@YoungC2011, no the kick was blocked and Miami won in OT. The Patriots would miss the playoffs by one game. They wouldn't win in the Orange Bowl until the 1985 AFC Championship, snapping a string of 18 straight losses there.
I remember that night. I was just nine years old. I was watching the game with my dad. He cried that night upon hearing the news, I only saw him cry two other times - at his mother's and his father's funeral. I didn't really understand why he was so upset about John Lennon's death back then...a few years later after listening to John Lennon's music and learning about the person he was I got it. Howard Cosell was right, it was "an unspeakable tragedy."
@ADASINHO John never wanted violence, but peace. Sure, Chapman has stolen a great man from this world, but we will always remember John, and Chapman will always carry that guilt forever.
@MyEpicPhone Firstly this is the death of John Lennon, an artist and peace activist who sold millions upon millions of records, it's not Lady Gaga in a new dress, it's an icon for generations having just been killed, real news.
Secondly, Cosell is a legend who was fairly counter culture.
@yonpolite One of my teachers from high school refused to ever use the murderer's name, preventing him from achieving more of the fame he wanted, a practice I have adopted. Even when he was telling the class about the event on its 25th anniversary('cause a lot of the students didn't know much about it), he wouldn't say the name. That's what I recommend.
@yonpolite Actually Lennon was going to be a mass murderer ;/ he was going to use his popularity to command his troops for evil and destroy the world.
@yonpolite Don't hate him, John never wanted hate, forgive him. But it is true, he has stolen from us a great man, one who will always be in our hearts.
1. Get rid of the Caps Lock, it makes you look like a tool

There are people who have done much worse, and have been released from prison. The only reason Mark David Chapman is still in prison is because he killed a celebrity.
john lennon should have stayed here in the U.K. he would have lived to see his 75th birthday people may have bugged him here but, nobody would have killed him. the americans are trigger happy nutters.
@NlGGERSxEVERYWHERE Thomas Hamilton was some person possibly from the Mi6 who gunned down some scottish schoolchildren for political reasons thats who he was. your you tube user name is obscence, i know you would have to be American.

@avrilsprince lol ok this might sound crule but its like saying ill go shoot someone that you love in the back for no reason and just saying oh well everyone dies so i just shot your fuckin freind.

@kreeepyy ignorant pig posting a comment like that, you are forgetting the atrocities that took place on the 30th of January 1972 where 13 CIVILIANS were shot dead and a further 13 seriously injured at a civil rights march in Derry in Northern Ireland, how is this more sad, just because he was famous? please...
@kreeepyy He's been dead for over 30 years now. Yes, it's sad, but we've got over it now. I'm not saying we should all laugh about it. But sometimes a good joke is for fun.
@ToxicTurquoise454 That's the POV of society nowadays about everything. Nothing should be taken seriousely, so a country invades another for oil and all you see are retarded parodies on youtube. Sure, you can laugh all you want.
@de132 This shit wouldn't have happened if the killer wasn't a psychopath, not because of the book. Psychopaths use almost anything to justify the evil they carry out. Hell, the guy even used some of John's own songs to vindicate the horror of 1980.
@bmars75 I wasn't going to respond, since i was joking to begin with. However, obviously you missed the "inspiring" part. As in influencing others. Besides DUMBASS, everybody knows he was from Liverpool.
Actually, you're partly right, Smith's kick was blocked, but it did not end the game. The blocked kick sent the game into overtime, where rookie QB David Woodley drove the Dolphins to their 13th consecutive victory in the Orange Bowl against the Patriots without a loss. Ironically, the first, and I think the only time the Patriots ever won in the Orange Bowl was in the 1985 AFC Championship Game, which sent the Patriots to Super Bowl XX.
It was not. The game you're referring to was a regular season game late in 1982 in Foxboro, which was known as the "Snow Plow Game", in which Ron Meyer called on the snow plow driver to clear a path for John Smith's GW FG. The 1985 AFC Championship Game was played at the Orange Bowl. The Patriots had to win two road playoff games just to get to the title game, beating the Jets in the Meadowlands and the the Raiders in the L.A. Coliseum just to get to the title game.
@jlew92xx Lots of people. Patriots went 19 entire years without winning in Miami. 18 straight losses between November 1966 & January 1986. The Patriots had a chance to win at the end with a medium distance field goal. They would've tied the Dolphins in the standings in a race for the playoffs late in the season. He missed it, breaking the hearts of thousands. Retribution came 5 seasons later when they finally won there, broke the curse, & went to their first Super Bowl. 12/8/80 was a BRUTAL loss
@TheMonkeesRock Well, being as old as i am I really am not Uh; How should I say it? Hip to the music today? Anyway I did like some of the Grunge music that came out of Seattle, I liked a little bit of Guns and Roses but I didn't care for the hair bands of the eighties.
@MrTenitis Sorry man, a weak comment. I have a sneaking suspicion that we have basically the same music collection. I still have the 1st LP I ever bought. A Hard Day's Night soundtrack old-school vinyl that weighs about 5 pounds. I also still have all my Monkees, Grand Funk RR,etc. I'm not sure how I managed to hang onto all of it but I'm glad I did.
I remember watching this broadcast. Cosell actually announced it twice, if memory serves. First he announced that Lennon had been shot and taken to the hospital. My brother and I giggled because we figured Yoko had shot him in the butt or something; those two were such whackos. But then Cosell came back on a couple minutes later with the DOA announcement and it wasn't funny anymore.
@PopcornNigel I just wanted to correct myself. My brother tells me there was only this one announcement on MNF. He said we just have difficulty believing the DOA part at first.
Holy shit, it was my Dads 18th birthday on December 8th 1980 and my Dolphins were playing! Which means his Dolphins were playing! Which means he was probably watching the game when he heard it announced!
@YoungC2011, no the kick was blocked and Miami won in OT. The Patriots would miss the playoffs by one game. They wouldn't win in the Orange Bowl until the 1985 AFC Championship, snapping a string of 18 straight losses there.
