Definitive answer to those who think Momus has lost it. (And I admit I was wavering at the beginning of the Thunderclown ep.) This may be one of his best songs.
All the classic Momus elements : gorgeous melody, smart lyrics, a collision of esoteric references and pop trivia, comic silliness that becomes profound. I'm howling in both laughter and despair when he starts singing "Keep Calm and Carry On". Plus brilliant choice of film clip to go with it.
oh the thunder clown! oh the dying sun! Oh unadulterated wretchedness! And sitting still. How greek gods grow old and die! How strange loops go up and down, how they do not move! How it grounds me and now I must run fast. Not going anywhere, but watching.
This sounds so deep and so heartfelt from you, Mr Momus. Reminds me directly as an updated version from 'The Posion Boyfriend' era. I completely love it.
@faunflynn The "dying pig" is actually Preacher Harry Powell in Night of the Hunter. You see him opening his mouth to make this sound earlier in the video, but the sound doesn't appear until later, as if flying very slowly through the sequence. Search on YouTube for Robert Mitchum - The Night of the Hunter - River Boat Scene. The original song there is really gorgeous too.
Perfect.

Wow, Momus + "Night of the Hunter". It can be shown mathematically that this is one of the greatest things ever.

Great film, like the original Cape Fear. Thanks for posting the new tracks. This one is my favourite. Excellent.
