Freedom, folks. I think too many have a shallow understanding of what our forefathers actually fought and died for. Of course, that's exactly what Big Government wants -- don't understand economics, don't understand freedom, forget history. The good news when it comes to the Internet though, is that it's such a complex animal, I know for a fact that they'll never be able to fully control it.
IP protection is driven by those who are afraid that their "idea" will be the only one they will ever come up with and feel a need to gouge everyone else.
If you are truly a creative soul you never worry about such trite matters as true artists are so far out in front of the herd that the next new idea is only a moment away.
Nice work Shelly. For everyone who says she didnt do a good job obviously isnt used to public speaking and answering questions off the cuff. It is difficult and I thought she held her composure quite well, of course she looks fantastic as always.
she is temid. By "up to speed" I ment being able to field and stand firm to the brow beating she would get from the "bombastic" zelots. The Judge was very soft with her and even taking her hand and leading her a number of times in this "safe place" interview. Don't get me wrong I like Shelly. I just see her, at this time, whilting in front of a Matthews. She has the facts but lacks the stones to push back aginst a "basterd" effectivily.
Nobody is asking her to go up AGAINST BASTARD pricks like Matthews, or other ZEALOTS. Shelly has the facts, and she uses them EFFECTIVELY. Shelly seems to be naturally soft spoken, yet I have no doubt that when her liberties are threatened she can "push back" as hard as is needed.
"When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt." - Henry J. Kaiser
The very notion of intellectual property is a logical fallacy. Ideas are intangible things and you can't own or control intangible things. Likewise, nobody can deprive you of your ideas by copying them. Copying an idea isn't piracy, it's competition. It's how the free market is supposed to work and it's how people are supposed to employ themselves. IP rights have destroyed the free market and small businesses by creating monopolies and making competition (a.k.a. 'piracy') a criminal offense.
The government issued laptop woudl come pre-loaded with programs and sites favorable to the government. May as well tell us what to think as well--oh, school
Its a cauch 22, protect us and then add regulations after they get their dick in it. Consider losing your freedom to speak out on youtube or blogs. We are going to lose our last out to speak freely.
Shelly goofed a bit on a primary issue. All she would have to do if her provider cut the hours, all you need to do is find a new host. Yeah it would be annoying and you would lose a few days but you would have spoken with your feet and wallet.
You would not at all have to go to the FCC and that would be a disaster anyway. Wait weeks, months and maybe years for them to do something? No thanks.
Whatever you run for or are pushed into running for you will forever have my vote. I know you will resist but your "clout" is growing exponentially - you make think it sad to say it is just a matter of time but why bother with a congressional seat - go for the top (Ms. Statue of Liberty ! ! ! ; ) )
"Vote with your wallet"? What kind of world do you really think we live in? Do you really think we live in a true free market? The number of available ISPs is certainly not endless.
Thanks Shelly, Your awesome. The federal government wants to destroy the peoples ability to communicate. You will not be able to use the Internet to criticize the government, organize or to try to protect yourself from its evil. Love your smile, Shelly. Jim
I agree with Napolitano that Shelly is always a pleasure. ;)
Perhaps your right that the big-government crowd is pushing for regulation and such but in my personal view the biggest threat comes from the sanitors. There might be some overlap. By sanitors I mean the people who want to sanitize the web of everything bad and illegal and want to start censoring.
Funny, I can use my unlimited access internet on my AT&T 3G phone.... maybe the problem is the contract with iPhone. My provider allows me to do whatever I want with the bandwidth I buy.
It was inevitable. I'm surprised they let it go this long. Regulating the internet is an obvious strategic necessity for the government/corporations. Successful prosecution of their agenda e.g. consumerism, commercialism, wars, war on terror, global warming, vaccines, destruction of individual rights and freedoms etc. hinges on their control of information and ideas. The only place you've been able to challenge their agenda freely without interference until now has been the internet.

Regulations are only for child-like people, needy of being told what is good for them, needy of protection... for a protection fee of course

All right, who invited all the regulators? We were doing fine organizing people to vote with their wallets and it wouldn't have cost us a dime.

You can't regulate the "free market", you can regulate the market and once you do that you have no free market.
Free market does not mean little regulation, it means NO regulation.

god damn socialists won't be happy until the world is bogged down in some sort of maoist nightmare where nothing works properly.
I couldn't think of anything worse than Government provided Internet, they're going to totally ruin the internet as we know and love it.
