I commented on this tune years ago.  Suffice it to say, you just can't get more Gold Standard "Country" than Melba Montgomery singing "No Charge!" It defies analysis and simply reaches into your chest and takes hold of your heart! Amazing and wonderful!

@nickwalco i can't believe u would say ur mom owed u money whenever my mom asks me if she can borrow money i tell her no she is my mother and i refuse to make her or let her pay me back i always tell her she can only have it if she doesn't try to pay it back but she does the same with my grammy i've always had a very high respect for my mother maybe its cause she almost died having me and yet there was still no charge to me i love my mom more than words could ever express

gosh...Im now at the age of 43, and tears still roll down my face every single time I hear this song,My Mom's been in Heaven for 14 years now( I know She has!!!) She was my Mom on this earth for 29 years and the Grandma to my daughter for only 7 when God called her to serve Him in His Eternal Kingdom. If you listen real close you can hear Melba's voice break a little. After many, many times of trying to get this side done this was the best recording of them all. There is a version of this posted on YouTube taken from the Homecoming series that shows Jean Shepard wiping tears away from her eyes. After all these years Melba still gets emotional doing this song. This is a perfect example of the power of the lyrics of a song and the right person performing it from the heart.
