Actually, you're partly right, Smith's kick was blocked, but it did not end the game. The blocked kick sent the game into overtime, where rookie QB David Woodley drove the Dolphins to their 13th consecutive victory in the Orange Bowl against the Patriots without a loss. Ironically, the first, and I think the only time the Patriots ever won in the Orange Bowl was in the 1985 AFC Championship Game, which sent the Patriots to Super Bowl XX.

The game you're referring to was a regular season game late in 1982 in Foxboro, which was known as the "Snow Plow Game", in which Ron Meyer called on the snow plow driver to clear a path for John Smith's GW FG. The 1985 AFC Championship Game was played at the Orange Bowl. The Patriots had to win two road playoff games just to get to the title game, beating the Jets in the Meadowlands and the the Raiders in the L.A. Coliseum just to get to the title game.
