You can say you hate your mothers all you want, but me, I love her to death. You never add up all the things she has given you. You never realize how much she gives up to raise you, especially to see you succeed in life. Thats her goal. And I'm gonna make sure I make her proud. Never say you hate her, you never know, she could be gone tomorrow. That's why I care so much about mine. My grandma was hit by a car, and killed suddenly, so that changed my perspective in life.
I commented on this tune years ago. Suffice it to say, you just can't get more Gold Standard "Country" than Melba Montgomery singing "No Charge!" It defies analysis and simply reaches into your chest and takes hold of your heart! Amazing and wonderful!
@nickwalco i can't believe u would say ur mom owed u money whenever my mom asks me if she can borrow money i tell her no she is my mother and i refuse to make her or let her pay me back i always tell her she can only have it if she doesn't try to pay it back but she does the same with my grammy i've always had a very high respect for my mother maybe its cause she almost died having me and yet there was still no charge to me i love my mom more than words could ever express
@NinaRCote well she did, she promised me if I cleaned up her closet i'd get paid. take in ind I NEVER got an allowance I got EXACT money for lunch, so I the only tie I could have saved was when I STARVED myself. did I hate her no.
Wonderful!! Ain't this the truth...altho' I'd say the love & sacrifices of a devoted mother to her youngs & even up to when they become adults in life could never be measured by any wealth in the world. And the rewards are endless even if they don't give anything in return as long as they turn up healthy, productive and righteous and most especially God-fearing. ## galonggong###
the kid just wants to make some money mennn! nothing wrong wid that. these same mums will be taking all their sons money when he is older. they wount mention 9 months then would they.
gosh...Im now at the age of 43, and tears still roll down my face every single time I hear this song,My Mom's been in Heaven for 14 years now( I know She has!!!) She was my Mom on this earth for 29 years and the Grandma to my daughter for only 7 when God called her to serve Him in His Eternal Kingdom. She was happy to answer his call, but FOREVER in our hearts and minds, SHE will be OUR MOM and Grandmother to all the Lil Ones born after She left us.Miss You a lot still MOM,this Song is for You!
I have 5 children 17 to 4 and this song touches my heart everytime I hear it! Makes me realize ALL I've done for them that they just take for granted! Some day when they are older, they will look back with more wisdom and realize all the sacrifices mom's make!
This is so true. This song touched my heart. It brings tears to your eyes and warms my heart.. To the ones that didn't understand this song must not have children!
My mom had me listen to this when I was a little girl, and I thought she was nuts. Now I am 32 and a mother to a 6 year old little boy who thinks video games grow on trees. I now see where my mom was going with this song....Once again, she was right.
the voice is real country and it cut deep into my heart each time i hear it - it touches me that makes me so disgraceful when i was younger and mean and demanding that everything in this world is free. i have wanted so much to say to all the people in this world that i have taken for granted to appologise especially mum, dad, brothers and sister - 19F Jln SongSong
He didn't ask to be born, so all of those things she did for him, she did for herself, and the passing on of her genepool. Pay the boy his money you cheapscape!!! How's he ever going to develope a heathy work-ethic!!!
@inappropriategiggle because of this way of thinking is why we have kids in their adult years expecting their parents to pay for everything they think we owe it to them and yes they didn't ask to be born but they need to relize they don't need paid for everything they do in life especially if it is their messes or problems
If you listen real close you can hear Melba's voice break a little. After many, many times of trying to get this side done this was the best recording of them all. There is a version of this posted on YouTube taken from the Homecoming series that shows Jean Shepard wiping tears away from her eyes. After all these years Melba still gets emotional doing this song. This is a perfect example of the power of the lyrics of a song and the right person performing it from the heart.

Melba hit #39 in Billboard, 6-8-74. Should've gone much higher than that on the pop chart. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

Wonder where Melba is from? Not many people know that words like "store" and "cents" are two-syllable words!
