I still think Obama handled himself with restraint and elegance. NEVER did you see any referencing anything that would be a cheapshot as was done to him directly, daily and with increasing viciousness and desparation as the election drew to a close.
a little lose dirt maybe, but no mud (I could do it tho--like:"John McCAIN CHEATED ON HIS WIFE - CAN YOU TRUST HIM NOT TO CHEAT YOU?")--I mean THAT IS how low-blow absurd it got, and NO, Obama NEVER went there,,but see? He might has well have, even a cool guy like you MISSED the crucial difference. Believe in the hope-maybe he will rise to it, you had it once..I know, elections are a bummer-but look back -in Jefferson's day they were vicious too!!!
obama inferred mccain was being racist several times. he also took many of things mccain said in his career out of context. both sides were full of lies. biden was way over the top...on so many levels, and he is part of obama's campaign.
Okayy..I am just gonna keep goin with this one, because the campaigns were just totally different animals. "Inferred", "implied", um yea, and there can be something to that, plus you have GOT to do SOMEthing, you cannot WUSS out, like Gore, Kerry and Dukakis did,--he struck the perfect balance..as far as Biden goes: BAD COP...yea, a litte off a times, but "BAD COP"--Sarah PALIN???!??!!!?!?!?!?!?
Yes I totally watched it, and I wouldn't really say you went EASY on her, I think you actually NAILED it...but my point was just her versus Joe Biden. Anyway, it's not all retread, and why does everyone not think THAT is change? It is--from the last 8 years, and I prefer to keep an open mind and give Obama the benefit of the doubt (yet w/eyes wide open), but then, i AM into the glass half full approach :) ..and asking questions, always--I'll be watching...great channel you got!
party. Reagan is considered "great" because he was a good enough actor to fool the majority of people. Obama is just a better actor than Mccain. That's all.
But, it's not that they talk down to people because that's not the entire reality.
It's the pseudo-tribal liguistics of the slogans they use to falsely connect with people that's the worst. There's an old real time with bill maher episode from 2004 that took place during the last election where they showed Obama talking to a middle aged black man, and he took on this urban accent while he spoke to him. I knew right there this guy had the acting ability to become the head of his...
I agree with the fact that it is very disappointing that both candidates have stuck so closely to their talking points as so many candidates have done in the pas. Especially when you consider that one is supposed to be 'The Maverick' and the other, 'The Face of Change'.
None of my business, but I think you're overlooking the inherent strength of unrehearsed vlogging, BabyImBored. Boring or not, I'd rather see and hear rough, unedited commentary than the usual canned, polished crap. Makes it easier by far to recognize authenticity (whether I agree or not), in my view.
What to do, what to do? Our 2 party system sucks, voting for the "third party" candidate will only increase the odds that your last choice gets elected. Battim, I am curious who you are voting for?
It's an interesting contrast between the American Two-Party System and the Multi-Party System we have on this side of the Atlantic. In America, an election seems to be a combination of policy and slander. Over here, it's very vague. You vote for someone in your local area, and the head of the party with the most votes become the leader of the country. And if people vote for the same party over and over, the head of the party stays in power, usually until their impeachment.
I know someone whose been a Clinton democrat who feels similar to the way you do about McCain. He thought he knew McCain and would have chose him over Gore in 2000 but then saw McCain in a new way and he doesn't like it.
I think running a presidential campaign for almost 2 years is like walking on a tight rope for almost 2 years. You're constantly trying to not say anything controversial, trying to appeal to this demographic and that demographic. What do the polls say, who am I gaining points with, what is the media reporting on,what does my campaign manager think I should say, what does my campaign manager think I shouldnt say etc. Hopefully after the election is over they will remember how to walk on solid ground.
There is only one cure for fascism and that is nationalism, where people identify themselves as citizen first and all else as second. As the people struggle for order and survival they will move in that direction.
The challenge of the future is what form that nationalism will take, agressive towards other nations or a type of isolationism that prefers to be uninvolved in most foreign affairs. It will be one or the other.
Bella, Not all political parties or governments are fascist. Fascism is a very specific political movement based on using socialist principles to build a strong nation state with minimal disruption to existing institutions. It is a reaction to Communism, which in it's pure form called for the eventual end of nation states and governments. While all political parties may be disgusting, worthless, priceless, or wonderful, only some are fascist.
Really? Name one political party that nominates and supports a person who is not a party member.
Party first is factionalism, aka fascism to me.(see Madison - Federalist papers)
I am hopeful that sometime in the (far?)future people will figure out the obvious and eliminate party members as being eligible to hold government offices, since their loyalty to other than their party will always and forever be questionable.
Factionalism and fascism are two entirely seperate things whether you want them to be or not. Factionalism is a state of being, and I can agree with you that with parties comes factionalism. Fascism is a political philosophy.
I see each political party as an organized group that demands loyalty to the party's political philosophy above all else and the commitment from members to help the party to gain absolute rule and dominance over a government in order to make their party's philosophy the law of the land.
Religions and philosophies are just bundled beliefs, and that is exactly what party platforms are. They claim their issues like sections of holy text.
They are not the nations issues, they belong to them.
To a large degree that is pretty accurate. However, it's only a problem when the party is completely devoted to gaining power. While that is a hallmark of the Democrats since formation, that is not always the case with the opposition party. And, some of the minor parties are far removed from that as a goal.
Platforms themselves aren't bad as they outline the basic policy positions that the candidate promises to follow. Without that then every campaign would be about nothing.
Even non-party men like Washington and Taylor ran on a platform.
I think it's much more worrisome when the party machinery has total control over the selection of candidates. You see that in the NE and MW, but in the South and West they truly have primaries where the voters get to decide.
2nd point. I'm surprised you saw either of these as outside the partisanship. McCain is Mr Partisan. It's just that rather than going with either party he always tries to force his own path. Obama, at first I saw him as a completely empty suit dressing up the great society in pretty rhetoric. Now I see him as an extreme ideologue hiding behind old failed policies to hide his intentions.
Well that's a good description of Obama. Second largest recipient of Freddie/Fanny lobbying money. Wants to redistribute wealth. Pretty much fits the bill.
First I do blame the public. It is our fault. We don't pay enough attention to vote responsibly. We have so many politicians that are just completely unworthy of being in office, yet they are returned again and agian. However, it's not just a political issue we succumb to the same foolishness everyday. Just as we sit around and complain about the crowd in Washington, yet send them back we complain about advertising, and still buy the crap they are pushing.
i find it interesting you don't mention the relationships each candidate has with their "corporations" (spec. RNC/DNC), especially after noting a clear difference between the primaries and the general.
a lot of people dont realize how corporate the inside of a campaign can be. when you're in business for yourself (and against literally everyone else), you have limitless flexibility. when you're working for a machine, dynamics change and compromises are made ..and often reflected in rhetoric.

Interesting video man! I gave you five stars However I think that if you take a hard look at Sarah Palin and what she has done in her state you will find HOPE!
Some of us have thought it out and... some of us have left the country. twas in the military when the war started and was against it then. Almost got booted for running my mouth about it. I saw the housing bubble coming too and thought I'd get out before all hell broke loose. I didn't quite account for the global effect. I'm in Japan right now, but when I finish my degree I'm thinking Australia. "The world is my country, all mankind my brethren, and to do good is my religion." T. Paine
Peoples are emailing you asking why your annoyed? We are looking at the end of our Republic, a sad time indeed. And what did you really expect from CFR members? The only two candidates that would have made a difference were the only two candidates that were not CFR members, Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich and they were completely shutout by the media, especially Ron Paul who received overwhelming popular grassroots support. The system is rigged to prevent anyone except establishment candidates.
Using fear, doom and gloom for a reason, the bailout occurred as quickly and as mysterious as the patriot act. As Gomer Pyle would say, " Surprise, surprise, surprise!"
Time allowed for thorough examination, let alone protest, was non-existent. Some Americans did call their representatives which only delayed the inevitable. Finally, Battim, life is not fair but such is life.
Its more than bad policy, its a banker takeover bill that gives dictatorial powers to Secretary of the Treasury. Don't blame the American people for its passing... They called Congress in record numbers opposing the "bailout" bill a thousand to one.
Both candidates are slaves to the machines of their respective parties. Instead of LEADING their parties, they are slaves to them. I agree with you completely; I am very disappointed in both of these candidates. In the end, whoever is elected, nothing will get done because neither has the leadership credentials to enact any of their proposed agenda.
Great video Battim. You'd make a much betterr president than either Obama or McCain, but I'm sure you already know that. Neither of them are new candidates either, they're simply the next in a line of dogmatized vessels, indoctrinated by their respective parties to hold the same polarized views; and I blame this for so many people being too afraid to acknowledge their own independence, and accept that there are no individual candidates who represent their views exactly.
I am frustrated too with the media, the candidates and the whole system! My son will be voting for the first time and we have had discussions about the things you are talking about. We had a better debate than all four of the candidates. We have such fantastic resources in this country. Maybe there needs to be a refresher course in basic civics/ethics 101 so the election and running of the country does not continue like a Hollywood tabloid event. It's 2AM ....good night
