This song reminds me of when i visited Paris in August of '99. There was a big solar eclipse, and when i was walking to the park to view its fore-coming cast an eerie shadow on a body of water where some beautiful swans were recreating. Such beautiful poetry, and i always remember Paris when i hear it ; )
This is such a great song, unique in its sublime beauty. It has been covered also by Mary Hopkin and Kate Bush - both giving their own brilliant interpretations in different but equally mesmerising ways.
Love the movie If It's Tuesday This Must Be Belgium. Did not know he had recorded it himself had only heard Mary Hopkins (Donovan plays & sings on that one also) version.
This is in my opinion, the best version of this song, while the flute is nice, hearing it with just Donovan singing and guitar is very, very clean beautiful.
Please could someone tell me the name of the painting (and the artist) which appears 3rd in this video. I remember seeing it about 20 years ago but have forgotten everything about it.
you can't find anything about this song anywhere and it's such a master-work. any clever muso with the chords? i would sure love to play this song over & over for people.
Thanks so much for posting. Donovan performs this song in a coffee house-setting in the 60's movie "If it's Tuesday, this must be Belgium". Just finished watching the movie, and wanted to find it.

You and I have the same taste in art and music. It was nice to see some Grimshaw! Nice work.

Does anyone know who this song is about? It is a very fascinating story, and a beautiful song.

@gooseberrygarden
I'm guessing its about the myth of Leda and the Swan (who was Zeus in disguise)

I love Donovan's music, especially his slower songs, they go really well with medieval, preraphaelite and victorian scenes

Thanks. Any chance you'll post more from HMS Donovan? It's very hard to find (and expensive!)
