there used to be a time when Sesame Street had only government and public organizations as sponsors.. Commercialism has clearly penetrated PBS networks all over the world
Hey Hkfreak, When was the last time you saw the "GBH Orange Circle Logo" Bug that appears during kids programming during daytime, because it now has the ch 2 & 44 logo during those programs in the daytime hours, can you help me figure out when it switched to the ch 2 & 44 logos? and can you pick a date between December 25, 2008 and January 26, 2009? answer back as possible as soon, and 1 more thing, the "GBH Orange Circle Logo" still appears in commercials, promos, and Ids, allright? O.K Bye!
Hey hkfreak, sometime during the rest of this month, could you record post the closing credits of "Sid The Science Kid" before 12pm and "Martha Speaks" before 2pm, both on WGBH Channel 2, which features both closting credits, sponsers, PBS Kids Ids, "what's Coming up Next" Id: Underwater, couple of kids commercials and promos from WGBH Ch 2, and WGBH Ch 2 Kids Id, So can you be able to do it sometime this month, write back later today and find out, Thanks Very Much!
I have to say, these new credits are very contemperary, unique, and... kinda dull, even compared to the 1986 (I think) credits with the cookie monster holding the chalkboard.
From 1969 to 1998, it was 130 shows a year --except the second season, which had 145--bringing the total by fall 1998 to 3785. Then for a few years they cut it to 65 per year, then I think one time it was 40, and now for the past few years it's been 26.
If they had been able to stick to their old production schedule, they would have been almost at 5000 by now.
I think the main reason is the decrease in public funds. Sesame Street for most of its life has always been able to get by without grants from businesses, relying instead on the government and foundations. But now they go to people like McDonald's and Spaghetti-O's, perhaps to replace the Carnegie and Ford Foundations, which don't support them anymore. My guess is that it doesn't replace enough of the budget, and plus government support is probably way down.
IDEA, how about this, the government can (5 hours later) or it can... (2 days later) and then you can finish the $45.00 with an expensive Mojito. Maybe I should send this to the Treasury...
Y'know. I can picture a muppet warning a fellow muppet not to break something like a camera on Sesame Street. The word "Doink" doesn't seem to fit to the format of the show. I'll say "Doink!" is more outrageous. But only for this site.
So, they finally changed the credits. I noticed for over a decade since the 80s, the closing credits featured Barkley the dog. Then, for another decade, it was some kind of hip hop music combining animation and live action. And now, this version. Personally, I prefer the stuff from the 70s, but then again I was a kid back then. Thanks for posting. Be careful like the voice said towards the end, "NO MORE! You'll break the camera."

I mean, they feel like they should be fun to watch, but, for some reason, they aren't.
RABBIDGamfan 4 years ago
I have to say, those new credits are EXTREMELY dull. No buildup or climax or anything.
Considering that older versions used to be fun little experiences in and of themselves, this is a letdown.
Marbles471 4 years ago
I like the 2002-2007 version with Big Bird walking with through the park with the kids better.

whitesoxrule, we get it here in Detroit on WTVS.

I just watched this on last Tuesday (or Wednesday).
This closing sucks worse than the early 90s one.
vfreeck 4 years ago
Do they have this new ending in all PBS stations?
whitsoxrule 4 years ago
It would be episodes 4200 and on.
hkfreak 4 years ago
when did episode 4200 first run?
whitsoxrule 4 years ago
I dunno. Mid July-Late August this year.
hkfreak 4 years ago
It's 4135 and up, actually: They haven't gotten to 4200 yet.
AndrewT3660 4 years ago
Really? I thought they did 100 a season?
hkfreak 4 years ago
Not in nearly a decade: They produce only 26 shows a year now.
AndrewT3660 4 years ago
Wow...so what did they start with? Episode 2000?
hkfreak 4 years ago
From 1969 to 1998, it was 130 shows a year --except the second season, which had 145--bringing the total by fall 1998 to 3785. Then for a few years they cut it to 65 per year, then I think one time it was 40, and now for the past few years it's been 26.

Maybe not enough brain juice. And with the writers' strike, this sets the stage for the next episode to be produced in 30 years.

Just my guess, though.
Marbles471 4 years ago
Well, I'd prefer the idea of writers' block and strike than using metaphorical weapons to slash money.
hkfreak 4 years ago
Metaphorical weapons?
What are these weapons and who's using them?
Marbles471 4 years ago
The government with katanas.
hkfreak 4 years ago
LOL, don't give them any ideas.

I don't like it. I think it just doesn't have the right kind of tone. The colors seem harsh and abrasive. Overall it just seems kind of cold.

Please read the description to see how this got to so poor a quality.
