I had it done today. At first you are in so much pain but after a few hours you start to feel better. I have pain meds as well. I too started crying right when I woke up but that's just a side effect from the anesthesia. Good luck for who ever is getting it done!
Well im alive ^^ and awake but in pain after three panic attacks the anaesthetic was fine I woke up it felt like a minute had gone by I didn't get sick at all and I'm back at home :)
I need to get this done and this video nearly made me puke!! Does anyone else experience air blockage when the lay on one side for too long, and then when you turn over it blocks the other side?
Dear god! When the surgeon shoved that metal thing in the patients nose at the end, I was so horrified, my brain's natural response was to flail my arms around... haha
Uhh I have a question so I have had this thing in my nose for 8 years now and idk what it is it dosent hurt but it obtructs my breathing through my nose in one nostril and it can shift nostrils if I lay on one side for too long so I want to know do I have this thing?
@jakdarippa4327 Maybe. Have you ever broken your nose? If so, maybe your cartilage got knocked loose? I'm not a doctor (yet!), but that would make sense to me.
@SlaveToTheTheater I have never broken my nose and I have never injured it in any way. Just out of nowhere I woke up feeling kinda sick with a stuffy nose and a soar throat Then the soar throat went away but it seems like the stuffy nose is here to stay.
I had septoplasty done 1.5 years ago. Recently, I have to go to see doctors due to a recurring nasal congestion, especially my right nostril. The doctors are telling me that my septum is deviated to the right! However, prior to the surgery, my septum was deviated to the left. Plus, I have been having a weird sensation on my right nostril. Is this all normal or the surgery itself was an unsuccessful one? Thanks.
indeed i have a deviated septum and ive been suffering for a shifting clogged nose since i was a kid. My doctor told me to get a surgery like this at some point in the future since i still don't have the money, and in the mean time, he gave me medicines that would cure my nasal problems, it worked well, i can breathe properly. but last week, i finished them all and now my nasal problems are coming back. so i went here to see this and i dont think i can do this.
@bobscanfly Shut the fuck up, you chose to come here. I bet you even looked up this and commented on this just to get the top comment. Seriously. Who doesn't love watching gross videos every once in a while? Fuck off.
Just had this done yesterday. It took a little longer than the Doc expected but I hardly feel anything. The worst was the first hour after waking up. I can't even explain how that felt- not really painful so much as zombie-like(and so incredibly unpleasant I vowed to never go under again). I only take 1 vicodin every 12 hours not because I have pain but because I'm afraid if I don't take it I might feel pain. I have the plastic "guides" on either side of the septum and a mustache gauze.
@Searcheur Heh, all surgery is far more brutal than you'd expect when you actually see it done. A nose job, for instance. You'd think they gently shave off the bone with some kind of tool right? Just carefully going bzzzzz, bzzzzz until they've removed what they need? Forget it, they just put a chisel and a hammer on the bone and BONK! It's insane to see how much punishment a body can endure.
i h ad this surgery 9 days ago and boy is it uncomfortable. I sure as hell hope the end result is worth it cozz i'm about to run into a truck it's killin my sinuses so much..expect headaches, swollen nose, pain, no sleeping or eating, or loss of appetite..overall, im sure in 3 weeks i will feel much better but for 9 days after surgery, im still pretty hurtin..i have gel in my nose, not the plastic sutures that most have...the gel dissolves after 7-10 days and has jus started yesterday dissolving
@BrickDizz Strange. I just had it done Wednesday, with additional conchotomy to excise tissue from the nasal passages. I had the feeling you had for two or three days, because my nose was stuffed with packings and the pressure was horrible. And yeah, you get headaches, swellings, a lot of pain, loss of appetite and no sleep, but only for several days. Once the packings come out, you can start recovering. I'm in my 5th day after surgery, and apart from a clogged and runny nose, I'm just fine.
@elstormo I'm 15 and I just had this surgery done yesterday (well it was called functional septo rhinoplasty). I have a constant bloody nose. Was this normal for you? How is your nose now?
@xatchuzchaan Well, septoplasty isn't the same as rhinoplasty, but yeah, the nosebleeds are perfectly normal. Mine was packed for two days, so most of the blood came out through my tear ducts. Which was a funky sight.
It's been two months now, and my nose is mostly healed, but it's still clogged with thick pink slime, which will last for a while still. On the occasions that it's free, though, I can breathe wonderfully :)
@Stevea715 Basically, what happened was, they took out majorly big pieces of cartilage, which were causing the deviation, so the nose could be straight inside. After they made it straight inside, they put some cartilage back in to make the nose more sturdy, and less flimsy. See what I'm saying? I had this procedure done as well as had nasal polyps removed, and couldn't be happier with the results. I hope my input helped brEh.
I have to have this done, my septum is pushing on the left side of my nose. Will be put to sleep? I think I would puke seeing a screw driver stuck down my nose
@pitkin2323 Yes, they are. Depending on circumstances. Im getting it done on the NHS in november, and only one of my nostrils is blocked...so imagine you'd qualify.
I had mine done today about 5 hrs ago. I am in a minor headache but Dr. Told me to stay on top of my pain pills. Nothing scary at all please do not worry. Please take pain meds on schedule cause if you play catch up it will cause severe pain...though my nose is fully covered I can tell you this, I am breathing better than before already. Rule of thumb. PAIN PILLS ON SCHEDULE... All the best
I'm having this done along with a turbinate reduction in 4 weeks. Like everyone else, I'm terrified of the pain afterwards. Although, I'm looking forward to being able to breathe like a normal person for the first time in my life.
@blingbling098 I'm getting scared now... im getting this dont next friday... i just know this is going to hurt like crazy... i'm not looking forward to it. how did you find the days after the surgery, pain/buising wise?
@blingbling098 yeah, im now on day 4 post surgery... the surgeons said my nose was a mess. all over the place and they did alot of work to correct it. it took about 2 hours i think. but the pain has been something i've never experienced before. i know the side effects might be horrible, but just hang in their couse it is soooo worth it !!
i really hope you feel better and get well soon :)
I broke my nose one year ago and I got surgery to fix it. The surgery was terrible. My nose ended dripping down alot lower and it's huge. I went to a different doctor and he told me that I need this done. I wanna know do they do anything to fix the shape of the nose because I really want my nose fixed
I watched this video when I first found out I needed septoplasty and it haunted me for months. I had my surgery yesterday as well as cautery of the turbinates and sinus drainage. I re watched this and I can't believe that's what went on. If you get this surgery I recommend general anaesthesia. For some reason my neck and back are super stiff all day and my nose is still bleeding a lot. I had to stay overnight in the hospital too so who knows what went down while I was out cold. Tonight I'm slee
HOLY FUCK! I had my deviated septum fixed/polyps removed yesterday @ 3... is that what went on in my nose? GOD DAMN! I was under general anesthesia and was unconscious, I woke up and threw up a lot of blood (you swallow it during surgery), which was awful, but then you start feeling amazing. My nose doesn't hurt a bit, and I've changed the gauze under my face twice already after rinsing it out with sinus rinse. I'll post back in a few days about my recovery. DEFINITELY GET THIS DONE! ITS AWESOME
Just back home after getting this done this morning. I'd never had a general anaesthetic before so was a bit nervous. Don't be afraid of getting this done because I wish I'd gone years ago. My nose is a little tender and I think there's still some gunge up there but even now my breathing's a he'll of a lot better and I'm looking forward to a good sleep tonight. Well worth it.
@DickDivers you and me both! I had mine done yesterday... my deviated septum was bad from when I broke my nose 12 years ago, and I had polyps removed. I cant wait to sleep in my own bed tonight... do you have to flush your nose out 2x a day like I have to?
Very interesting though, I think I have a deviated septum on the left hand side. I can breath through it a little bit but nowhere near the right sides level
i had mine done on monday, its not too painful, the worst pain is getting the bungs that they put up your nose out, apart from that, it just feels like a blocked nose
@medic4eva Hey medic4eva. I've just recovered still a bit tired and stuff from the op. It just feels like i've got a massive cold. I have to breathe through my mouth because i have pads up my nose to stop the bleeding. It has not changed my voice or anything. I am completely the same as before... except my nose is so much better! Sorry about this being such a brief answer. Hope it answered your question :)
@medic4eva i had mine done on monday, and right now, my voisce sounds like someone is pinching my nose, but i suppose that once the "gunk" up my nose is gone, my voice will go back to normal
i have DNS hahha i had at one point random nosebleeds because if it. it stopped now thank god. I dont think i need this because it isnt as bad as this patients.
This is so helpful, I might have to get this done myself and it's just great to see how it's done, scared like crazy but not as much anymore :) Thanks for the video!
If you scared or worried about the healing process (throat pain, swelled nose, discomfort breathing, etc...) then i guess your situation is not that bad.
I had it done couple of weeks ago, and i'm so glad i did.
this is a classic "1 step back, 2 step forward" case.
Just had this done, my throat is Freakin killing me!!.....I can't breathe worth crap and its been 2 days I've had to breathe through my mouth...this blows!!!!
LOL, I chose to view this after I had it done. Regardless, I still have these DAMN nose splints in, and I get them out Wednesday. I sure hope it's worth it; I'm in utter hell right now. At least I got plenty of pain meds to tide me over :D
I had a septoplasty + bilateral turbinate reduction + adenoidectomy a week ago. My throat was killing me after the surgery, my nose had packing in it for the first night in hospital. The whole area is still swollen. Tomorrow it will be a week since I had it done and I'm getting the splints removed. I have a lot of mucus built up at the moment but a couple of days ago I felt so much air going through both nostrils it was amazing. Hopefully when everything is cleared up it will be close to perfect
it's just that it's really uncomfortable at night when u sleep couse there's basically no air coming in or out of your nose ... so ur throat would be really dry and ur tongue would be reallllllly rough ... like seriosly rough !! and ur nose will be bleeding the whole time .. but after they remove the packing u'll breath perfectly fine !!
I have problems with breathing. I can breathe thorugh one nostril fine, but then overtime, I start breathing through my other nostril and rinse and repeat. Does that have to do with my septum?
I had septoplasty surgery about month ago, but still my nose is not streight and it's asymmetric . Is that mean that surgery was unsuccessful, or I have to wait more time to see results?
@gkpd8805 i know how you feel, I need to make a the decision next week. How did your surgery go? Did it solve your problems?
My surgeon told me he would 'correct' the septum. He didn't say anything about partially removing it... Yikes, the procedure looks brutal, no wonder he didn't tell :S
Remember to see an allergist before attempting turbinate surgery. Those with nasal or sinus issues are recommended to try neilmed sinurinse for at least 3 months before an considering an operation. A complication called EMPTY NOSE SYNDROME MAY OCCUR AS A RESULT OF SURGERY!!
i am SOOO glad i just finished this surgery and didnt watch this beforehand. Got my splints removed. Super succesful. Recovery is actually not that bad. This video makes it look like it would be but its not. Feel great. Go get it done people, just dont watch this video before. Watch the splint removals, those are funny
@floydboy92 yeah they put the anaesthesia in through IV and you fall asleep and just wake up in recovery. Yeah your septum straightens, my nostrils evened out and it just overall feels like a you have more nose volume.

I broke my nose one year ago and I got surgery to fix it. The surgery was terrible. My nose ended dripping down alot lower and it's huge. I went to a different doctor and he told me that I need this done. I wanna know do they do anything to fix the shape of the nose because I really want my nose fixed
RSTNSHWKS09 6 months ago
I watched this video when I first found out I needed septoplasty and it haunted me for months. I had my surgery yesterday as well as cautery of the turbinates and sinus drainage. I re watched this and I can't believe that's what went on. If you get this surgery I recommend general anaesthesia. For some reason my neck and back are super stiff all day and my nose is still bleeding a lot. I had to stay overnight in the hospital too so who knows what went down while I was out cold. Tonight I'm slee

If you're getting this done, DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO, EXIT IT NOW. Pause the video, read my post below, and get it done, THEN watch it. TRUST.ME.

ITS AWESOME
NerdRageTruckers 6 months ago
Just back home after getting this done this morning. I'd never had a general anaesthetic before so was a bit nervous. Don't be afraid of getting this done because I wish I'd gone years ago. My nose is a little tender and I think there's still some gunge up there but even now my breathing's a he'll of a lot better and I'm looking forward to a good sleep tonight. Well worth it.
DickDivers 6 months ago
@DickDivers you and me both! I had mine done yesterday... my deviated septum was bad from when I broke my nose 12 years ago, and I had polyps removed. I cant wait to sleep in my own bed tonight... do you have to flush your nose out 2x a day like I have to?
NerdRageTruckers 6 months ago
@NerdRageTruckers No,they never said anything about flushing it.
DickDivers 6 months ago
@DickDivers Ah, I must have to do it because I had nasal polyps removed too.

Was fine up until the final manoeuvre...
Very interesting though, I think I have a deviated septum on the left hand side. I can breath through it a little bit but nowhere near the right sides level

@TheOfficialDoormen thank you and good luck :)
medic4eva 6 months ago
@medic4eva Hey medic4eva. I've just recovered still a bit tired and stuff from the op. It just feels like i've got a massive cold. I have to breathe through my mouth because i have pads up my nose to stop the bleeding. It has not changed my voice or anything. I am completely the same as before... except my nose is so much better! Sorry about this being such a brief answer. Hope it answered your question :)
TheOfficialDoormen 6 months ago
@medic4eva i had mine done on monday, and right now, my voisce sounds like someone is pinching my nose, but i suppose that once the "gunk" up my nose is gone, my voice will go back to normal

This little surgery is Epic.
If you scared or worried about the healing process (throat pain, swelled nose, discomfort breathing, etc...) then i guess your situation is not that bad.
I had it done couple of weeks ago, and i'm so glad i did.
this is a classic "1 step back, 2 step forward" case.

LOL, I chose to view this after I had it done. Regardless, I still have these DAMN nose splints in, and I get them out Wednesday. I sure hope it's worth it; I'm in utter hell right now. At least I got plenty of pain meds to tide me over :D

i have a deviated right septum and i am really considering this as I am having major issues with my breathing... how long does the recovery take?
LoveHatePlanet 7 months ago
I had a septoplasty + bilateral turbinate reduction + adenoidectomy a week ago. My throat was killing me after the surgery, my nose had packing in it for the first night in hospital. The whole area is still swollen. Tomorrow it will be a week since I had it done and I'm getting the splints removed. I have a lot of mucus built up at the moment but a couple of days ago I felt so much air going through both nostrils it was amazing. Hopefully when everything is cleared up it will be close to perfect

i did this too ...
my dad wanted me to stay awake couse he said the thing that makes u sleep isnt good... but THANK GOD the doctor talked him into it !!
blingbling098 8 months ago
@blingbling098 did it hurt?:l
Safura1601 8 months ago
@Safura1601
not at all ...
it's just that it's really uncomfortable at night when u sleep couse there's basically no air coming in or out of your nose ... so ur throat would be really dry and ur tongue would be reallllllly rough ... like seriosly rough !! and ur nose will be bleeding the whole time .. but after they remove the packing u'll breath perfectly fine !!
was it worth staying up 2 days ?? yes !!
blingbling098 8 months ago
@blingbling098 :owki. dayum but it looks so..rough the way they du it... the video kinda put me off..but i still want to get it dun.

I have problems with breathing. I can breathe thorugh one nostril fine, but then overtime, I start breathing through my other nostril and rinse and repeat. Does that have to do with my septum?
classicZOSO 8 months ago
Hello.

I regret watching this right before my surgery tomorrow immensely. Ignorance is totally bliss right now :/

Remember to see an allergist before attempting turbinate surgery. Those with nasal or sinus issues are recommended to try neilmed sinurinse for at least 3 months before an considering an operation. A complication called EMPTY NOSE SYNDROME MAY OCCUR AS A RESULT OF SURGERY!!
mightyPavan2010 9 months ago

@tuysty91 how was the pain did it hurt a lot did they use anastichia on you. Did your septum become straight?
floydboy92 9 months ago
@floydboy92 yeah they put the anaesthesia in through IV and you fall asleep and just wake up in recovery. Yeah your septum straightens, my nostrils evened out and it just overall feels like a you have more nose volume.
