Never heard this version before (though I'm sure I would have watched the M&W Christmas show in '76 being of "that age"). White Plains version was - and always will be - one of my all time favourite songs, but this version is also very good. Glad I had the chance to see and hear it.
this is off a album i had when i was a kid has anybody got any idea what it was called? and is it still about because the other records was good and ive never heard them since bladesteve2007 thanks for sharing it with us :) :)
I think the fact that this song has been interpreted in two such diverse ways shows how good the song is and that variety truly is the spice of life. There's room for us all people.............
This is nice but it's shame the actual melody is just treated as a harmony rather than mixed up as in the White Plains version. Just a mix issue though...
I knew the original from the White Plains, sure is beautiful, this has quite another sound, still as beautiful, I love them both the same to be honest
so 10 points for the Nolans, and 10 for the White Plains :D
you are quite right,- we are all entitled to our opinions!, but I'm afraid that I am particularly anti "armchair critics"!!....so, if you are Paul McCartney I apologise,..but if, as I suspect, you have never written a song in your entire life,..yes, have your opinion , but do you really have the right call some-one else's efforts mediocre?!?! ....For myself, I always loved White Plains version of this song.
And I have no intention of getting into an argument with some stranger sitting at a keyboard either. What is music to one persons ears is indeed mediocre to others. I do, in fact have a life long musical background including performance and composition but not in the "pop" world Good day :)
Ok, whatever!....I think what really got me incensed enough to post a comment in the first place was that the contributor prior to your first comment was the composer of this song's daughter...and you follow up immediately with an insensitive comment about the song being mediocre!!....so I still think you are a twat,..and that is MY opinion. Good Day.
You are so right. Unfortunately, YouTube is full of people who "don't know music, but they know what they like" dismissing the work of talented songwriters as: "crap", "shite" etc.
this is from morcombe and wise show, late 70s and although the nolan sisters were/are considered very cheesy,i still remember this song years later, still as weird and haunting as it was then.thanks for posting(10)

Songs like this initially make me come over all Gene Hunt and want to stamp on peoples' toys... yet it's lovely... White Plains (the Flowerpot Men) wrote it I beleive. A sub genre classic...
What a 5 card trick they would make WOOOOOOOW.

Gorgeous! The pitches and harmonies are flawless, that's what produces the pure, silken sound of the Nolans.
(Morecambe and Wise or The Two Ronnies? I seem to remember Ronnie Barker saying in his inimitable way "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Nolan Sisters").
