  • Great Clip. Glad i stumbled upon this. For those who think the audience looked bored they are not . Thats called ( CLASS ).

  • Everyone in the crowd looks bored shitless.

  • sounds similar to Kumbaya -- Good.

  • This is good!!!

  • IF PETE SEEGER STILL HAD THE PHYSICAL STRENGTH HE HAD IN THOSE DAYS, HE'D BE OCCUPYING WALL STREET WITH HIS BANJO!!!!!!!

    OCCUPY ALL CITIES!!

RESPECT TO PETE SEEGER, DEEPEST RESPECT!

  • Hottie alert on the right at 1:18 !

  • I love this, although the crowd seems lobotomized.

  • of course, no black people

  • AWESOME...gave me goosebumps.

  • Waoh! That was the time when I was a young student in Paris...

Although we were (slightly) scared of "the Bomb", we thought that the future would be better.

    Where are today's Pete Seegers?

  • I remember hearing "The Highwaymen's" version on the radio when I was little. It's kind of like "comfort food" for my soul.

  • The Aussies look so uncomfortable lol!

  • Please dont judge us Australians too harshly by the audiences response.

We tended to be very conservative then (and now) and not rush to the front with a "pick me" attitude. Pete's message is still current.

  • @TerryToon17 ---- I am an USA citizen.. I wish that we would act more conservative and respectful at concerts. Yes, some people act like fanatics. Three cheers to the audience. I am sure that they had a good time there. I would have.

  • I love this song so much.... I discovered this song on a PBS special and got hooked. I'd listen to this over and over again every day... :D

  • I've known Pete since the early 1970s when I would sail with him on the Clearwater. We would sail into Fulton Street Fish Market and do a concert from the deck of the ship. At the time - Pete was leading the effort the clean up the Hudson River.

Pete and I connected because II was using my dad's little fishing boat going up and rivers of New Jersey documenting fish kills and industrial pollution. Even had one large industry indicted by a Federal Grand Jury based on my water samples and photos.

  • good,good,good!!

    I was moved!!

  • What went wrong...............................

  • This is good music... pure, clean, and meaningful!!! Hallelujah!!

  • Absolutely AMAZING! His voice is terrific!! Who cares if the kids seem down or if he left his guitar on the ground... its the kids fault if they don't understand the song and thats his choice if he wants his guitar on the ground!! The meaning of this song is huge so instead of wasting your time pointing out other's mistakes why don't you just listen to the song and take in it's meaning and Pete Seeger's amazing voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great

  • great....but i find the kids seem a bit down...i swear I see one who looks like Lee oswald just mumbling the words....

  • Hallelujah, also for Pete :)

  • I don't think he should have left his guitar lying on the floor like that

  • This is humanity at its soul-stirring best. When he says "If you pardon me a moment, I had my

back turned to these good people fine people behind me

    makes Seeger beloved.

It shows how we all can truly find harmony when we

are free, inspired and love each other: no government,

church or fear to harbour discord.

  • There is a complete idiot the songs they do not like

  • this guy knows how to work the crowd.....awesome!!!

  • A classic from the past and a talented artist of our times.

  • Anybody writing about politics in the comment-section of this video should be hurled off a cliff.

  • The audience seems terrified at the beginning for some strange reason.

  • I like the guy in the beatnik beard and wearing the suit.

  • He looks a lot like Jim Reeves, i thought he was going to blast out some country song with that banjo

  • ...chills the body, but not the soul...true that.

  • The River Jordan is deep and wide, hallelujah!

milk and honey on the other side, hallelujah!

this song should be sung at every campfire! listening to this song makes me feel tranquel, and very serene, :)

  • LOVE IT!!! Thanks for posting!

  • God knows I am no fan of the American Regime.

I have suffered under its yoke 30 years, man and boy.

Still when we come to Music,we should put the rhetoric aside.

When the time comes ,Men of the Left,I will stand with you,as best I can.

Men of the right,God willing, I will kill you, your family,Shoot your Dog,and burn your house.

    So I pray.

Till then, lets enjoy the music,or move to something we do enjoy.

    YouTubes stream is very wide...

    There is something for everyone.

  • Damn, this is good!

  • Love ya, Pete!

  • @markse4444 Yeah, it is damn good. It still makes me angry and sad that Pete's country, which is also mine, blacklisted him. Well, all those politicians are gone now, and here is Pete, and us, and millions of younger people, here on "Tube.

  • Hello all,

I just discovered Pete Seeger through a PBS

special (wow, song, Seeger and PBS are all thematically naturally related aren't they?).

Anyhow I must say that this video clip from the

PBS broadcast is one of the most uplifting parts (equally powerful and meaningful is the

angelic song preceding this, "UNION MAID").

He was performing this at a time when unions and labour rights were reaching their zenith. Just goes to show that wealth/science does not equal progress or human rights.

  • These videos are awesome, thank you for uploading them.

  • your a pig

  • Taking instructions from a fascist will take some getting used to. Thought we did away with that when Joe McCarthy was not re-elected. A sad day for people like you. Dont watch these videos if it makes the voices in your head too loud

  • I guess the truth hurt you. So sad.

  • wow you are one sick puppy. kind of like what you have saved as your favorite, nice for someone almost 60. wish you well

  • This is the problem with America you claim to be a democracy yet people are scorned because of their colour, religion and ideology. I think you will find that at the Newport Folk festivals which Seeger was a massive part of it was mainly teenagers and young 20 somethings who liked to listen to music about a better world.

  • Sorry, but your history is suspect. No, It is just wrong. You should read American Passage, all about Immigration. Believe me. It DID NOT START WITH THE NEOCON'S BOOGEY-MAN TEDDY KENNEDY.

For God's sake, turn off Fox News and pay attention to facts, not the crap they and Rush and Hannity and Beck spew

  • @IrishandFolkmusic im an american and i must say i totally agree with you my friend

  • @IrishandFolkmusic Hipocracy sucks, but at least those who are scorned still get to be an active part of society and the democratic process if they so chose.

  • @dale1966gto I don´t know if all people from the US are like you or not, but after taking a look at YOUR favourites, and reading your comment, I am very proud to say I am your enemy.

  • wow, you must have been really hard done by somewhere, sometime-why not take to heart the words of the song instead of hating?

  • Tut- tut so bitter..........................

  • I couldn't agree with you more.

  • Just added this to my fav's,thanks so much for posting this.Pete is the greatest.

  • Classic, beautiful & full of hope. Thank you so much for posting this.

Your brother, friend & servant in Him by His grace alone.
