I had an L plate GXL in a Orangey red colour and black vinyl roof.Seeing those 4 clocks in the centre console really took me back to my courting days when i had the vinyl so polished the girls used to slide in the foot well when i hit the brakes.
That is a great looking classic car. My father was a rep so I do remember from the 1970's that he had I think the MK 3 Cortina L as a company car. I don't think he ever drove a GL or even a GXL though.
I have a 1:43 scale model from Vanguard of a 1972 Cortina MK 3 2.0 GXL which according to the card in the box that the model came in was used for the 1972 brochure and for publicity purposes by Ford. But this model has wing mirrors just over 1/2 way along the bonnet. Is this correct?
You just have to see it to think of driving it with Roxy Music's 'love is the drug" playing (on a casette tape of course). Way cool, they still look modern.
nice car and the owner obviously loves it i had a mk4 2.3 giahh oh how do you spell it? the cortina was a nice basic car did what it said on the box. i run a series 2a landy 1967 and love old cars. keep the oldys running guys.
What an attractive, well-made car. Whether you believe it or not, Ford U.K. was REALLY good to you British! During the 70s, U.S. Ford gave us Yanks a shit box called the Maverick, which they replaced with another shit box called the Fairmont.
@mutley0777 Fords in the UK were built in Dagenham, Essex. My Uncle still calls them Dagenham dustbins even though he has a Ford van for his buisness, he, my other uncle and my grandad all worked for Vauxhall though... so there may've been a little bias there.
I love all Cortinas. My grandad had two mk3s back in the early eighties. I remember one of them being brown. I've always thought of the mk1 Mondeo being inspired by the mk3 Cortina.
I`ve had several MK3s including 2 GTs, 1 extremely rare (here in Finland that is) Canada-model, an L model and some base models... but so far, I haven`t been able to trace a GXL or 2000E I could afford. There was one GXL in original shape for sale here in Finland some years back but when I finally had the money to buy it, some lucky man had already bought it and I`ve never seen another one for sale here ever since. :( I bought a Datsun 150Y (a.k.a. A15 in some countries) to cheer me up, lol.
Nice car, but one error made about the years it was produced. The man being interviewed said it was introduced in 1969, it didn't come out until October 1970.
Yes i think your right, that had me scraching my head, but j reg was i think the first prefix. This brought back great memories for me, i thought it was a great car in every way other than rust, and was the best cortina along with the gt with the high back seats, the so called facelift version was a mistake in my mind and lost some of the charm.
Maybe we can make a replica, there gotta be some presser for the body parts. They actually selling a reproduced 1967-68 mustang fastback body! The difference with the vintage is it made from high strength steel found from modern cars.
When I was a kid, I used to dislike coke bottled cars because I prefer modern cars like the mk4/5 Cortina. I grew up and wiser, I felt thse vintage cars have far more character (joy la vive) and charisma than drving a comparable modern car.
Silly rabbits, airbags, AWD, traction control and ABS are for kids spending too much time with Barney.
Be nice if they could bring it back and make it look just like it did back then. The ford KA seemed to be the death of nice looking classics since that was made cars all look futuristic and rubbish. They are basically running out of ideas for designs.
Managerial position if you had the GXL Cortina eh?WOW,they also must`ve paid a fortune in plastic padding aswell!!!Oh eye,the makers of the stuff must of made a record yearly turnover when them things were built.I know i contributed to it.And that was for the mark 5 for fucks sake.I`ve got a Mondeo now and even that rusts!!
hi im so gob smacked!! i have now owned this car for over a year now and she {tina} as she is known is very well loved and is in pristine condition<simply we love her more than ever!!
1970-1978 wasnt it.
i just bought a mk3 cortina, found the car 2 seconds bought it in 10, rare, hm im not so sure, and its body is solid

My father was a rep in the 1970's and so drove a Ford Cortina. I do remember a white Mark 3 which I think was an "L" model Cortina.
I have a great model of a Mark 3 GXL from Vanguard which was used in the 1970's to show off the Mark 3 Cortina at car shows etc...
