@bamagtrdude with all due respect, what??! The band, along with trio, highlight his genius. Don't get me wrong, his acoustic sessions like the village are outstanding, but his live sets with the band and trio are something this generation can't see or get anywhere else

the song has no theme or special qualities, its just a dude (john mayer though.) strumming a guitar and singing.

i loved all his older stuff because he always set himself apart from the strum and yell crowd with his guitar, or with his voice

now i only 'like' his new stuff

hopefully he just has to arrange a better acoustic version.

I think youre being too defensive here man.... its just his opinion, and to be sincere I agree with him....for me the older stuff is full of natural inspiration, while this new stuff is full of hard work, knowledge of music (which he has a lot) and memories.... but I dont really see natural inspiration...again, this is my opinion, and neither I nor the other guy said anything about we writing songs better than him...or writing songs at all, for that matter =p...

@dookiebabii Verses are A and Asus and D6 (or possibly maj7, I'm at work with no guitar) with an F# in the bass... The bridge seems to be some version of an F#minor and a D...

@drdmento I think you mean the chorus...and yeah, there's D6/F#, D/F# and also Dmaj7/F# in the verses... the bridge is some version of F, C and G, then just F and G but I dont have a guitar right now to tell what are theses versions....

That's his signature guitar. He stopped using it, because it's chipping away at the pickguard (you can see it in this video) and he doesn't want to damage it further, so he uses an OM-28-JM to replace it. It'll eventually happen to all of his acoustic guitars..
