I went there for the first time yesterday, and I thought it was too tomato-ey too... until I was told they put the cheese on first (directly on the dough), then pour the sauce on top. The cheese is just hidden.
Awesome slice... at first I thought, it's just OK, kinda like an upscale Elio's slice (frozen pizza brand); but after the 4th or 5th bite I was getting what the fuss was all about, and know I'm jonesing for one.
Sean I'm an Italian-American and have eaten more pizza then any man alive. next time you go pizza tasting for Sicilain pizza there is one place that is the best. It's called "Ozone Pizzeria" on 96th Street and Liberty Avenue in ozone Park, Queens. trust me and taste their Sicilian. It's better than L&B. They have been open for 45 years.
I'm originally from Bklyn and I'm 100% Italian. Their sauce tastes like American sauce (sugar added) I know Bklyn very well, and I do recommend DaVinci (65st&18Ave) and Pizza Wagon (86st&5Ave) They have great squares that tastes like real homemade Italian sauce!
haha... i appreciate your enthusiasm for pizza and would love you to join me on my next L&B run... i would still argue that circle and sicilian are both pizza the same way apples and oranges are both fruits....
Ive been going to L&B for yearrrsssss... and i would recommend that the next time you go, wait for a fresh pie right out of the oven...makes a world of difference, even though i would eat l&b square pie out of the gutter after a rain storm....
You bring up a good point that L&B may make the best square slices around. However, on your assertion that you can't compare square to round pies - sure you can. One comparison is that one is rectangular and the other is shaped like a circle. Both are pizza and I suppose, in general, I prefer Neopolitan (over Sicilian) but I consider myself fair and open minded.
If my open mind is blown by a square pie (or a Chicago style pizza) then I will rate it higher. All this being said, 4.25 out of 5 is a great overall rating. I strongly recommend going to L&B if you have never been and invite me along with you. I'd love to go back and get a more-fresh-from-the-oven pie than I had on October 13, 2008. Thanks for the comment, Darth.

You really can't compare teglia pizza with neo pizza, the only place that makes better teglia pizza is in rome.

It's not "The Spumoni Garden." It's called either "L&B" or "Spumoni Gardens."

My whole family is from Bensonhurst (after coming from Italy) and my whole family is split-- L&B or DaVinci's (18th ave)...
Personally, I'm a DaVinci's girl, and if you like mozzarella (muuts-a-dell) then DaVinci's is your pick.

Sean - you gave L&B 4.25 stars, however i remid you that this is a sicilian (square) pie, which you cant compare to round pies...(apples and oranges)
On that note.. I challenge you to find a better square slice anywhere....

@darthbrooklyn
That is easy, try DiFara's, their Sicilian slice is the best. Especially if you get it with Pepperoni, Green Peppers and Onions.

It's a great tomato pie, but for us cheese lovers it would be so much better with a lot of MOZZ on it!
