  • Fabulous layout, great work.

  • Wow ! You are into your 47s ! How many do you have?

  • Excellent layout. Great detail. You are fortunate to have a spare bedroom in which to house it. Could you tell me the size of the layout?

  • excellent detail !

  • did i see a class 86 in 2011 ?

  • i have the 31110 and it doesnt have the high intensity bright light on the front , did you fit it yourself of is it a diiferent model by a different make?

  • ever done a video, instead of photos??

  • wow this is fantastic!

  • Hey Mate, I was wondering where did you get the 47 at 0:45 and the 66 at 0:48 Thanks

  • cool video! 5 stars!

  • Comment removed

  • It'd look good with a big rubber lizard eating some of the people.

  • wow very nice, how did you get your track to look so weathered?? thanks

  • IS THERE GOING TO BE ANY MORE VIDS OF THE LAYOUT

  • Hi, Can someone plz explain to me the diference between 00 and HO gauges

  • @UrMumisNum6er1 - The difference between HO and OO is not so much gauge as scale. HO models are scaled to 3.5mm/1 foot (ratio of 1:87), while OO models are scaled to 4mm/1 foot (ratio 1:76.2). HO model would be 7/8 the size of a OO model of the same prototype, but they both run on 16.5mm gauge track.

  • The class 47's look like they have faces ^^) awsome layout 5*

  • @mongoosekid14. You don't like being wrong, do you? That kind of response is exactly what I would expect for an impertinent child like you. I've seen the responses you've put on other videos, and it is your inability to listen to those with experience that will stop you from being a great modeller.

Given that your little Hornby Somerset Belle model is in OO scale and all of Bachmann's accessories are actually scaled in HO - they're not to scale, they're a little to small for your model.

  • Hey great layout do the british police really use trains

  • @MrMegatino10 The loco modeled at 3:10 was painted in a mock police livery to promote a campaign against trespass and lineside vandalism. Back in the 1980s, they painted another one as a police train for an ad, where it was shown pulling over a passenger train for speeding.

  • @beeble2003 oh cool

  • Nice trains but the men are not in scale with these trains - Men should be a little smaller...

  • Thanks for the comments and visiting the video, the track workers you see are correct in scale, the locos are 1/76 scale and the figures purchased i:e the track workers are of the same scale 00 or 1/76, i even checked to make sure that they were not HO before purchase, i like to ensure things are correct, cheers

  • @dutch133 the scale ho is the same scale as oo mate is just a other word to use by the americans just to let you know :)

  • @mongoosekid14 HO is not the same scale as OO - OO is scaled at 1/76, HO is scaled at 1/87.

  • @HushJLee so why did i get a bachmann track side workers for my layout and it said on the box "OO/HO" on the side hmmm.

  • @mongoosekid14 because the scaling is so close as to not bother those who are not concerned by the difference. OO is 4mm to the foot, HO is 3.5mm to the foot. However, even at such a marginal difference it does mean that a person in OO scale can be 3mm taller than in HO.

Due to legacy issues, the track scale for OO is 3.5mm to the foot, however to incorporate the motors etc, the units needed to be scaled at 4mm to the foot. Any which way you look at it, the HO and OO scales are different.

  • @mongoosekid14 And given that you mention Bachmann, if you want confirmation - you only have to look at their UK website. You should perhaps read their beginner's guide (bachmann.co.uk/beginers.php) which explains the difference in scale between N, HOe, HO, OO, ON30, O, Gauge 1 and G scale.

  • @HushJLee and look who has NO videos, hmm strange, since you think that you know everything

  • @mongoosekid14 You don't like being wrong, do you? That kind of response is exactly what I would expect for an impertinent child like you. • @HushJLee hmmm no there the same size as my hornby people too! and i do listen to other modellers because i would not have the layout i have now which is BIGGER THAN BEFORE and more detailed soo yer DEVVO plus dont start arguing on a comment thats was not sent to you in the first place ok.

  • @mongoosekid14 I corrected your misinformation on the subject, very politely. You however, want to argue the point. You want to argue over scales that are defined within the industry. You want to claim they are the same - and argue with the manufacturers of the products who state that they are different. You don't listen at all. Again, you resort to insults. Oh, and the HO scale has nothing to do with America, it was created by the German manufacturer Bing and is the standard in most countries.

  • @HushJLee look really do i care nope so trot on mate! bye.

  • @mongoosekid14 If you didn't care, you wouldn't keep posting trying to make yourself feel that you are right, and I'm certainly not your mate.

  • @HushJLee did i say that you was my mate, naaaa duhhh

  • @mongoosekid14 Yes, you did... I'll quote so you don't have to scroll down: " so trot on mate" << see that four letter word there? But then, clearly you don't understand what you actually typed, and the insinuation both your comment and mine made.

Like I said though, if you really didn't care, you wouldn't keep posting trying to make yourself feel that you are right.

  • @HushJLee hahaha i love to see people get so pissed off that they even have to have a quote put in there comment pffff hah.

  • @mongoosekid14 I'm not the one that's upset, am I? After all, you are the one that keeps resorting to profanity and incredibly childish reprimands. Do you notice how you've moved away from the discussion about scale where you were wrong, to trying to belittle me on a personal level. Good luck with that, you really have nothing that you can use. And posting insults directly to my profile won't help you either.

  • @mongoosekid14 As for my having no videos - that doesn't stop the fact that I was modelling before you were born - and I listen to people. I do not feel the need to put a video onto YouTube right now - that has nothing to do with my knowledge.

As for the name calling, grow up. If the best you can do is resort to profanities when you are not getting your own way you won't get very far in life.

  • @burcmm Wrong...

  • hi superb layout can you tell me how you did the paved areas with track please

  • Hi Taz thanks for visiting my You Tube video/stills in answer to your questions, the 'paved' areas are made from 'Wills' plastic concrete sheets, they come in a pack of four, the plastic sheets are a sort of a yellow colour, i painted them grey and cut them to the shapes i needed, you can get these sheets from any decent model shop, dont forget they are made by 'Wills' cheers. Jon

  • Best layout I've ever seen. Everything - just a pleasure to see. Well done!

  • Excellent! Love the 47s especially. Reminded me of a cab ride I had between Basingstoke and Winchester in the early 80s :) [Thomas Telford]

  • Really nice pictures. Would be happy if mine was half as good as that! Change the music though

  • A tip for you. Make the screen wipers scribe an arc of clean window for more realism.

  • Very nice layout indeed. Starting to get ideas for my layout and your video has given me lots of inspiration. 10/10

  • Very impresive

  • Take it you don't like 37's then?

  • This layout is fantastic, and im only 0:47 seconds in, my layout is packed away at the moment, as i am moving house, but when i do finally get into my new house, i will be making it again, and modernising it like you, with diesel and electric trains, i have 1 steam, and a class 125 sprinter and a small diesel shunter, i am only using dc at the moemnt as dcc seems quite complicated for me as i am 15 but, yes, fantastic layout, hope to get mine to this standard some day.

  • Would have appreciated it a bit more if you didn't put that music on it, but yes - nice layout.

  • You seem to have a bent for class 47`s lol ,spent a few quid there! great modern image depot layout there well detailed.

  • with the class 31 my front set of wheels came off and how to i get it back on do i need to take the dcc decoder out of it n then put in in i dont know can you help

or do u think i should take it to my hobby shop

  • Fabulous detailing and weathering. What's with the porn music soundtrack, tho?

  • Had my headphones on - music frightened me to b@@%$y death!! lol. Nice layout tho 5*

  • great layout i cant believe the scabby english tabloid media think this is a nerdy hobby

  • @stufromdevon Its because they know nothing about modelling & the skills involved in doing it..This is a great layout & the weathering, as others have stated, is awesome! Let the British media chase after Cheryl Cole, Beckam & Posh........who's interested.

  • Great video with wonderful photography, but why do almost all model railway You Tube sites insist on playing totally irrelevant music. What's wrong with just railway sounds and let the video speak for itself?

  • @RTFishall mine dont have sound :P

  • Excellent john, well put together. Especially liked the weathering on the loco's and the "cameo" shots on your layout. I really must get working on my OO layout again this summer.......

    YJ :-))

    well done.

  • Great weathering

  • i <3 47s

  • absolutley fantastic layout, vid, and the picture quality is great and i love the ballasting what ballast did u use at the section at the beginning

  • Hi Philip, the ballasting was used using N gauge ballast, then airsprayed humbrol 'brown bess' the rail sides were hand painted in 'brown bess' then quickly wiped off, also the depot sleepers were painted in sections using gloss black, some areas are spray painted in a darker brown this gives the impression of oil deposits!! thanks for the comments, hope this helps!! Jon

  • Great layout. I just love those 47's. Any chance of a video in the future.

  • drunk man 1.49 nise layout

  • That its what model railroad called. Fantastic work I wish I could see it in person running. You don't see so good layout everyday.

Keep up with work and good luck.

    Regards

  • Mint layout . What size is it ?

  • Thabks for the comments!! layout dimentions are 10 x 3 x 2 feet station end then 6 x 4 under window then 8 x 2 along fiddle yard, basicly its a 'U' shape and runs against the bedroom walls!!

  • Brilliant, so realistic. What'

  • Amazing layout!!!!! It looks so real but it must be massive.

  • Brilliant layout and detailing and photography, but I have to turn the music off. Best, Rob.

  • were ya get the diesel powered virgin train from im hunting for it but cant get it

  • Hi, with regards to the Virgin diesel train, i asume you mean the class 47 (47843) all class 47's are made by Heljan, best place to source them are Ebay as they are not made anymore, Heljan released 2 Virgin liveried 47's.

    Regards. JON

  • that is some amazing detail great layout hopefully mine will be half as etailed

  • brilliant wish i had a layout like this mines on a bit of 8 foot by 8ft marine ply lol and its still a dc

  • you can still make a realistic layout with DC im still buying DC cuz there cheaper. if i was you cuz u sound like u have DC locos get a converter to change the track voltage so u can run DC and DCC but still nothing wrong with DC

  • Convincing....

  • wow you love your 47s

  • Echo that comment, pretty much every livery imaginable...I particularly like the Cotswold Rail model...excellent!

  • Loving the layout, really like that lived in feel that you have created, its hard to get that living look but you have done it well. Videos would be cool!

  • wouldn't mind to see moving footage of this!

  • i didnt see any class 37's are you not a fan of them ?

  • fantastic model. do you have any videos of it?

  • You seem like a big 47 fan! - quality stuff...

  • Fantastc model there mate

How did you get the white buffers on the 47 at the end??

  • Thanks for the comments, with regards to the white buffers, with the Heljan models comes a detailing pack, before fitting the buffers i simply painted the buffers in Silver Matt enamel paint!!
