@GuidoOnWeels The guy is probably rowing at 45+ strokes per minute. At that rate, the chain is bound to flop around a bit. It's hard to row perfectly at that rate and intensity, but I'd say his form is pretty decent.
@FlyFoxSlyStyle That would make you the best erger in the world by about 4 minutes and 40 seconds (give or take). Naturally I am somewhat skeptical. Unless you can erg faster than a motor vehicle then I think you may have your facts incorrect.
@poc14k he's in the austrian national team... not saying he could get that exact score in a boat but he's not just one of those muscleheads who gets a big erg but can't move a boat.
You're a cheater. The erg is against the wall, so the air is trapped inside spinning the fan. Therefore you have additional power. I'm sure you can pull a good 500m erg, but that's plain cheating..
@kezzy234 Doesn't that just artificially change the drag factor? I mean, if you put a tshirt over the whole flywheel you won't be able to sustain fast splits (although I am aware of those "0:49 world record split blah" videos). Am I wrong?
@kezzy234 That will be shown on the "Display drag factor" when hes setting to 120. Oh and by the way having a lower drag only makes it harder at that speed, drag works like a gear ratio on an erg. The only time that a lower drag will get you a lower split in a sprint is if you entirely cover the fan so like 80% of the air is staying inside it..
Proximity to the wall has no effect on the time splits. At best, it would decrease the air flow and lower the resistance somewhat, but even then it would just mean that the rower would have to increase his strokes. It would be like pulling more strokes per minute at a 1 damper setting versus pulling less strokes per minute at a 10 damper setting. Either which way, the amount of work done is exactly the same.

@CallMeHakan do you not think its against the wall so that he doesnt slide back and forth on the wooden floor, and you have to cover more than one little part of the erg fan cage to have an effect on the splits :) get your facts right mate just becasue you want do it
His time was 1:13.7. 1:18 is simply what the erg estimated the split to continue to be based on the power of his last stroke, which wouldn't be as powerful because he's basically stopped. Learn what split actually means.
How is this a bogus attempt? The vents being closed off or blocked is no different than setting the damper at a really low setting where the vents are closed off, which is completely acceptable. If there is not as much air resistance, then the rower just has to row faster and harder, versus slower and heavier pulls. Either way, the amount of work measured by the monitor is the same. Looks completely legit to me, but would love to debate this with an expert. Opinions?
@eazye29 actually if you cover the fan the computer will get confused, try it put a towel over the erg and you can usually get sub 1 min splits and eventually the screen will come up with an error. Im not sure you can gain any advantage from it as it usually throws a fit before you can but its best to put ergs away from anything that my change the mass flow inlet just to be sure theres no debate.
@BrittonUK a 2:00 is averaged at 500M. So it's 2 mins for every 500M. so it's 12 500M's and 2 mins per piece so thats around 24-25 mins depending on drops in rates and increases in the rates.
Ugh, doing a 6k test tomorrow. I gotta pull a 2:00 flat to keep my coach happy. He wants me under 2:00 though. That's 25 mins of straight erging though :'(
I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes. This is beyond incredible. You truly are a machine. I have a video on here of me rowing 500 m. I did it in 1:17.6 so I am one of the few people that truly understand what you have done here. This is not human - this is a MACHINE! I would love to know what you did to train yourself for this. My video is the one titled "500 meter row - Concept 2" by kmunson007. Congratulations on this incredible accomplishment.
@kmunson007 If you want to know what rowers really train for, do a 2,000 piece. try to beat mine My time was a 6:28 and im 165 pounds and 17 years old.
@bjbjbzz I beat that with a 6:27 at 177 pounds last year when i was 17. i just started training again and we did a killer leg work out for 45 minutes and a 2k at the end and i pulled 6:48. I've only been back in for 6 weeks after a 6 month break. hoping to pull 6:20 at ergomania februraru 5th
@ChadAndrewsLovesGod Nice i was 165 and pulled a 6:28 when i was 17. I'm 185 now and I'm holding my 3 by 3k's at 1:41 average. I'm not going to do a 2k till Feb 5 at main line slide. Hoping to sub 6:20, but it's gonna be tough since I'm only 6'1"
@ChadAndrewsLovesGod Yeah it kills me to see some kids on my team go half assed when they're like 6'5". I can only imagine what we could do with that kinda height haha
