  • what is this from?

  • Chris Rock has a killer Chris Rock impersonation.

  • Watch the movie "Talking funny". It's Louis CK, Ricky Gervais, Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock sitting and discussing comedy and their opinions and how their history of comedy has been. GREAT movie!!

  • @Maximumdistance Jerry Seinfeld, seriously?

  • @PwnerPwnz He's the dullest of the group, no questions about it, but just ignore him while watching if something. The rest of the three is freaking awesome.

  • Ricky G always pushing the boundaries and making us cringe, except the last Golden Globes - was expecting more.

  • high praise from Chris.

  • I'm swedish and I like both English comedy and American comedy, I don't care much for the Scottish and Welsh comedy (no offence just don't like it much) the English are "better" than the Scotts and the Welsh when it comes to comedy IMHO.

Ricky and Chris are both great.

  • im also american and i highly recommend (if you havent heard of it) An idiot Abroad, funny as hell and will make you rethink who the funniest man in England is....Karl Pilkington FTW!

  • a genius talking about a genius. Awesome!

  • I never liked him, at least he's honest, respect for that.

  • I never thought he was a great comedian for that very fact...and repeating himself constantly

  • Great comments Chris!

  • British comedy, if you can even call it that, is fucking shit. Fuck all you snaggle-toothed Brits and your unfunny comedy.

  • @METALGEARSOL1D Had a bad trip to Wal-mart ay ?

  • @METALGEARSOL1D Oh - you must want everything spelled out for you. Even then, you'll need a laught track to tell you when the jokes are. Americans are the reason we have to watch movies based on 70s TV series - lots of explosions, no plot!

  • Not a huge fan of Chris Rock's comedy, but the guy is awesome :P

    GO RICKY

  • This video should be titled, "Chris Rock On Ricky Gervais' Balls"

  • Chris Rock is a great observer of human life as is Ricky Gervais. Both come from different cultures and are very funny in their own unique way. I love them both for different reasons and I am English born.

  • Chris Rock is such a cool guy, and very honest.

  • @JaymoeSays - ps. they are both awesome comics

  • Respect to you Chris Rock

  • Chris, you are a mile above Gervais when it comes to comedy. You are the master.

  • I just gained 100% respect to chris now, im blown away

  • The English sense of humour is special, I'm familiar with the Scottish and Welsh humour/comedy also, but the English are hard to "beat". American humour is OK but I prefer the English sense/style of humour of Ricky Gervais.

And I say English. Not "British", because "British" means that the Scottish and Welsh are included, they have their very own distinctive humour which differs from that of the English, they deserve to be recognized as well.

Thought I'd point that out. (:

  • @knut761

I love the English humour. But have you ever seen south park??? If not you would be amazed

  • what interview is this I would like to see the full version

  • @mezlabor Thanks, eh?

  • Both are great. I like variety of expressions in humour as in many other things.

  • BE SECURE YOU ARE GREAT

  • @R0ckstar666x

    You're American, right?

  • @R0ckstar666x You just genrealized about the intellect OF AN ENTIRE FUCKING NATION and they are dumb???!!! Truly pathetic.

  • english people seem to know this comedy stuff, but I like american comedy also, both are good.

  • Gervais is bad ass!!!

  • Chris Rock is acting all humble. It`s kind of the unwritten code that comedians go by when they respect each other. I suspect there`s another video out there with Ricky Gervais saying how he admires Chris Rock`s energy. And the Talking Funny show proves it. Chris Rock comes up with one of the best oneliners ever. On youtube Talking Funny Sittin on Dock of Bay

    recommend it.

  • wow.....Chris Rock is actually very self aware. That's amazing! I love hearing someone talented talk about someone else and so genuinely admiring them.

  • @MyzzLee Well-said. They both have different styles and yet both manage to make me laugh.

  • Chris Rock made me happy many times with his stand up :)

    Legend !

  • 2 awesome comics.

  • Ha, love how honest Chris Rock is here, that guy's growing on me.

  • it's cool hearing skilled people talk about each other

  • @FatEnglishPrick your name is definitely deserved LOL

  • love both of them

  • Awww, Chris Rock. :)

  • Good point here by chris rock. When I watched Ricky Gervais' golden globes 2011 hosting, I noticed just how little he tried to push a joke. He always had a great fallback when the crowd didn't laugh at his (seemingly) first punchline, and his delivery was not over the top.

  • Love both of them.

  • The funny part is that Ricky Gervais was standing off-screen pointing a gun at him and a piece of paper for Chris to read.

  • Comment removed

  • Will you go to Heaven?

  • I am english and I don’t see why there must be a constant competition between our comedy (our english sense of humour) and the american comedy (their sense of humour) why? They reflect two different cultures. People would be better off enjoying the differences rather than argue over which one is best.

  • @Wallonische

Do people really do that? I find Russian comedy the funniest. Next would be those hilarious fukkers from Pakistan and Iran. Also, the Congo has to be one of the last tapped pools for comedic genius.

  • @Wallonische Yep i agree im american my self i love both forms of comedy. Though ricky gervais is my favorite comedian.

  • @Wallonische implying americans have culture haha..

  • @Wallonische yep yep, Chris Rock is funny, Ricky Gervais is funny, that should be it.

  • @Wallonische Agreed, besides one day we will have 1 universal language for 100% necessary reasons, and we will be on other planets, then we will bitch about comedy from mars, and comedy from people on the moon :D

  • @Wallonische They are both equal, just different, as is with any art form.

  • @Wallonische I agree... sincerely, an american :D

  • @Wallonische wish there was a love button.

  • @Wallonische Exactly. Different cultures laugh at different stuff. That's why I love the Out of England stuff way more than the English specials

  • @Wallonische exactly...cause it's no competition anyway, the english are superior

  • @Wallonische i didnt even know there was a class difference

  • @Wallonische totally agree. i'm an american who thinks ricky gervais is the man

  • @Wallonische Right. It isn't competition. I like attaining that certain level of understanding and when it happened, I found it gratifying.

  • what was this interview from?

  • there are great comics from both countries, ricky is funny but i still think larry david is the best....

  • @flashflashflash111 Larry David is a better writer IMO, but ricky gervais has better stand up.

  • @youngice6004 True and I do think Ricky's concepts for both sitcoms and that cartoon thing are really clever and original but I relate to Larry's stuff much, much more. So maybe there is no better. I laugh the most watching Larry's stuff (especially Curb ), I cringe the most watching Extras and The Office.. And then laugh later :-)

  • lovem both

  • Chris is in the sequel to the movie "2Days in Paris". Julie Delphy cast him as her love interest. I have lots of faith that Julie wrote their dialogue to have lots of dry, humorous banter. Looking forward to seeing that side of Chris.

  • It's irritating to see so many fucking idiots on this site bitching about who is better...Look, Chris rock is analyzing Ricky Gervais....TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT COMICS, Rock is in awe, in complete amazement on how brilliant one man can be and here you all are, still bitching. Grow up.

  • @cky1088 Chris Rock was the voice of a people though. His social commentary hits harder than Ricky Gervais'.

  • Fucking comedy right there! Love the TRUE Office.

  • @Tunainthebrine79 agreed, the americans just didnt hit the mark with their version, they cant do that subtle humour like the brits. Original Office series rocked.

  • Very strong analysis of both their comedy routines.

  • you'll never be as funny as ricky gervais, young chris.

  • @Soundgarden8497 I dont find Ricky Gervais funny, even in the slightest. Boring, dull, slobish. Infact its funny, because how Chris described himself is exactly how Ricky is, only on a quieter more subdued version. And Im from NZ so its not American bias here, and was brought up on the classics; Dads Army, Father Ted, Faulty Towers, Monthy Python, Blackadder etc.

Ricky Gervais is boring, but thats only my opinion. Im sure others find him hilarious, which is cool.

  • @organikness i honestly think ricky is a super narcissistic and grotesquely arrogant cunt, but despite that i still laugh at what he says. good for him

  • @Soundgarden8497 haha definitely. He can be funny sometimes but I guess his humour doesnt resonate with me. Each to their own though :)

  • Chris Rock is a much MUCH better comedian than Gervais. Not to say Gervais is bad anything, but Rock is a pro and Gervais is someone that gets to do it because of his TV shows

  • @puffykilled2pac

Hahaha, you've got to be joking right?

    Right?...

    It wasn't funny tho...

  • Chris Rock's stand-up is good but his movies suck dog balls.

  • chris rock sucks bad

  • very rarely do big time celebrities earn my respect in a matter of 36 seconds but i guess this such an occasion.

  • @guylaroche5 well said

  • there are actually two geniuses here who typed "low self of steam"

  • @marcsman229 now you're the third ;P

  • they are both funny

which is what makes this clip so interesting

they have different styles of comedy

    but they both work well

  • it was very brave of chris to admit that his lowbrow outbursts stem from insecurity and low self esteem; it's so common in american comics yet they all think its genuine

  • @MIS315 It's more than that, though. American comedy tends to be more musical than British comedy (which isn't a good or a bad thing), so jokes are more often punctuated in the United States with different kinds of emphasis (like screaming). It's kind of like, there's British comedy, which moves at its own pace, and then American comedy, which is a lot like boxing. You set up a joke and then you slam it down the audience's throat.

  • I only really caught on to Chris Rock and his stand up recently. I always knew who he was, but wasn't what you would call a fan. I did laugh out loud at some of his stand up. I have loved Ricky Gervais from the moment I first saw The Office about 5 or 6 years ago. Hearing Chris say this about Ricky, has made him go up several BIG notches in my book. Not that that matters... But just sayin...

  • Gervais only has to 'throw them away', because his audience is smart enough, and the material good enough, to allow for this. The louder, and more manic the comic, generally the weaker the material. Look at Robin Williams; all that energy and yet so seldom funny.

  • @funnygames1 You wouldn't say that if you've seen Robin Williams' stand-up. He has some classic bits. Even from his recent specials. His bit on the invention of golf is classic.

  • @tremontirocks Yeah, watch Robin Williams at the Met. He is a monster.

  • Chris Rock man...something about him makes me want to punch him...for a guy cutting people up with his comments and in your face n all this shit, his mimicry is fucking weird and insecure in interviews and the shit he sais from the top of his head, obviously trying to be funny and have some clever remark in conversations is just downright stupid and completely out of place many times...maeh

  • a low self of steam. The best misquote I have seen this week. I hope your first language isn't English.

  • so yelling your jokes means you have a low self of steam? hmm never thought of it that way.

  • @fattybergeson Dane Cook

  • @adamvandyke2 haha yeah. i just thought yelling your jokes was a way to make your jokes seem funnier because your so animated and upbeat, not because you have a low self of steam. my eyes have been opened lol.

  • This is from "Ricky Gervais : New Hero of Comedy"

  • What show is this from?

  • Gervais is a refreshing comic, it's so nice to have comedy shared with you instead of rammed down your throat. So yeah, I agree with Chris :)

  • I'm Ricky!

  • what a clown. Carrell and Gervais and good friends, and they set the whole thing up months in advance. Moron.

  • I agree with what chris rock says about confidence. It's very hard to pull off.

  • @forseliz - you ARE aware that was a joke right? this was a bit they did together - Steve Carrel didn't bring his Emmy to the show because he needed something to hold on to. It was a joke they did together.

  • since WHEN is ricky gervais humor subtle ??? i agreee hes a fantastic comedian ... but what he did in some times ... its just cruel ... i dont ofcource mean his goes at religion ... cos they are accurate ... well one example maybe could be that ricky just harressed steve carrel .... i think that was tyooooooo cruel

  • It is very subtle. More-so in Extras and the Office than his stand-up stuff.

  • @Forseliz

When did he harrass Steve Carrel?

  • that was planned...

  • well now i know

  • @Forseliz

you sir are a moron. if you didn't realize that Steve Carell was "in" on the joke, then how can we expect you to understand the concept of comedic subtlety? Did you really think Carell "just happened" to bring the Emmy with him from the previous year, and hid it under his seat???? That didn't lead to believe it was a planned thing? Dense.

  • well put ... anyways ... well i was wrong and i apologize for it ... are you happy ? sir ?

  • it was scripted stupid

  • how about we close the subject ... i think we all got the point ... just stop arguing ...

  • nice to see one respected comedian compliment another - Chris is great, Gervais is Fab

  • The guys' being honest!

  • love ricky gervais! there's something annoying about chris rock in this clip.

  • ricky gervais and chris rock are both genious's

  • I know Friends is a pile of shit.

    Gervais is a comedy genius.

  • Friends was formulaic for episode 1 and 10 seasons of predictability

worst sitcom that lasted 10 years

  • The early seasons were good but they gradually got worse. I think they had a change of writers or something.

  • Where is this interview from?

  • think it was channel 4s top 100 comedians

  • For those of you that have asked, this is from a show called "Ricky Gervais: New Hero of Comedy"

Its on youtube if you wanna watch it!! Theses also a sacha baron cohen one, which is funny!!

  • Daveabh, thank you!

  • LAUGH AT MY JOKES !

  • ya that was pretty classy thing to say

  • word

  • Chris rock really is a smart guy and, even if he doesn't think so, a master od his craft. I like him so much as a person

  • american and british styles of humour are very different. i'm glad theres both, no need to argue..

  • can anybody tell me what this clip is from, i'd love to watch more.

  • a channel four documentary about Ricky Gervaise. I cant remember the exact title but it could be somewhere on Y

  • Love Chris

    Love Ricky

  • the Brit comedy is much closer to story telling, Americans are not that patient on Comedy

  • Richard Pryor disagrees.

  • if there was a way to sum ricky's greatness, this was it

  • the whole UK vs. US argument is abit stale Id agree with you. I love both types, americans are better at the sitcom style, english are better at offbeat/droll humour. Neither one is better than the other theyre just different. The problems start happening when either side try imiate the others style (eg US office).

  • i don't know of any funny american sit coms so i would disagree that they are better at them.

  • Friends? One of the best sitcoms of all time? I'm English as well.

  • friends wasn't laugh out loud funny, especially compared to the likes of black adder or better yet the inbetweeners

  • It was to me and millions others ;). Black adder is good however the inbetweeners doesn't compare to either. No way!

  • you must be old

  • 21...

  • how can you not love the inbetweeners.?

there is no way friends is better than the inbetweeners

  • no friends is shit and not the slightest bit funny. you can see every joke coming a mile away

  • It's subjective.

    NEXT!

  • Next - ha ha ... very David Brent.

  • You're humiliating yourself. Friends is a funny sitcom? You don't know what real comedy is.

  • Friends IS a funny sitcom. It's hilarious and really well written. Ricky Gervais and Chris Rock are also hilarious.

  • Well, if you enjoy PC humor written by PC hollywood writers for a PC crowd then Friends maybe your cup of tea. Humor should push the limits. A cutting edge show like Gervais' Office crushes an unorginal show like Friends everytime. Just because a couple of pretty faces are spouting out cheeseball lines doesn't make it funny.

  • I feel lucky that I can enjoy cutting edge comedy as well as more mainstream comedy. Double the comedy for me. Yay!

  • 95 percent of mainstream network comedy is dogshit. Friends included. I'm sorry. I know friends is garbage and I won't be convinced otherwise

  • the inbetweeners rocks!!

  • he summed up why british comedy is pushing more boundaries than american comedy

  • They are my two favorite comedians and both have a different style of stand up that works for them.

  • I love anyone that gets Ricky G. And Chris Rock is the best ever! Karl Pilkington is funny. The podcasts are the worlds best.

  • Yeah I love Karl.....head like a fucking orange!

  • Damn he's smarter then I thought
