This is a wonderful version - could hardly be better, but it shouldn't really be in the AMERICAN songbook! the lyrics were written by English composer Holt Marvell, in memory of Chinese/American actress Anna May Wong, after they seperated and he returned to England - where the song was part of a London revue.

But what the hell... melts the heart!

The American Version (I agree it is a British song) does not use the Verse, which takes away some of the intensity and the true meaning of the Song message.

I sing this version at Karaoke. This is the Americanized version. I'll forward the British/Euro version to you for comparison. Stewart however does this song justice along with the rest of the great American Song Album - not a clinker in the bunch. What do you expect from a Pro?
