  • Total rednecks!

  • Yeah we do a lot of that hunting in febuary we have moutain curs, moutain fiesta, and blue ticks we hunt with but also we use them at night for coon

  • My friend hunts with (Fisk ) dogs? Does that sound right , they look smaller than yours, he killed 425 last year and sells the tails to Mepps for lures. Thanks, the rest for potpie .

  • @shortfusedleathernk I'll admit - I don't know. I generally don't hunt squirrels with dogs. This was my first time and it was a blast. Can't wait to do it again.

  • Many people miss out on squirrel season hear in PA. Although it is very engaging, hunters prefer to spend all day hunting deer than a few hours of fun and success when squirrel hunting.

  • @Merkurio24 I think a lot of people haven't been able to try squirrel. They think of them as tree rats or rodents instead of a succulent treat. We need to be better educators!

  • do you hunt in Middlefield ohio?

  • @wildernessoutdoorsOH Sorry, I've never made to Middlefield. Would love to head that way someday when our filming gets started again.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Poor cute little squirrel. But hunting is good for population control nothing wrong with that.

  • @win2008workstation You should try it. They're delicious.

  • My grandfather showed me how to hunt squirrel with dogs and .22's in the oak timber of SW Missouruh. Of the variety of hunting/fishing/trapping methods I've experienced, this is one of the most fun, engaging, and rewarding outdoors experiences possible, IMHO. Witness first-hand the astonishingly subtle complexities of the symbiotic bond forged by human and dog over tens of thousands of years. Also; squirrel and egg noodle stew is pretty damned tasty. The dogs say the same about the head/offal.

  • what 22 is that

  • @arctiksniperful Ruger.

  • I shot a squirrel with my .22 and my weimaraner ran his ass down and grabbed him, but he bit my poor dog on the lip and he bled a little bit but nothing bad...Moral of story is that squirrels are mean as shit

  • @XxClemsonTigersXx Sorry about your dog! Did you get the squirrel?

  • @AllenFilm hell yea my dog chomped down till the quirrel died then he caught one and bit his head off

  • Why would you want to hunt squirrels? Is it just for fun? Is it legal to shoot all squirrel species in the United States or just the grey squirrel and 1 or 2 other species that have become too many? Hunting squirrels in my country is illegal. I don't know the rules about introduced species here however as I am not a hunter.

  • @OStark Squirrels are a challenge to hunt, so hunting them helps one keep his shooting skills up. They're also quite tasty, and their tails make great fishing lures as well as varmint bait. All species of squirrels are legal within designated hunting seasons.

  • @AllenFilm hunting with dogs especially for squirrels it comes in handy! if its not completely dad they will finish it off.

  • @AllenFilm cept for the northern flying squirrel or any other thats protected

  • @OStark They're challenging because they hide. And they're small. And they're fast. And generally you use a small caliber rifle, like a .22. They're also delicious. They're great practice for other game and they're a wonderful way for a young hunter to get started hunting and hone their shooting skills. PLUS, in Ohio there's a 6-a-day bag. That'll feed a whole family.

  • Ohio boy right here loved your video. Keep em comin fellas.

  • at 3:07 is that a rabbit in the backround?

  • @spencerray99 Nope - one of the dogs.

  • You got a voice made for radio my friend!

  • @Jenult Thanks. I was in radio for 20 years before I started OutdoorOhio.

  • funny thing is is right down the rode from me im luckey to know jeff he a good man

  • i use an air rifle for squerrel hunting, good sport.

  • HA! this guy needs to take it down a notch. he is acting he is some important reporter on the local newscast, and even then, he'd need to bring it down a level !

  • @ToiletAssassin Thanks for watching.

  • I hunt with Jack Russell terriers. We have grey squirrels here on Vancouver Island.

    Cheers'

  • This looks like a piece of property near Leesburg Va. I believe across the street from the airport. A bunch of Osage Orange trees along the creek. Most likely developed by now.

  • @BufirdMauhaney Northwest Ohio.

  • Nothing is out of season unless you get caught. hehe

  • @forrest751 I couldn't disagree more. Sorry, I can't even joke about that.

  • its gotta get scary sooner or later with that old guy pointing things around !

  • where are you guys hunting?

i hunt in salt fork, west branch, and ohio power.

those are the main places i go

  • @Chubbadog101 This was in Hancock County, NW Ohio.

  • season came in september 1 =] got 1 fox so far

  • we call em mountain feists, here in east tennessee

  • Comment removed

  • easy hunting there. I prefer air rifles for squirrels.

  • Squirrel soups with hot pepper YUMMY YUMMY..... makes me hungry now.

  • @teng27 hahahaha

  • @2:35.I never knew that.

  • hungry ass dog look at them jump!!!!!!!!

  • @bIackhawkk its more like a passion for hunting, my dogs go nuts when they get on a squirrel trail, same for rabbit

  • they need to have controlled hunts in neighborhoods, the fatasses run the place!

  • my dog would eat my hand off if I tried to take a squirrel out of his mouth. and hes only a little bugger.

  • i blasted a squirrels head in half with a Remington .22

  • Unusual? Not in East Texas it isnt! And it catching on in South Texas where im from due to imported squirrels. Great vid!

  • @Orion508 Thanks for watching! You have a great state. I want to head there to hunt hogs someday.

  • What kind of .22 was that i really want one like it!

  • @TheCobaltCrawfish Ruger.

  • excellent hunting video, keep making more.

  • @Brody400 Thanks for watching!

  • do you need a license to hunt squirrels with a bb-gun? because i have a bb gun that can NAIIL squirrels

  • @BananaPaintball You need a license to hunt any game animal. Hunting game animals without a license, or out of season is poaching and illegal. Shooting at a non-game animal can be a crime, so contact your state officials before doing it. Lastly, shooting any animal with a BB Gun is inhumane because the most likely outcome is injury. It's unethical and illegal. So... don't. If you're going to shoot a squirrel, do it with a license, in-season, and with a gun that will kill the squirrel.

  • @AllenFilm only if they catch u mate. its ur right to defend r country from pests. SQUIRELLS ARE PESTS!

  • @bmxmalta The law wins out. Contact your local DNR or law enforcement to find out what you can do. Either way, I would encourage anyone against using BB guns. Non-lethal force falls under the realm of animal abuse. It's also just plain wrong and in most cases illegal, especially if you're in town. I don't believe in, "it's only wrong if they catch you." Hunters already have a bad rap because the very few who abuse their privileges. Wrong is wrong, all the time, no matter who's watching.

  • @AllenFilm im gettin a mountain cur i heard thee great dogs and im training them on raccon and squirell

  • @AllenFilm you can, however, in most states, hunt (at least small game) on your own property.

  • @AllenFilm u can kill em on your lawn if there in your tree, and if there picking your pecans and nuts (lol) but yeah u can if there messing up your lawn

  • @ThroatSlit1 It's kinda hard to grow nuts in Ohio. :)

  • @AllenFilm =( oh well

  • @BananaPaintball

I wouldn't suggest a bb gun, but if you are the landowner or children or grandchilden of the landowner you don't need a permit.

  • @BananaPaintball Yes.Kentucky in 2008 legalized air rifles of .177,.20 and .22 calibers but you still need a license to hunt small game with air rifles. The only way an air rifle doesn't have enough oomph for the job is if it isn't pumped up enough,is low on propellent or the shot is too long(more than 15 yards IMHO). Keep the range short ,pump that thing up and aim for a kill shot and not to wound.

  • @BananaPaintball i would recomend u get youself one of the gamo pellet guns they work good for small game

  • @Fell545 No pellet/bb guns on our furry friends, please! Wait 'til you're 10 or whatever your state's legal age is and get a nice .17HMR, .22LR or .22 magnum rifle! That way you'll save yourself from having to bash Alvin's head in with a rock or slitting his throat with your dull Barlow, BP. Save the pellets for the sparrows, starlings and pesky blackbirds. Even a crow deserves a decent death from a real rifle!

  • @cheyenne92646 well lets see them gamos shoot just as good as a 22 and its more of a chllenge and were you have to place a well placed shot oh btw im 21

  • @BananaPaintball you will get fucked in the ass by the wardens when they find you having sex with dead squirrels out in the bush... god damn.. you and your bb gun will get raped.

  • what kind of dog

  • Great fun

I used to hunt them with a German Shepherd

    She was a natural

  • Wtf? Mine chases them lol, shes a puppy tho.

  • this is gonna be my first year squirrell huntin! cant wait!!!

  • Nice video....!

  • A .22 cartridge is cheaper than a shot shell. I believe a Marlin Model 60 is cheaper than, say, a Remington 870 as well.

  • Nice hunt! You tan the hides, eat the meat or both? I just skinned my first squirrel today. Cute puppies!

  • holy shit i know jeff

  • squirrel is very good

  • what kind of 22 are you using

  • Ruger

  • I avoid shooting a 22 in the air like that. Too long of a range.

  • y use air rifles to hunt that squirels

  • I am glad I saw this video because I don't hunt and don't want my Collies to catch a squirrel. They are farm Colies, and one catches cats and almost caught a squirrel. The girl has a bad leg. Are they any good to eat? Do they taste like rabbit? So, lift the back legs. I think I'm going to have to scream, DROP IT!

  • The puppy was humping the tree while the guy was playing with him. lol

  • at 3:07 a big squirrel ran behind him, lol. Good Vid dude!!

  • haha i seen it lol

  • Great vid. Thanks!

  • good vid

  • right at 3:07 something runs beside his shoulder on the left side

  • Looks like the dogs

  • i am amazed with the fall of a squirrel i shot a red squirrel from a 250 ft popler and he lived when he hit i was likw wow

  • what kind of dogs are these?

  • haha at 2:01 through 2:04 it fell!

    how far did it fall?

  • I'd guess it fell probably 40 feet.

  • kool im going squirrel hunting after i get my license in the spring:)

  • what program do you use for the opening and cool video

  • We use professional video editing software on an Apple hardware system.

  • @AllenFilm thanks

  • dude!!!!u speak good..u need to be an announcer of some sort..like football or SOMETHING

  • Thanks! It's nice to know my 18-year radio career was good for something!

  • @aveman95 he is this T.V. show lol

  • Do you guys eat squirrels?

  • Yes. Excellent with a garlic gravy over biscuits.

  • @AllenFilm yes or just plain and deep fried

  • why dont u people use a 20 gauge or a pump 12

  • look at it this way would u rether say i can hit a squrril in a tree with a shot gun or i so accurate i can hitem with a rifle

  • @clockmytime one reason you wouldnt use a shotgun for a smal critter like a squirrel is because a shotgun would blow its freaking head of.hahhahaha but seriously a shotgun would explode the squirrel ( :

  • @thugdora no ti wouldnt if you used a 410 gauge it wouldnt blow it appart

  • it would like blow the whole thing apart

  • there so little it would probably tear them apart,

  • Ive used a 410 when i was a kid. I prefer useing my ruger 10/22 though. Had a freind who used up some leftover 3 1/2 inch 10 on a squirrel hunt once.

  • i shot a squirrel from 30 yards with my bow today :D

  • you must have rats there, why don't you let your ratter dogs hunt them?

  • how do u train dogs to hunt squirrel

  • squirrel hunts fun

  • hey i am trying to train my pitbull mimi to squirrel hunt when i let her smell a treat the throw it she does a good job sniffing it out but what do if i wnt her to track a squirrel any tips

  • hey people

  • For crying out loud, folks. For the last time - WE EAT THE SQUIRRELS. We don't hunt what we won't eat. If you don't want to see squirrel hunting, don't watch a squirrel hunting video. We promote ethical hunting practices and are strong stewards of the land.

  • haha i agree! xD I just went squirrel hunting and its FUN! lol and they taste good :)

  • i have ur same hat.

  • No offense but squirrel hunting is cruel. why would you kill them. how would you feel if you were getting hunted? god put animals for us to eat not for sport.

  • we eat the squirrels retard.

  • that's cheating, no competition at all, the area is to0 open, u could hunt squirrels without dog, try hunting in a different area where there's a lot of trees & everything is green like

  • It's all for the love of getting out there. It's as much for the enjoyment of watching the dogs as it is nailing a couple squirrels. Not many people in Ohio use dogs, which is why it was fun to show it.

  • I love squirrel huntin, makes for good eatin and low cost for 22 rounds

  • tru dat ;)

  • I guess I'm just old fashioned. I've never seen the use of shooting an animal unless you eat it.

  • You eat squirrel also.

  • I agree. The dog owner, Jeff (the shooter), and me (the video guy) all enjoy eating the squirrels we harvest. Thanks for being an ethical hunter! :)

  • you eat squirrel bud.

  • Great Video!! I am from Michigan and hunted on opening day and got my limit! I didn't use any dogs but I tell you, squirrel hunting is so exciting! I've been hunting with my dad for about 10+ years now and we always look forward to September 15 rolling around! Thank You and God Bless!

  • I just got back from a hunt, terrible 1 Fox Squirrel, And a couple of starlings, etc. The most I've gotten in a hunt was 2 fox's and 1 gray. Is there anyway I can improve my hunts? I'm using a Pellet gun, 2008 Crosman 66 Powermaster 950fps, I can't track worth a damn but listen to the chitter, chatter. I live in NE Oregon long ways from the buckeye state.

    Thanks!

  • If you can afford a shotgun use one it will spread the shout out alot and you wont have a single shot like you do in a pellet. Also it will most likly kill it on the first shot if it doesn't theere will be more blood then from a pellet so it's easer to track.

  • if you are a good shot, a shotgun isnt necessary. I just use a little 22 with a scope. Knocks the little fuckers down xD

But an AR15 is fun too...LOL

  • I choose by ruger 10/.22 w/ bushnell scope over my shotgun anyday when it comes to squirrel. Went last sat hit one from the top of a tree 100yrds out in the head with my little .22. Never would of got a shot off with a shotgun that day.

  • Get your self a .22LR with a scope. Squirrels are real easy to hunt. find a nice spot where you see a few nests and just chill for a bit, No movement or noise. They will come out pretty quickly drop em if you see them then wait a few mins before getting it because ive shot one and seen another one come out a min later almost to the same place. other than that get rid of that pellet gun man.

  • only a buncha buckeyes would cheat and use dogs to hunt squirrel. my god.

  • It's all for the love of getting out there. It's as much for the enjoyment of watching the dogs as it is nailing a couple squirrels. Not many people in Ohio use dogs, which is why it was fun to show it.

  • Yes! Absolutely!

  • i just cleaned my granpa's old winchester (1932)68-22 short and id love to put it to good use. but i have no idea how to clean and prepare the meat. a video would be helpful.

im not much of a hunter but the 100 acres surrounding my house is full of squirrels and im a crackshot with that 22. im not shooting one i wont eat but i dont know which ones i should or should not.

maybe post a video of choosing the right squirrel.

or identifying the different types that are good for eating.

  • Fox & gray squirrels are fine. Red jimmies are a waste of time and should be left for teh birds of prey and other critters to eat.

  • I have a mountain cur that is one of those born without the tail, but ive never trained him to hunt, what a waste, of a good strong dog.

  • hey can you answer my question whats a good squirrel dog ither then fiest and curs

  • a jackrussel would be really good. there used for rabbit hunting so squirrels would be easy.

  • kk thx

  • Labs, short-hairs, even beagles. Most dogs can chase squirrels.

  • that looks like a fun day of hunting and a good meal ahead

  • when me and my pals go we jsut take a box of 200 12 gag shells just gogin around shooting in squirrel nest and we useley get a few 5 or 6

  • Shooting at squirrel nests is illegal in most states. It's also unsafe and unethical. Outdoor Ohio discourages shooting at nests.

  • wild game such as turhey deer rabbit and squirell always taste the best

  • good size tree rats

  • The finnish spitz is made for hunting squirrels its not unusual to hunt squirrels with dogs

  • here in the u.s most people use a pecial bloodline of terriers called fiests for Squirrel

  • one time i was shooting Squirrels and one was hanging on the tree after i had shot it. I just walked right over to it and then popped it again.

  • lol. kill those damn squirrels. those fat rats always climbing up the trees and being suspicious of everything.

  • I'm generally against hunting, accept for Pesky Squirrels, so Great Job at sticking it to those Fat Suburban Rats ;)

Also, I used to be anti-gun, but proudly support the right to bare arms, especially for self protection. But yea, this vid is Great +5

Never go hungry in this Depression, plenty of food if people can hunt Squirrels.

  • and deer! there is nothing wrong with that! or turkey!

  • hunting actully saves animals belive it or not. Because hunters stop the forest from becoming a store or a new home.

  • also if prevents populations from becoming to large and animals starving.

  • all that for a couple of squirrels, lol.

  • I shot 2 Black squirrels in sweden 2 years ago with a 26' singleshot shotgun - It was so awesome - I wanna go again soon! :D

  • When I was a kid my grandparents sent me off to guard their pecan orchard witha bolt action .22 from these little bastards. My grandma preffered the .410 ...haha! I never will forget that...a 70 year old woman blastin squirrels outa pecan trees!

  • me and my dad have a squirrel dog named jack he's 6 mothes old and we tie a squirrel to the tree and we move it up and down so he can go barking at it im sorry im only 9 i not good a spelling : ]

  • u were usin a pellet gun right

  • Nope - Ruger .22
