sony as of 2010.

  • @philumber Thanks, just ordered "The Awakening" from cdnow. I had the lp

  • The bass on Tyrone Brunson's stuff sounds a lot like Dexter.

  • Otis III wrote the Smurf... may or may not be news to you.

  • still play may bas g. to it. cool beat......

  • F.U.N.K.Y Offspring of the great Otis Redding. Dexter Is funkin' it up on the Bass!

  • Somebody else picked up on Bell and James: Livin it up on Friday Night as the inspiration for Keith Sweat and Teddy Riley's song Just Got Paid by Johnny Kemp....I couldn't believe it til I played it!

  • good catch...big NYC club record...

  • I bet they didn't even know...You are the first one to catch this.

  • Now im 14 years old, Still listen to this music, now you see the left a hugh impression..XD

  • i was 12 years old i had this single on a 45 record lol

  • This cut got heavy airplay in the Los Angeles area on KUTE 102 fm radio. They played a few other cuts of the lp. This song is holding up quite well in my opinion.

  • I was 12? Maybe. Disco was easy to get to in Japan. Everynight in Roppongi. What an awesome groove

  • yeah you are right!!!!!!!!!!!!! this was one of my songs in the 80s...the chorus is the same as My Perogative! Teddy had him sing in that key...

  • I use to Love the Readings when I was in Junior High school.

  • I just heard this song for the first time in my car.

  • I saw the Redding at th kennedy center in DC the whole band was funky Dexter Otis Mark Locket singing was soulfull and the band was tight Johnnie Locket Percussion Wilfred Harrison Piano David Fairall Sax Ronald Pansuka Trumpet Louis Oxley Keyboards Darrel Yogi Dickerson Drums this band was tight...

  • Metal, Rock, Hardcore Punk, Hip-hop, R&B, its all good in my books

  • My Dad was in the navy and he said these boys were bumping this song in Va. Beach

  • I heard this in the Navy......I was stationed in San Diego,CA......in 1980,,,I was 18 at the time....damn,time flies by........ doesn't matter, this is still a hot jam......

  • I remember this cut

  • if anybody out there has "your the only one" from they're 'Class' album please post it

  • Uma das melhores dos anos 80. Grandes lembranças dos bailes nas casas dos amigos.

  • the pockets....come and go with me...same tune????????

  • Dexter is killing that StingRay bass! I still have the original vinyl album

  • Yeah, and don't forget that in this band is the greatest bass-player that was ever alive: Dexter Redding!

  • Remote Control was my favorite song when it was out. I couldnt get enough of it. I still remember all the words till this day. Their father would have been proud!

  • I was 15 1980, and I still love The Reddings. They visit Sweden once. I will never forget it!

    Funk rules!

  • I was 14 in 1980 and I remember this group too. I wonder what they are doing now.

  • My brother wrote this and produced this. I can't believe this. I've found it about 30 years. I can't wait to send to him. Thank goodness for You Tube.

  • I was 11...this was my joint

  • nice disco funk jam

  • I had almost forgotten about this jam: I was 15 years of age when this track hit the radio. Merci beaucoup!

  • That's the FUNK!!!

  • Damn this was the first 45 record I bought that shit was like $1.45 I was hella juiced I worn the groves out that record good post pimpy this songs brings me back.

  • Man I miss them, I was a young tween when this came out....about 13. dancin and mamas house parties, I loved this and "Hand Dance" I remember the "hand dance" and bringin down tha house..Thanks for postin this.. anyone know if theres a hand dance video to see?

  • The Reddings will always be my all time favorite group. I use to love this song. I was nine when this song came out and I recorded it on a cassette tape and played it to death. Reddings rule!

  • Whoa, haven't heard this in ages. Thanks for uploading this funky gem.

  • This sounded so much better than Otis Redding. "The Awakening" was a bass song revelation only poorly covered later on by Les Claypool whom I nevertheless had started to appreciate since I met him at an afterparty in the early 90's. Check out The Reddings'

    "You're the only one".

  • On my way back (on greyhound) from Arizona to seattle. I stayed in a motel in San francisco, south of market. Saw this group on the TV playing this song plus Aretha was plugging United together.

  • Great jam from the sons of the Big O! Does anyone have the song/video called

"I know you got another" from these same Reddings. I believe that this song was their first Number 1 or their debut song. I saw them on Soul Train.

  • Yeah, I was also looking for "I know you got another", that was my jam back in the day.

  • I've not heard this before but I love it,1980 to about 1986 was a fantastic time for this kind of music,in a way I'm glad it didn't become to commercialised because it would have been sugar coated and cheesy and bland.

  • which skating rink did you win the competition? I was SWHS class of '84.

  • I remember hearing this song on the radio back in 1980 and heading to the record store and buying The Awakening. I really think these guys should have been bigger. Thank you for posting this classic song.

  • this takes me back to jherri curls, parachute pants and breakdancing.

  • We used this as our basketball warm up song in high school. Great memories.

  • Omg lucky you!

We warm up to some crappy 90's techno..

  • I remember one of their very popular songs in the spring of 1982. I think it was called Don't Matter (I Just Give Up On You). I loved the bass line on that song. The last few seconds of the song used to set me off when the rhythm would switch to something a little faster with the cowbell. Such talent!

  • i know his 2 sons and doughter.his son goes to my gym and his wife lives near my grandma he rocks!!! this music is great!!!!

  • I played the heck out of this song back in the day..Too bad you dont hear this song on the old school radio stations. I wonder if the deejays even knew The Reddings.

  • Too cool

  • the redding out of GA. you guys should have made lots of money off this LP the best song off this LP is lady be my love song its time to do an oldies show!!! guys your music is the best YOUR FANS IN BALTIMORE,MARYLAND

  • Man, this use to be my songgggggggg!!!!!!!! Thanks so much.

  • very nice thx

  • Anyone ever see the video--or hear the song--"Call The Law" by these guys? It came out around 1987 and featured a bunch of cute little kids dressed up as Prince, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper and others. If anyone has this, PLEASE...post it! Haven't seen it since the '80's.

  • I looked for the same song myself, and wanted to hear it as I've never heard it but always dig to find R&B songs from the late 80s that hit the Top 40 (better yet, the Top 20..such as "Call the Law") to see if videos existed....I would love to find the MP3 to "Call the Law" as well.

  • See one of my recently posted clips right now!

  • Your welcome :)

  • The song My Prerogative sounds disturbingly close to this.

  • Damn, I was thinking the EXACT same thing! It sounds like Bobby lifted that melody/chorus almost note for note!!

  • Unfortunately I don't have the ability to make a comparing video for it, showing them back to back verse by verse.

  • Would you mind check this and the Bobby Brown song My Prerogative after each other, please?

Imo My... is very close to this.

  • i love this jam. i haven't heard it years. thanks for posting.
