The Good+ ending is the official canon ending, which leads to SH3. Shattered Memories is NOT canon with the main series and takes place in it's own universe (hence why all the characters and, well, everything is so different); it's merely a different re-telling of the events that happened in SH1. This ending is merely ironic for irony's sake in that Harry wondered in the game if everything he was going through as just a dream and, in this ending, it really was. He truly died however from Claudia

ok let me clear something up for people who don't know ok if you were alive and went to silent hill there would be nothing at all it would be abandon no zombies no nothing silent hill apparently burned down several years before and became the place where spirits are trapped between hell and earth so what it is is zombies like demons and pyramid head try to send you to hell so what it is is at the ending you see harry dead in his car in front of silent hill it's difficult to explain

First off, each ending is depicted on how far you explore Silent Hill's history as well as saving the two alive companions as well (Lisa doesn't count because she's already dead). Save Kaufman in the bar when you reach the South park of the town. Save Cybil by getting the empty bottle and filling it with repel potion in the Hospital's beginning.

You know why there are so many endings?Cause they never planned to continue it actually.Yeah.They would stop it there.But they saw it became really famous and so they made a second based on the ending where he gets back Cherryl.But in one you can have any story you want to.For example.You can get Cherryl back and Kaufman dies or he wasn't even there and you found the medicine yourself.Or you can lose cherryl and die in the car or lose her but Cybil is still alive.It;s really complicated...

In the good ending- he wakes up and its all a dream. In the bad ending- he is in the car crash and is dieing, but is knocked out before he dies and sees this. And in the UFO ending hes abducted by aliens, take back to their home planet, and becomes one of them. Hope this cleared up things for people. :)

I actually thought this was awesome. That whole adventure turning out to be a dying man's hallucination was a really good plot twist. Which is how they should be: completely unexpected.

@jms2055 Also, if Cheryl is 25 in shattered memories, and Cybil said that Harry Mason was killed 18 years before that, than Cheryl was 8 years old when Harry died, but in SH1 Harry says several times that Cheryl is 7 years old. How do you explain this clear contradiction?

I've recently been playing Silent Hill, and so far I've gotten the BAD ending and the GOOD + ending. Myself being a heretic, I saw the movie before I actually played any of the games (I was pretty young when the first one came out on the PSX, and my parents weren't too keen on horror being in the house), so I've tried using bits of the movie to fill in parts of the game's story that I don't understand. Do I need to uncover all of the game's secrets to understand everything?

Well the idea is that he's unconscious from the wreck and as he's slowly dying from the head injury, he's imagining all of the events that took place. I don't think he was dead yet at this point.

But if it makes you feel better this ending isn't canon... the Good Ending is!

If you watch Jacob's Ladder, you'll see that not only did this game heavily borrow from the movie in terms of stage design, but this ending is identically similar to the ending in the movie. Great movie!
