  • just a question, the history of "heinz wolf" is real? but i don't know

  • he said at a gig once: the queens stone age stole this from kurt weil, were stealing it back :)

  • No one knows when or where the 8 people above had their sense of humour removed

  • great version, but I miss coked out of his mind josh speaking during the song

  • meeting neil in a few weeks , looking forward to it !

  • OMG this is the best Queens of the Stone Age ever!!!!

  • check out Andrew Balkwill - No One Knows

  • Neil Hannon is so wonderfully quirky he's more quirk than man.

He speaks so sincerely I believed him about the Heinz Wolff thing for a second.

  • As a guitarist, i really like this... its different but good different :)

  • @Mista117 as a guitarist? you made that sound really pompus, have you been a guitar for like 5 minutes?

  • @RcEdits No, 3 and a half years. that and i had to compare this to the original as part of my diploma...i only put as a guitarist because the original is a rock band therefore if i put what i put without it its just another person who knows nothing about music or orchestration. it wasnt meant to sound pompus, plus who uses the word pompus anymore...

  • @Mista117 lol pompus was the only word i could think of, i was just being a prick. anyway.... ive been a guitarit for about 8 years, theres nothing better on earth is there?

  • @Mista117 Nobody does. The word is 'pompous'. If it wasn't for me... :P

  • much more musically potent version than the original

  • I WANNA FRENCH KISS THAT GIRL SINGING WITH HIM

  • This is a wonderful cover, and gives what is already a fantastic song a huge amount of depth "Violin!"

Mosquito song with an orchestral vent would be amazing.

  • a really nice song. sounds like the doors covering a brecht-weill-song ... very nice

  • i know he was only joking but i bet Josh still wants to punch him in the nose.!

  • amazing! the haters are pure heavy rock fans..

  • In my opinion sucks a lot

  • Hmm...maybe a team up of The Divine Comedy and Queens of the Stone Age? Just a though.

  • I tried to find the original he mentions but just kept getting vids of cats on pogo sticks.

  • i love queens of the stone age and the divine comedy, this version is fabulouse!

  • ... I come undone.

  • Best version!

  • This song has the best violin solo ever!!!

  • that's really awesome! neil hannon is the most charming person in music

  • How 'bout some Tags so I know who the bloke is, hey?

  • wow

  • good cover! love the violin part. of course it's not as powerful as the original, but i'll take it as a very loving tribute

  • @AnimeAnimator12 If you mean the original Divine Comedy, I think you'll find it's actually by Dante Alighieri.

I like this a lot, back onto topic. violin and sax solo, thumbs up.

  • seeing them at somerset house in july. im massively happy.

  • That must have been one damn fine leaf.

  • I adore this. I thought it wouldn't work but it really does.

  • @rabbitwho yes it's wonderfull but the part with violin, banjo and piano is nothing compared to the original. The bassline by Oliveri is so catchy and powerful that it really ads something to the entire song ... QOTSA can be distinguished for their raw sound, this version is wonderful but it's not Rock, while the original it's a great rock tune as raw and powerful as a rock tune as to be.

  • @jiok84 Though I agree 100% with everything you said, I must point something. TDC is not a rock band and their music is not supposed to be rock. This is a cover, and I don't think it's supposed to sound powerful as the QOTSA version. It's a very funny version of a very good song just for the pleasure of singning a good song.

  • @waitressboy Funny? This ain't a joke...what a narrow head...

  • @jiok84 Holy shit really? I was afraid rock had changed in the last 5 minutes and went to wikipedia but now wit your comment i just realized it. THIS IS NOT ROCK!

    OMG thank you Captain Obvious!

  • @thehornypuppy You're welcome! XD

Anyway I wasn't supposed to give anyone lessons, just dropped by and shared my impression.

It's a free world I suppose so I'm free to express my opinion while you're free to joke around it.

My opinion was just: "It's not Rock, so I still prefer the original but I do appreciate this cover as well."

Cheers from Captain Obvious mate! (just don't take each word as a threat to your ideas)

  • @jiok84 please tell me you didnt just write that comment. you thinl people dont know this isnt queens of the stone age? do you know what the purpose of a cover is????

  • @jimzer Yes, I do know what's the purpose of a cover and this is truly a great one, as a matter of fact I just said that I prefer the original because of its sound. I don't remember saying this is bad, in fact it's actually an impressive rendition of the original, but I still prefer the one by QOTSA, that's all!

    Cheers and long live music!

  • That word in he says in his little introduction, "Sacrute" or something. I don't know how to spell it or what it means for that matter. Does anyone know?

  • theelwins...he is saying he listened to the song over his Chouxcroute(french) or saurkraute(german) and riesling(a white wine). It is basically a pickeled white cabbage popular in Germany and eastern France. Germans are often referred to as Krauts due to their love of this cabbage.

  • @Titiansurf thanks so much!

  • @theelwins Yes I do. I'm from Alsace in France and I clearly recognised this two words "Choucroute" Typical Disch from East of France and "Riesling" the wine you should drink with that meal.

  • He's trying to say Sauerkraut!

  • Both versions of this song sound good, at least to me

  • Comment removed

  • explain yourself!

  • My mate has this as his ringtone, the QotSA version, and its irritated me for years (yes, he's had it as his ringtone for years), so glad to hear this warm and beautiful version.

  • great great great!!

  • I thought this was morrison the first time i heard it... Awesome tune.

    Take Care.

    Love

    Louie

  • Incredible version. Simply brilliant !

Of course he's joking, Josh Homme made that song.

  • Neil has made me learn how to feel again.

  • Great musician and poet,

But he does talk a load of shit

  • wow such a gorgeous rendition...oh, how I love being a musician that can appreciate it all! :)

  • This is so wonderful, I wish I'd never heard the other version because now they play simultaneously in my head.

It was always one of those songs I liked in spite of it's horrible bass guitar and general warm cheese sound.

    This is just wonderful.

  • shite crowd

  • Very cool rendition. What's he talking about before they play the song though? Am I just not familiar with his sense of humour? I'm pretty positive Josh Homme and Mark Lanegan wrote the song...

  • Yeah, he's just joking around with that story. :)

  • I laughed...

I was at a Divine Comedy gig a while back and his amp was going a bit funny so while they had to fiddle around with it he started playing "Postman Pat, Postman Pat... Postman Pat had a black and white cat...".

He's lovely irl, according to my sister! She told him that I've always said when I have a song in my head the National Express always makes it disappear, to which he replied "Oh yes, just replace one crappy song with another!"

    I love Neilly. :)

  • that's what they want you to think! they are secretly avid Bavarian leaf collectors.

  • excellent cover. a job well done

  • nice interpretation... i listen to it every day since i heard it for the first time 10 days ago

  • Beautiful Irish man......I love you Neil.

  • @spikeirl fuck queens of the stone age? fuck you.

  • @cerpinvismund Thats pretty random, just saw the comment I was meant to have posted. Someone must have been using my login, I definitely didnt write that ! I'm a massive QOTSA fan, and I also love this version. Fuck whoever wrote that !!

  • OUTSTANDING!

  • Genioussss!!!!! Awsome man!!!

  • AWESOME !!!!!

  • i agree thanks for sending!!!!

  • your a moron

  • I take it back. I really like it. It's grown on me. Don't you mean 'You're a moron?'

  • amen.

  • Hey, I like this and I've only heard 2 Divine Comedy songs in my life---this is fun to listen to,though and it's pretty! Plus I like the lead singer's voices---I'm a sucker male singers with deep voices!

  • LMAO ! Excelent!

  • excelent o c*ar*alho !!! o gajo não sabe cantar********

Queens of the stone age rulam

  • although i've listened to this 30 times, i'm sprung with a compulsion to register my gratitude and awe

  • Oh my god i am literally cumming buckets

  • This is amazing, I don't know how anyone could really disagree with this? His voice really does a lot more for me than Josh Homme (as much as i love the QOTSA) and I love its folky element. More please!!

  • BTW, The DC are virtually unknown here in the States---I only found out about them from a free CD I bought along with a British music mag, then my sister had a CD compilation with a beautiful moody tuen called "Victoria Falls" on it, and I was hooked. Like "No One Knows", since I can play it on the piano!

  • DNW

  • It's interesting how well the song translates over. Took me aback somewhat. Good song, in both permutations.

  • I absolutely love this version, as do the QotSA version.

I think what i love about this version is you can individual pick out the notes where in heavy rock they are very clusted as 'power chords' I think its a fraction slower too. Oh come on it makes Banjos cool!

I mean im a massive fan of DC (come on bring out some new stuff though) and found QotSA via this cover. Weird that!

Oh and for the record, nothing is ever 'better' then the original.

  • hans wolf did the orignal m8 lol not queens of the stone age and he had a small orcestra i think its gr8 cover any way

  • Are you seriously talking out your ass modking?

  • ur joking right?? this is how music should be! better than my beloved qotsa anyday!

  • The doors were obviously a big influence on him.

  • NEIL HANNON,THE VOICE

  • I'm a big fan of QotSA, and I have to say, this was just amazing.

  • Just brilliant, 5 stars. wonderful version of it.

  • I love NH! its sounds great but the chorus bits are a bit of a mess.

  • Just perfect

  • this is pure class exellent

  • Genius.

  • I saw QotSA do this live and as great as it was I much prefer this version. Fantastic band. Love their stuff, always have!

  • I didn't quite like this o.O

I loved the idea, but.. this was just, a little boring.

  • Amazing stuff.

  • This song is on GH1

  • stupenda

  • awesome version, genius

  • Does anyone have a copy of this track they could email me, i have looked but i suck and cant find it :-(

  • It is to be seen in the "Live at the Palladium" DVD.

  • give me your mail, i have the track

  • This is a song by QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE from an album called SONGS FOR THE DEAF,it rocks...

  • what venue is it?

  • Took me a second to realize he was kidding about the heinz wolf cabaret writer originally writing the song.

  • great man brillant version

  • Genius! Love it, why didn;t anyone tell me about these guys sooner damn you all!?! :)

  • I am glad you found this. You will be pleased with the rest, I hope.

  • first albuns came from 20years ago like´CASANOVA´ trie to find it

  • This is better than the Queens of the Stoneage version, je pense.

  • Je pense que c'est vrais, Alannathegirl.

  • I totally agree :-) This versions rocks !

PS : By the way, I also like QOTSA

  • Who doesn't? 'Mazin'
