Josh is insanely creative. He lays down incredibly innovative shifting rhythms that go perfectly with the melody to create a visual/emotional soundscape. And he knows that the silence in between is just as important as the drumming.
So glad Josh is back. Pennie was not right for Coheed. A great drummer in his own right but I feel that the band's creativity suffered with Pennie in the band. Welcome Home Josh!!!
@rollergoalie16 screw that, Pennie was a fucking AWESOME drummer. For Coheed or for anyone, Coheed grew so much because of him, and I will never say anything negative about him. That being said. Josh will always be the Co&Ca drummer in my head.
That's so stupid though, "i refuse to use double bass pedals" that's stupid I mean why the heck would you refuse to use something that undeniably will make you more independent, and will make your playing(his specifically, and everyone else's) more interesting an complex. Don't even tell me complex isn't why he's going for because he does play some cool grooves, but to go past a personal preference and just refuses to use one. That's just stupid.
@beatsrus01 have you listened to the dude's bass beats? he doesn't need one. coheed would sound weird with blast beats, and while double pedals definitely increase the amount of things you can do, i don't think he needs one for the style that he employs. it's just like having a shitload of pedals increases the amount of tonal variety you can produce with your guitar, but if you're playing, say, blues, you won't need most of them.
@beatsrus01 Why would he need one when he can do single stroke rolls with his foot? Keep in mind the style of music. He's not a tech death metal drummer refusing to use one. If there were double kick patterns all over this music, it would seem distasteful. Drumming can only be as independent and creative as the drummer. I've seen Benny Greb do more entertaining and creative things on a 3 piece toy Spongebob kit than Mike Portnoy has done on his huge wrap around beast of a kit
@graemebdj They both are outstanding drummers in their own uniqe way but josh always seemed to fit in and be so passionit playing with Coheed, i mean just look at their music videos together, blood red summer is one of them that is funny what they put together, then watch them play in Welcome home, it's just so amazingly together. I feel Chris pennie should be in a harder rock band it just seems like Coheed isn't his place. But check weerd science, josh is spectacular, glad he cleaned up.
I very much LOVE Josh's drum style. It's very unique and a crucial part to Coheed's original sound in my opinion. However, I really like Taylor's playing on Volume 2 and I really like Chris' playing on Black Rainbow... Though I do not like that the drums on those two albums aren't mixed in drummer perspective.
@mjrupps I got that from Josh's website but when I double checked it it said he sometimes uses a 9x12 which I'm guessing is the case here because you're right that is really low. Or maybe Josh is just a wizard and can work magic with his drums. Who knows....
@mjrupps Since you replied to both I guess I will just reply to this one and cover both haha. Bill Cardwell is the founder of C&C. I asked him what sizes Josh played on the 3rd album. He told me the exact sizes I told you. As well as the snares and head set ups he was using. Hope this is as helpful as it was to me when I first found out.
@vanhalen021 What a sick connection. I do know of Ghostnote. Good shit, man. Does he know what equipment Josh used for other albums? I'm only asking because I basically idolize the guy.
@mjrupps I know he used the same set up on the 2nd album, it just sounds so much different than the 3rd because they eq'ed the shit out of the 3rd album. 4 different snares: rebuilt 60s marching snare, 6x14 10 ply, 5.5x14 single ply and rebuilt tama chrome over brass. Heads were pinstripes or coated emps over ambs with no other muffling. As for the deepness he said it's all Josh. He just has a crazy ear and does the tuning himself, not the sound guys.
@vanhalen021 I listen to everything from all decades/eras & genres. He's my favorite drummer ever. I knew he's always done his own tuning & muffling & stuff, but I never liked how he didn't stay true to his equipment, switching between those rack toms & all those snares, along with constantly switching up his cymbals. All that goes especially for the transition from the first album to the next 2.
@mjrupps Yea I am the same way with listening to everything and really liking Josh. He plays out of the pocket so well and has groove for days. As for switching up, I personally don't have a big problem with it. I can see how it would be frustrating for someone to match the sound spot on but it isn't that much different than guitarists using different effects or guitars on different songs, it's just drummers don't do it very often.
@vanhalen021 He does so much with so little leeway & especially equipment. You have a good point with the switching up, but I've always just personally liked it more when guys used the same equipment but switched up the way they use it. It's so rare when you really think about it, though.
Josh is definitely one of my favorite drummers and kicks Chris any day. Old Coheed is also way better than the new stuff. After Apollo I it just started to go downhill although Apollo II is alright.
@MrStockholmz He plays for Terrible Things. Not nearly as innovative as Coheed, it's kind of just boring in comparison, but you can check them out just find their MySpace. He also was playing in a band called Mours for bit (again find the MySpace) but I dunno if anything ever came of that.
LOL.....If you like Eppard more than Pennie thats totally your opinon, But saying he is better technically over Chris makes you know nothing about drums. will always love this! and love the shit out of Applehead Studio! Looking forward to hearing the new The Sleeping and 3 albums that were recorded there
They're two totally different drummers. Both amazing. Cut Chris some slack on Neverender. He had to learn EVERY song in the Coheed catalog all at once...
@OfficialAtramental I'm not jumping to any conclusion nor do I actually know, but take an objective look at what happened: C&C got different producers for NWFT when Mic and Josh left, Mic consequentially came back but I think Josh and C&C have moved on from each other. I do know the studio in this video (Applehead Studios in Woodstock) was built and owned by Josh's dad, Jimmy and C&C no longer records there -- I don't think that's surprising.
@OfficialAtramental Also unfortunately Josh's brother Joey and his band, 3 (you *MUST* listen to them if you haven't before, search for "Bramfatura" on Youtube and go from there) are no longer regular touring partners & that is kind of hurting their exposure... stems from Josh's departure. However, Mic and Josh still jam...with Joey, as well. There are videos on Youtube of that too.
i have no idea if NWFT and YOBR would still be as far behind the first 3 albums if josh was still there but since thats the biggest difference im going to blame it on chris pennie. even tho i do like a lot of his drumming on YOBR
@thisdayjustbelongedt you're going to blame it on Chris Pennie? come on. he's just the drummer, and he shined on Black Rainbow. Claudio writes all the songs... However, I did really like Black Rainbow. It has a really cool new sound in a different direction. Nothing wrong with trying out new things. The overproduction killed NWFT. Didn't need 8 Claudio's harmonizing every chorus haha However, my absolute favorite has to be In Keeping Secrets. That album is bulletproof.
@TomWhaley621 ur saying that like the drummer cant influence the music. yes claudio writes all the songs but the other members all have influence and he keeps their talents into mind when writing the songs
@thisdayjustbelongedt No that's what I'm saying. The drummer CAN influence the music, but to ruin two whole albums? Please. That's absurd. Especially a drummer as good as Chris Pennie. Sure he's different than Josh, but he is still incredible.
@TomWhaley621 what im saying is that chris pennie's style took the band in a direction that is not the true style of the other members. chris pennie is a great drummer, i never said he wasnt, but hes great in his style of drumming and i dont think that that style is what is best for the band
@jacksonmortka ya but chris still wrote the vast majority of the drum parts and had a say in where the album would go musically. taylor hawkins only drummed because chris was still under contract with dillinger escape plan which didnt let him record for another label
@thisdayjustbelongedt Chris did write most of the parts, but in the studio taylor essentially did what he wanted to. Besides, even playing the exact part chris and taylor would be distinguishable. You just can't singlehandedly blame Chris for NWFT not being as fantastic as the earlier stuff.
@jacksonmortka im not singlehandedly blaming him. im just saying that the two albums that have been released since his arrival have been mediocre albums compared to the greatness of the first 3 and he is the biggest change to the band, so he gets the majority of the blame
@EternalChaotix this made me laugh. dont let your opinion come in the way of facts. I prefer chris over josh (my opinion) but skill level chris blows josh out of the water. look up anything on pennie and you will know what im talking about
I'm with you on that one. I respect Josh and do think he is amazing drummer, but Chris brings it to a whole other level. Chris does a magnificent job of recreating Josh's tracks and still brings his own unique flavour to the table. People must remember that regardless of who drums, Coheed & Cambria is still a behemoth in musical performance.
I think there's a certain level of accepting the fact that Josh is no longer the drummer...the first 3 albums were absolute gold, drum-wise. Relative simplicity but loaded with grooviness. NWFT with Taylor Hawkins is nothing to scoff at either. YOTBR is not really for me. It's the entirety of the album, drums and all. Guns of Summer -- now that's an awesome Chris Pennie drum part. I just don't like the album as much.
PS Listen to Josh's brother Joey's band "3" it will change your life
What's really impressive is that he never used a double bass pedal. Always a single. And to play in a prog rock band with such a small kit is a testimate to his skill as a drummer and musician.
I just love the flow and rhythm he has. He is such an amazing drummer, and as good as Chris Pennie is, Josh is just THE drummer for Coheed. I can't help but think what the last two albums would have sounded like if he were still with the band. I probably would have liked No World a lot better.
prsplayer16 you apparently don't play drums and have no idea of the difference in Josh's playing. If you honestly think he plays the same beat, your totally wrong and an idiot for even thinking that
Exactly it's his signature beat, but you have to pay attention to all the ghost notes and other stuff he plays... listen to one of Josh's acoustic sessions, it's incredible if you just listen to the notes he sneaks in there or bass notes.
ok guys random ass question does anyone know what brand of drum gloves josh used cuz i want em and cant find em anywhere! im thinkin there made by vic firth cuz that was his sponser but idk cant find em anywhere.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
lol well ok maybe not rubbish, hes not consistant, his time keeping goes off and its almost like hes struggling to play part because hes making bits to complicated for himself
while i do agree, this is just a little jam with claudio. just a bunch of ideas and things they had in their minds while playing. the perfect time to screw around with complex fills and beats... which will throw you off time. watch a live performance with eppard and you'll see how incredibly solid of a drummer he is
I don't think you know what your talking about, that's what made Josh so amazing, he could change time signatures in a song. Plus this is opening drum solo/improv that was later taken out of the song, so no he isn't going to keep a basic beat. You need to learn to play the drums first, because from what you said I know you haven't or haven't done it enough.
@Splintermetalgear Well said, brother. Josh is one of my main inspirations when it comes to drums, right next to Neil Peart, Carl Palmer, Gene Krupa and Taylor Hawkins.
Oh and by the way if he was struggling to play the part, I think Claudio would have stopped and started over, this is from the making of Good Apollo, and when you can actually see there faces Claudio is totally smiling at his playing.
chris is a good drummer, that's a given, but like many have said before....josh is the better fit for coheed.
the way i compare them is that josh is delicate and thrives on groove and openness. chris is a lot more straight forward, i don't think anything he does is necessarily more technical, he just plays some things faster than most can. his drum solo was pretty good, but i enjoyed this video far more than i enjoyed his solo on neverender.
cus that's the real heart of coheed right there. That's something youll never get to see ever again. but we got it on video man! :D a real groovy drummer.
exactly. i forgot to mention too that chris totally ruined the groove to the final cut on neverender. the beat he plays is just slightly different from josh, but it feels mechanical and rushed and there's no breathing room. that's a fine example of how these two are different, sometimes in little ways, but it can make all the difference.
@renegadezombie he also ruined the suffering. Everything Pennie did just seemed off. Josh should take it as a compliment that he had to be replaced by Pennie. Josh is definately one of my favorite drummers. Hopefully one day they will reunite and do another good record..
@renegadezombie Chris Pennie was perfect for Dillinger because they were a mechanical band. Seriously, I wish he would come back but Billy Rymer is such a great replacement and could possibly be better than Pennie back in the day.
@renegadezombie Chris' final cut solos are boring. It's essentially a small few beats repeated for 10 minutes or however long. The only that that he impresses with is his speed; he's really not a very creative drummer.
It's not that we don't like Chris, but it is always hard to replace someone like Josh. It's because we love the way those two drummers play. I say Josh is more on style+groove while Chris is more on effects.
nah, Chris is taking them to a whole new level. Watch his solo on the Neverender DvD. He's not necessarily better, but i think he's making them sound more aggressive which is cool. I do love Josh's style on the original tracks, which Chris couldn't have produced the same feel. So i accept Chris while appreciating what Josh did
I have to disagree. I like chris's style, it's good. It's a decent fit for coheed, the aggressiveness is cool. Just not as perfect as a fit as josh was for there, style. He did a really good jobs making there songs heavy when they needed to be, josh is an extremely in the pocket drummer. Less about fills and more about the groove. Listen 1:03.. fucking groovey! I think josh could've done a good job on the new album, but chris did do a great job, il'l give him that. I'll always fele josh more.
i cant disagree with ya at all, cuz youre right about Josh in that his beats have a true Coheed feel. But im not disappointed at all with Chris, he fits in quite well.
@Mattmoo36 yup, that's exactly how i feel man. Glad we could agree. Chris is good. Josh is better (in terms of groove for coheed) chris is stil lamazing.
Tight shit. I'll miss Josh's style on the next coheed record, but i'm also excited to see how chris plays...he's a technical monster! Josh has the grooves tho.
@dreadly101 dont let your opinion come in the way of facts. If we are talking baseball josh is in the minors while chris is in the majors. There is no compairing the skill level of the two.
Pretty sure you guys who say Chris Pennie is better don't know what your talking about. I play drums and Josh Eppard's style of drums is solid and very skilled. Chris Pennie is an awesome drummer, but that doesn't mean he is better. I like them both, I prefer Josh more than Chris, but that doesn't mean one is better than the other, the both have different styles. So don't go saying one is better than the other unless you actually play drums and know what your talking about
mate you took the words rite out of my mouth totaly 100% ive idolized josh for years even before coheed when he played in paint by number you should check them out man im also a drummer also and cant describe how upset i was wen he left coheed ha ha but still pennie is awesome but never a mr eppead lol
from a technical stand-point chris can play circles around josh. Josh wrote sick ass parts for the coheed cd's and I prefer josh's feel/style but you gotta give it to chris he is a more accomplished player
I know, it's just a matter of style though. I prefer Josh over Chris. Chris and Josh are both good, I just hate it when people say, "Oh I love Josh, but hate Chris and Chris has no skill" or "Chris is so much better than Josh." Both of these are a load of crap. Every drummer is different, you can't say one is worse than the other when it comes to skill. It's like ripping on a artist who draws just people and an artist who draws scenery with people... you can't rip on one or the other, diff style
@Splintermetalgear I'm not disagreeing with you on the fact that they're both good, but I will say that there are plenty of people who play the drums and ultimately have no idea what they're talking about.
they are both good drummers. josh is more groovy. and chris is more technical. but either way they are both good. and coheed is more technical now and more harder. listen to NWFT and say I'm wrong.
sounds like it could be an intro to "The Final Cut" towards the end he plays the beats he usually did to the intro to it. Josh is amazing though. When Mic and Josh left I was sad but when Mic returned I was happy because I thought well, if one member had to leave, Josh would be it. But, after seeing this, man I wish he was still with them. Highly underrated drummer. One of my favorites.
eppard is one of my favourite drummers because of his foot speed and the way he uses that speed in his grooves. id rather be able to play like he does with one foot, than use a double kick like pennie does. but in saying that, chris pennie is probably the better drummer in a more technical aspect. oh and also, its good to see someone playing open handed for a change. coheed and cambria ftw! no matter who their drummer is
@crumblethesystem Don't get me wrong I know Chris Pennie is a true badass, I say "wrong" as in relation to the album version. I grew to like the way Josh played it on the record and therefore don't care much for Chris's subtle variation.
sorry but that is so not true pennie is in fact a better drummer techically and im sure he could play practically ANYTHING i wouldent diss chris he is above josh and respected as one of the worlds best . I do however prefer joshs style like many others and he is my prefered drummer but wow chris has just unbelivable chops man
Difference being: Pennie has the technical advantage and Josh has the groove.
So I'm pretty sure he could imitate this if he wanted (the guy learned Aphex Twin's 'Come To Daddy' on a real kit for goodness sake!) - as for inventing it and WRITING a drum
What song is this? Josh hammers it

thisdayjustbelongedt 1 year ago
@thisdayjustbelongedt you're going to blame it on Chris Pennie? come on. he's just the drummer, and he shined on Black Rainbow. Claudio writes all the songs... However, I did really like Black Rainbow. It has a really cool new sound in a different direction. Nothing wrong with trying out new things. The overproduction killed NWFT. Didn't need 8 Claudio's harmonizing every chorus haha However, my absolute favorite has to be In Keeping Secrets. That album is bulletproof.
TomWhaley621 1 year ago
@TomWhaley621 ur saying that like the drummer cant influence the music. yes claudio writes all the songs but the other members all have influence and he keeps their talents into mind when writing the songs
thisdayjustbelongedt 1 year ago
@thisdayjustbelongedt No that's what I'm saying. The drummer CAN influence the music, but to ruin two whole albums? Please. That's absurd. Especially a drummer as good as Chris Pennie. Sure he's different than Josh, but he is still incredible.
TomWhaley621 1 year ago
@TomWhaley621 what im saying is that chris pennie's style took the band in a direction that is not the true style of the other members. chris pennie is a great drummer, i never said he wasnt, but hes great in his style of drumming and i dont think that that style is what is best for the band
thisdayjustbelongedt 1 year ago
@thisdayjustbelongedt taylor hawkins from the foo fighters drummed on NWFT
jacksonmortka 1 year ago
@jacksonmortka ya but chris still wrote the vast majority of the drum parts and had a say in where the album would go musically. taylor hawkins only drummed because chris was still under contract with dillinger escape plan which didnt let him record for another label
thisdayjustbelongedt 1 year ago
@thisdayjustbelongedt Chris did write most of the parts, but in the studio taylor essentially did what he wanted to. Besides, even playing the exact part chris and taylor would be distinguishable. You just can't singlehandedly blame Chris for NWFT not being as fantastic as the earlier stuff.
jacksonmortka 1 year ago
@jacksonmortka im not singlehandedly blaming him. im just saying that the two albums that have been released since his arrival have been mediocre albums compared to the greatness of the first 3 and he is the biggest change to the band, so he gets the majority of the blame
thisdayjustbelongedt 1 year ago

@EternalChaotix this made me laugh. dont let your opinion come in the way of facts. I prefer chris over josh (my opinion) but skill level chris blows josh out of the water. look up anything on pennie and you will know what im talking about
solonaviavenger 10 months ago
@solonaviavenger
I'm with you on that one. I respect Josh and do think he is amazing drummer, but Chris brings it to a whole other level. Chris does a magnificent job of recreating Josh's tracks and still brings his own unique flavour to the table. People must remember that regardless of who drums, Coheed & Cambria is still a behemoth in musical performance.
campkadeyourself 9 months ago
Josh vs Chris:
Josh: all about groove and feeling the music
Chris: all about technicality and speed
i wish people would stop saying who the 'better' drummer is. they both have their strengths. however, i believe that josh was a better fit for coheed.
obtom1331 1 year ago
fucking love the sound of his drums!!
Lawnboii 1 year ago
I think there's a certain level of accepting the fact that Josh is no longer the drummer...the first 3 albums were absolute gold, drum-wise. Relative simplicity but loaded with grooviness. NWFT with Taylor Hawkins is nothing to scoff at either. YOTBR is not really for me. It's the entirety of the album, drums and all. Guns of Summer -- now that's an awesome Chris Pennie drum part. I just don't like the album as much.
PS Listen to Josh's brother Joey's band "3" it will change your life
RunningFromSatan 1 year ago
What's really impressive is that he never used a double bass pedal. Always a single. And to play in a prog rock band with such a small kit is a testimate to his skill as a drummer and musician.
conker3685 1 year ago
i want josh's right foot. and yes, he was the heart of coheed, imo.
tangoyankee28 1 year ago
@tangoyankee28 not even. claudio by far. and mic. theyre the ones who write most of the music.

sad :( little did claudio know what was about to happen
MatthewPauLAmmons 1 year ago
I just love the flow and rhythm he has. He is such an amazing drummer, and as good as Chris Pennie is, Josh is just THE drummer for Coheed. I can't help but think what the last two albums would have sounded like if he were still with the band. I probably would have liked No World a lot better.

ok so he's in a new band playing the same fucking beat he always plays? lol
prsplayer16 2 years ago
prsplayer16 you apparently don't play drums and have no idea of the difference in Josh's playing. If you honestly think he plays the same beat, your totally wrong and an idiot for even thinking that
Splintermetalgear 1 year ago
@Splintermetalgear im talking about the kick-kick-snare pattern he always does forever and ever in almost every coheed song
prsplayer16 1 year ago
Exactly it's his signature beat, but you have to pay attention to all the ghost notes and other stuff he plays... listen to one of Josh's acoustic sessions, it's incredible if you just listen to the notes he sneaks in there or bass notes.
Splintermetalgear 1 year ago
you could use a little kick kick snare in my opinion you fucking fat ass hater.

lol well ok maybe not rubbish, hes not consistant, his time keeping goes off and its almost like hes struggling to play part because hes making bits to complicated for himself
teeth87 2 years ago
while i do agree, this is just a little jam with claudio. just a bunch of ideas and things they had in their minds while playing. the perfect time to screw around with complex fills and beats... which will throw you off time. watch a live performance with eppard and you'll see how incredibly solid of a drummer he is
ManBearJTS 2 years ago
He is solid. In fact i can't see where he gets off time too much? This is pretty much beast to me haha.
juble2 2 years ago
I don't think you know what your talking about, that's what made Josh so amazing, he could change time signatures in a song. Plus this is opening drum solo/improv that was later taken out of the song, so no he isn't going to keep a basic beat. You need to learn to play the drums first, because from what you said I know you haven't or haven't done it enough.
Splintermetalgear 2 years ago
@Splintermetalgear Well said, brother. Josh is one of my main inspirations when it comes to drums, right next to Neil Peart, Carl Palmer, Gene Krupa and Taylor Hawkins.
skapunkteddybear 1 year ago
@skapunkteddybear Wow. Can't remember the last time anyone mentioned Carl Palmer as an influence. He doesn't get the credit he deserves.
kindofawesome923 1 year ago
Oh and by the way if he was struggling to play the part, I think Claudio would have stopped and started over, this is from the making of Good Apollo, and when you can actually see there faces Claudio is totally smiling at his playing.
Splintermetalgear 2 years ago
chris is a good drummer, that's a given, but like many have said before....josh is the better fit for coheed.
the way i compare them is that josh is delicate and thrives on groove and openness. chris is a lot more straight forward, i don't think anything he does is necessarily more technical, he just plays some things faster than most can. his drum solo was pretty good, but i enjoyed this video far more than i enjoyed his solo on neverender.
renegadezombie 2 years ago 8
cus that's the real heart of coheed right there. That's something youll never get to see ever again. but we got it on video man! :D a real groovy drummer.
juble2 2 years ago 11
exactly. i forgot to mention too that chris totally ruined the groove to the final cut on neverender. the beat he plays is just slightly different from josh, but it feels mechanical and rushed and there's no breathing room. that's a fine example of how these two are different, sometimes in little ways, but it can make all the difference.
renegadezombie 2 years ago 5
@renegadezombie he also ruined the suffering. Everything Pennie did just seemed off. Josh should take it as a compliment that he had to be replaced by Pennie. Josh is definately one of my favorite drummers. Hopefully one day they will reunite and do another good record..
werocknone 1 year ago
@renegadezombie Chris Pennie was perfect for Dillinger because they were a mechanical band. Seriously, I wish he would come back but Billy Rymer is such a great replacement and could possibly be better than Pennie back in the day.

javierlocutor 2 years ago 2
@renegadezombie Chris' final cut solos are boring. It's essentially a small few beats repeated for 10 minutes or however long. The only that that he impresses with is his speed; he's really not a very creative drummer.
neverender71 1 year ago
@renegadezombie Well Claudio is in this video. He makes everything better
drumsfouraliving 1 year ago
@renegadezombie fit for coheed maybe but not the better drummer. chris is much more technical
horrorinc1234567890 1 year ago
@horrorinc1234567890 Being more technical does not automatically make one a drummer better than the other....
kindofawesome923 10 months ago
It's not that we don't like Chris, but it is always hard to replace someone like Josh. It's because we love the way those two drummers play. I say Josh is more on style+groove while Chris is more on effects.
chieDgreat 2 years ago
nah, Chris is taking them to a whole new level. Watch his solo on the Neverender DvD. He's not necessarily better, but i think he's making them sound more aggressive which is cool. I do love Josh's style on the original tracks, which Chris couldn't have produced the same feel. So i accept Chris while appreciating what Josh did
Mattmoo36 2 years ago
I have to disagree. I like chris's style, it's good. It's a decent fit for coheed, the aggressiveness is cool. Just not as perfect as a fit as josh was for there, style. He did a really good jobs making there songs heavy when they needed to be, josh is an extremely in the pocket drummer. Less about fills and more about the groove. Listen 1:03.. fucking groovey! I think josh could've done a good job on the new album, but chris did do a great job, il'l give him that. I'll always fele josh more.
juble2 2 years ago
i cant disagree with ya at all, cuz youre right about Josh in that his beats have a true Coheed feel. But im not disappointed at all with Chris, he fits in quite well.
Mattmoo36 2 years ago
@Mattmoo36 yup, that's exactly how i feel man. Glad we could agree. Chris is good. Josh is better (in terms of groove for coheed) chris is stil lamazing.
juble2 2 years ago
like i said, check out his solo on Neverender. He's not a disappointing replacement :O

So don't go saying one is better than the other unless you actually play drums and know what your talking about
Splintermetalgear 2 years ago 10
mate you took the words rite out of my mouth totaly 100% ive idolized josh for years even before coheed when he played in paint by number you should check them out man im also a drummer also and cant describe how upset i was wen he left coheed ha ha but still pennie is awesome but never a mr eppead lol

monstargibson 2 years ago
from a technical stand-point chris can play circles around josh. Josh wrote sick ass parts for the coheed cd's and I prefer josh's feel/style but you gotta give it to chris he is a more accomplished player
jlaw666 2 years ago
I know, it's just a matter of style though. I prefer Josh over Chris. Chris and Josh are both good, I just hate it when people say, "Oh I love Josh, but hate Chris and Chris has no skill" or "Chris is so much better than Josh." Both of these are a load of crap. Every drummer is different, you can't say one is worse than the other when it comes to skill. It's like ripping on a artist who draws just people and an artist who draws scenery with people... you can't rip on one or the other, diff style
Splintermetalgear 2 years ago 2
@Splintermetalgear I'm not disagreeing with you on the fact that they're both good, but I will say that there are plenty of people who play the drums and ultimately have no idea what they're talking about.

they are both good drummers. josh is more groovy. and chris is more technical. but either way they are both good. and coheed is more technical now and more harder. listen to NWFT and say I'm wrong.
arceus37 2 years ago 2
sounds like it could be an intro to "The Final Cut" towards the end he plays the beats he usually did to the intro to it.

Pennie COULD play this. Easily.
Difference being: Pennie has the technical advantage and Josh has the groove.
So I'm pretty sure he could imitate this if he wanted (the guy learned Aphex Twin's 'Come To Daddy' on a real kit for goodness sake!) - as for inventing it and WRITING a drum
