Jesus clearly says that if you believe and obey Him you will never die -- nonbelievers may die but not believers. The Bible says that it is the spirit in man that KNOWS (consciouness) the things about man -- opinions?
I think the reason people take issue with Doug is not about his views on the resurrection of the body, the question is: what happens to our spirit/soul when we die? After all, didn't Jesus say on the cross to the thief, "Today, you will be with Me in Paradise."--Clearly, the man's body wasn't going to be there--1 Corinthians 15:50 says, "Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God." So the central issue here is whether our soul goes to be with God immediately at death?

Actually the "spirit" as mentioned in the Bible is also translated as breath. So in this case it is the breath that returns to the body, i.e., she's breathing again and is now alive once more.

Yes, the body and the spirit ARE different. Only the body sleeps. Those under the alter in heaven at the fifth seal are quite conscience of what is going on. Also, both Lazarus in Paradise and the Rich man in Hell as well as Abraham were all quite awake and conscience of what was going on. They still had their senses like: sight, thirst, speaking, hearing, reasoning, etc.

I believe in the book of Jude, you find Moses was resurrected. Feel free to look into it, Jude is not a very long book. Moses, Elijah, Enoch... those are the only 3 in heaven. No other human is, yet. I'm not sure what you are talking about for the 2nd part about a battle.
Moses was not resurrected in the book of Jude. The only time Moses is mentioned is when the ArchAngel Michael and Satan are fighting over the body of Moses...meaning his dead body....which God Himself buried.

I have heard this punctuation explananation from a friend who believes in soul sleep but it makes no sense to me. Obviously this was Jesus' last day on earth, he was a dying man, it doesn't make sense that He would say: Today I tell you something. Soul sleep just doesn't jive with Moses and Enoch being with Jesus on the mount of transfiguration or the sould under the alter in heaven talking in Revelation or Sauls ghost in the o.t. or Jesus story with actual Abraham talking to the rich man etc.
I'm not sure what you are specifically referring to, but about Lazarus & the rich man, thats a parable. Abraham is still in his grave like everyone else awaiting 1 of 2 resurrections. In Revelation you must understand there is a lot of symbolism, In Gen. when Abel was murdered and his blood crying out from the ground, his blood was not literally doing that. The Bible is clear on this subject. To whoever thinks that the Bible teaches that good people go to heaven at death, see Acts 2:29,34.
This story was a true story, not a parable. Jesus told us about specific people, one of which was 'the' father Abraham. To say that Abraham said things he didn't really say or do would be confusing and untrue. Jesus is not the author of confusion and would not attribute things being said to Abraham that Abraham did not say...that would be lying. Satan is the author of both lying and confusion.

If you read Job, and I will find you the verse soon, you find out the definition fo the term spirit there is the breath of life that belongs to God. Not you. A breath does not have a mind or personality. Its not even you, its God's breath. Thats what returns to God at death. We as a whole do not exist again until one of the resurrections. Jesus, as you mentioned, is risen. This is true. But no part of us goes to heaven at death, at all. We await in our graves, as the Bible teaches clearly.
Scripture clearly talks about the saints being under the alter in heaven and they are very conscience asking questions and wearing robes and at one point praising God...this all takes place before the judgement day. I do not wish to argue, I have heard about 'soul sleep' versus death and I believe our bodies do die while our Spirits go to be with the Lord or away from the Lord such as the man in Jesus story. It is a parable, the 5th in fact, in a series of parables. If we take everything here literally, them we must take the other parables literally, and how much sense would that make? None. Do you mean to tell me we can see, from heaven, ppl burning forever in hell? A loved one or 2 burning? Forever? Think about it. Also do you mean to tell me there will be conversations between those from heaven to those in hell? How unbliblical is that?

When Lazarus died, and Jesus called him forward, Lazarus DID NOT descend from heaven or anything. He simply came from his tomb, because he was dead. He was alive, ceased to exist and did not go to no astral anything, and simply received life again when Jesus called him. Its that simple.

I think the reason people take issue with Doug is not about his views on the resurrection of the body, the question is: what happens to our spirit/soul when we die? After all, didn't Jesus say on the cross to the thief, "Today, you will be with Me in Paradise."--Clearly, the man's body wasn't going to be there--1 Corinthians 15:50 says, "Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God." So the central issue here is whether our soul goes to be with God immediately at death?

@isaacthom34 Also in the new Testament "soul" is translated from the Greek word psuche. Psuche occurs 105 times but is translated as "soul" only 58 times. It is translated "life" or "lives" 40 times. Other times it is translated "mind", "heart", "Us", and "You". I have the verses that go with these translations if needed.
Jesus did not go to Paradise after He died on the Cross. John 20:17 What He meant was the next time the thief opens his eyes will be during the Second Coming.

Actually the "spirit" as mentioned in the Bible is also translated as breath. So in this case it is the breath that returns to the body, i.e., she's breathing again and is now alive once more.

Yes, the body and the spirit ARE different. Only the body sleeps. Those under the alter in heaven at the fifth seal are quite conscience of what is going on. Also, both Lazarus in Paradise and the Rich man in Hell as well as Abraham were all quite awake and conscience of what was going on. They still had their senses like: sight, thirst, speaking, hearing, reasoning, etc.
I agree with some of his other teachings but this one is not complete according to the scriptures I just referenced.

I believe in the book of Jude, you find Moses was resurrected. Feel free to look into it, Jude is not a very long book. Moses, Elijah, Enoch... those are the only 3 in heaven. No other human is, yet. I'm not sure what you are talking about for the 2nd part about a battle.

I have heard this punctuation explananation from a friend who believes in soul sleep but it makes no sense to me. Obviously this was Jesus' last day on earth, he was a dying man, it doesn't make sense that He would say: Today I tell you something. Soul sleep just doesn't jive with Moses and Enoch being with Jesus on the mount of transfiguration or the sould under the alter in heaven talking in Revelation or Sauls ghost in the o.t. or Jesus story with actual Abraham talking to the rich man etc.

I'm not sure what you are specifically referring to, but about Lazarus & the rich man, thats a parable. Abraham is still in his grave like everyone else awaiting 1 of 2 resurrections. In Revelation you must understand there is a lot of symbolism, In Gen. when Abel was murdered and his blood crying out from the ground, his blood was not literally doing that. The Bible is clear on this subject. To whoever thinks that the Bible teaches that good people go to heaven at death, see Acts 2:29,34.

This story was a true story, not a parable. Jesus told us about specific people, one of which was 'the' father Abraham. To say that Abraham said things he didn't really say or do would be confusing and untrue. Jesus is not the author of confusion and would not attribute things being said to Abraham that Abraham did not say...that would be lying. Satan is the author of both lying and confusion.

I'm not the one saying people don't die. People do die but Jesus is the resurrection and the life, if you are in Him, even though you die you will live. Your body will not be resurrected until Judgement day but your Spirit will live. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord...my Lord is not dead in the grave but is risen. God bless.

If you read Job, and I will find you the verse soon, you find out the definition fo the term spirit there is the breath of life that belongs to God. Not you. A breath does not have a mind or personality. Its not even you, its God's breath. Thats what returns to God at death. We as a whole do not exist again until one of the resurrections. Jesus, as you mentioned, is risen. This is true. But no part of us goes to heaven at death, at all. We await in our graves, as the Bible teaches clearly.

Scripture clearly talks about the saints being under the alter in heaven and they are very conscience asking questions and wearing robes and at one point praising God...this all takes place before the judgement day. I do not wish to argue, I have heard about 'soul sleep' versus death and I believe our bodies do die while our Spirits go to be with the Lord or away from the Lord such as the man in Jesus story. There have been too many cases of people children and young men who have been death for minutes even hours,all of them tell the same tale,they existed separated from the material body,they could see and hear the medics and their voices,they could even think better than in their bodies.There have been thousants of evidense and books written on this topic.

I'm glad you finally brought that up.
Are you aware that under extreme conditions, the brain does some very interesting things. You don't have to even be anywhere near a death experience. They conducted some military tests, and people described lights, a tunnel, flashbacks.. but, they weren't dying? Why?? There is a condition, where the brain will do something similar to rebooting on a computer. A reaction causes a bright light to be seen, old memories come back as brain is coming back.

Now, I said this very briefly, there was a huge debate/documentary on this where people has all sorts of view points. But, this is what was proven. There is no out of body experience. Science shut that down completely, the Bible too, had done that already waaaaaayyyyyy before science.
But some still want to shut their eyes, and cover their ears. Look into it though.. really, really research it.

A martyr is someone who is killed for religious beliefs.. or well, for their belief in Christ. There were thousands, maybe millions of martyrs, or those killed because of their faith. Trust me, the Catholic church was NOT doing the will of God by killing Christians. Thats, the fact of it. Research the term inquisition sometime. You'll see.

Familiar spirits, be careful about that. It is not who you think it is. If I saw a "dead" person seemingly alive again, I would know exactly what is going on. Trust me, its not that person who was once alive. You don't want a part of that.
The Word of God makes no mention of what you just explained. When you die, you are dead. Period. Jesus will be back to resurrect us at 2 different stages. This is what the Word of God teaches.

When Lazarus died, and Jesus called him forward, Lazarus DID NOT descend from heaven or anything. He simply came from his tomb, because he was dead. He was alive, ceased to exist and did not go to no astral anything, and simply received life again when Jesus called him. Its that simple.

oo YEAH,maybe you would like to explain how can a 4 year old child died from a gun shot for hole 5 minutes after his reanimation the kid repeated every word from his parents that were 25 meters away from the room,in the waiting rooms below and he didnt have the chance to hear naything from there not to mention that he was suposely not consiesness.
