is that a plessy pdrm (82?), if so nothing short of a nuke will read on it if properely cal'd. a household ioniser (jml product in this case) was able to send my plessy nuts, tjhough nowt but spurious radio waves from its ht circuit were the cause. so what is it you are holding near it each time we see a reading? (not the uploader the cam man) scaremongering tripe! to the uploader: be responsible and take it down.
I'm not too sure why iodine tablets are relevent in this situation - the iodine isotopes have very short half-lives and aren't really applicable to a historic nuclear accident environment.I am wary of the PDRM82 having been "recently calibrated" - I do not think there is anyone out there offering this service, and the self-check service tests the equipment, it does not calibrate. This instrument is intentionally insensitive - I would want to see the same area surveyed by a proper counter.
First of all 0,6 cGr is something to worry about (0,6cGr/h equal to 60uSv /h but only for beta and gama radiation). Normal background radiation is from 40-120 nSv/h. So if the meter is correct, there is radiation 60000 times higher then normal. But there is one problem, those meters uses Cesium 137 isotope for calibration, the half life of the Cesium is 30 years. So the meter is not correct. But anyway the mistake of the meter is still smaller then 0.2 cGr. Why did you eaten an Iodine pill ?
Oo and @DidUAskMeFirst you americans are so full of yourselves, you think that you are so big and powerfull. So why are you building nuklear weapons if you have more trouble then benefits from them (only two nuclear bombs that we know were droped for "military" purposes, millions of them are just siting in warehouses waiting to be disassembled) You are like small children that are playing who has more. We are all living on the same planet, but you are acting like only americans do.
Actually the Plessey PDRM82 does have a radioactive source inside used for self calibration Im surprised you got any reading at all TBH with it being cold war technology developed to be distributed to the royal observer corps posts round the country, And well can you really take a reading seriously off this thing most are at least 20 years old and can be had brand new for 14 quid on ebay.
The warheads in Trident are British though. I'd forgotten about RAF Welford, I thought it was just conventional weapons stored there.
Going slightly off topic, it does seem a bit pointless having all these nukes, seeing as they're never going to be used by anyone in the world, who's got at least some sense.

@DidUAskMeFirst.. True America is a superpower by only having 10 times the nuclear weapons then anybody else..

Range is in 'cGy/h', (starting at 0.1 cGy/Hr - which is around 1mSv/Hr) - this monitor is designed to measure the high dose rates, you would get after a nuclear detonation, thus it won't show background as it is designed to measure medium to high levels, they are silent in operation. - making it ideal in a disaster or a war!
Wooow, I'm an expert in radioative material. This is very strange. Something is wrong with this pleace. It's better to avoid and stay out of this area.
Let's see: Your dose meter shows a maximum of .6 centigray.
.6 centigray equals = .6 Rad, Rem or Roentgen (all can be considered equivalent).
We need a 30 to 70 Roentgen from 6 to 12 hous of exposure to expect this health effects; none to slight incidence of transient headache and nausea; vomiting in up to 5 percent of personnel in upper part of dose range. Mild lymphocyte depression within 24 hours. Full recovery expected.
An almost identical base on Cape Cod in the USA is at the centre of an investigation into an unexplained cluster of rare cancers in the local community.
The role of Fylingdales on the North York Moors is set to be expanded under plans for President Bush's new "Star Wars" missile defence system.
A senior United States Air Force scientist has told the BBC he would not buy a house near Britain's biggest US radar base at Fylingdales in North Yorkshire because he fears its radiation could pose a serious health risk.
Dr Richard Albanese says he fears Phased Array Radiation from radars may have carcinogenic properties that science has yet to understand.
You're a freaking idiot... If there was any sort of radiation spill or accident there, then there would a higher reading then that... not to mention that the reading would just randomly change that often in that little area he walked.. And how are we to know that the meter had been calibrated... and who the hell happens to have this sort of equipment anyways.. Find a real issue and go with that, don't try making up BS to make yourself look good...
Carefully prepared procedures are not always followed in such emergencies. According to one account, panicking military personnel stampeded from the base. One American airman dashed out of the base to hail a taxi, telling the driver: "Go anywhere - just get away from here."
Five years later, a US warplane carrying a nuclear bomb caught fire and was "scorched and blistered", according to an official report.
The most serious nuclear accident was in 1956 at Lakenheath, when an American bomber skidded out of control into a store containing three nuclear weapons. Firefighters were ordered to ignore the four crewmen of the bomber and douse the flames engulfing the weapons.
An American newspaper which quoted a retired US general as saying it was possible that "a part of eastern England would have become a desert".

Exactly. I used to load B61 and B58's at Lakenheath, and people just don't understand that there's a precise sequence of events that must take place to get a nuclear yield. An inadvertant release, or accidental drop won't do it. Did it for years.
There's nothing more destructive inside a military installation than a malcontent military dependent being used by a Brit with an agenda! What does medication to test a functioning thyroid have to do with your point? It registers on the meter. Tell Knucklehead to get rid of the medication, properly! Radiation causes burns, nausea, vomiting! Nuclear warheads don't detonate upon crashes; they don't burn up and release a payload in a fuel fire. Trashes your well documented nuclear accident.
ok so what i am wondering is how when you retraced your steps the reading was all of a sudden .6? also what are you doing when you have us watching just the grass turn from yellowish green to dark green and we cant see the meter? i mean you changed te grass color bcause the camera didnt move from that spot. also why did it take you 30-31 seconds to get out of the car from the time u hit park to the time your feet touched ground what were you messing with? i could hear something.
I did not make the video gabely142 - so cannot comment. I hadn't really paid attention to the grass colour, but now you mention it, it is interesting how the reading differs over the different coloured patches of grass. maybe just a coincidence. does radiation kill grass ?
That is the automatic setting on the camera causing the changes. It's changing the exposure.
What was the meter set on. So you are picking up between .2 and .6. .2 to .6 of what. This is out of focus...you can't see how you set it. It's kind of silly, but do you understand that there are certain amounts of radiation that is normal no matter where you stand?

Still have plenty of American weapons here in Britain..
RAF Welford is the biggest american arms dump in Europe.
and in Faslane scotland and few other places arounf the UK, Trident missiles and warheads are kept which is American made and owned system..
we have to pay for them and maintain em, but if any classified parts inside need replacing they have to be sent back to los alamos to be fixed.

Dude, you are such a freak!
First off, Lakenheath isn't radio active....lol
Secondly, when you swung around, you showed your number plate! Real slick.
Third, it's clear to see that the radiated material you have used (which can clearly be seen entering your bag at 7:33) is from a smoke detector.
Nice try ass wipe, better luck next time!

That is an interesting comment KaraKurtis, however the meter thing he is using was actually showing a reading at 6.59 which is a point PRIOR to you saying that something was entered into the bag at 7.33.

Also, it does appear that the reading fluctuates quite a lot. Would it do that if it had a radioactive source strapped onto the meter ?
