Personally I'm not a fan of folding knives, they just seem a bit flimsy when dong things like splitting sticks down. I really highly reccomend Mora Clippers, they are around £10 and the blade quality of a much much more expensive knife. They have a full tang and good thick blade on them and feel almost unbreakable. The only downside is the tacky plastic sheath but you canalways make your own
think ill check out the svord i love knives so my edc changes a bit but everyday no matter what i switch i carry a case 2 blade pocket knife and my leatherman which has a decent blade i just bought a myerco medium skinner got a good deal but still testing it out so far so good tho
I too carry the peasant knife, i have all sorts of knives expensive and midrange but there is something about the svord peasant that makes me LOVE it and always have at arms reach
my edc: -3m of polypropene garden twine in a money bag the one end sticking out for easy accses -swiss army knife with saw attatchment -hand cream -clipper lighter -pen and paper -torch -antiseptic -tea -plaster all of these are lightweight and I carry them in a leather bag which i made
hahaha im from new zealand felt proud to hear you mention us down here haha sorry about the bad finish im sure they didnt mean it haha we're rough and tough down here so we dont really look at the detail haha love your videos keep going :)
My edc is a spyderco paramilitary 2 / light my fire firesteel scout and a small led flashlight on a paracord necklace a paracord bracelet and a casio pathfinder watch.
Excellent video. Thanks for explaining to me what a Svord Peasant was. I like its utilitarian design, and it doesn't look like any thing other than a tool vs a defensive/survival knife.
I carry a SAK Hiker, a lighter, keys, wallet and a phone (but not on weekends) I just got a Kershaw Chill which I'm starting to like so I may be switching back and forth with that. Awesome video and congrats on dumping the cell, I think that may be my New Years resolution this year.
I do have a bit more of a pricey kit for my everyday carry
I carry my zero tolerance 0350 ( I prefer it over other blades ), a cohlan's US made firesteel, fallkniven DC4 sharpening stone, a silver be Franklin half dollar from 1949, my phone, chapstick, and hopefully when I get my funds up a Casio G-shock AWG100-1A, I'll carry a torque screwdriver, and my house key.
I bought a Svord Peasant off of Amazon based solely on this video and I absolutely love it! I'll probably end up getting several more for gifts...thanks for the heads up!
@cinbrian28 That's cool, glad you like it. I can't see them for sale on Amazon, but maybe that's just because I'm looking at it from the UK, they're might be more products available from other countries I suppose.
Nice simple kit talk, as it should be :-) Bits n bobs similar to yours: keys, 3" Whitby lock blade, twist end led mini torch (2"), money tube, small fire steel, el cheapo (6 for £2) gas lighter, cord bracelet, phone (if bushcrafty outdoorsing it will keep it switched off to save batt' and like to be off grid peace n quiet. Only for emergency if need be) Normal day phone use needed for work links. I always recce £1 shops - you can come across well cheap useful items :-)
@NaturalBushcraft i actually lost the peanut, it fell off my keys at some point that i can no narrow down, otherwise i would try and find it cuz it was a gift from my mom. As for the Maratac AAA i thought it would be to big for my keys but its not that bad, and when you use lithiums it stays very bright, bright enough to blind even the those tough guys that say they can look into the light its not that bad, ive scared a few friends making them think i was the fuzz.
I carry a AA led flashlight, and a folder as well spyderco, and that same peanut lighter. I use to carry a similar coin cell led light, but the batts are too expensive to replace for me, as I use the light quite a bit. Thanks for sharing :)
Nice vid. I guess the only thing I carry daily would be my sheffield lockblade knife. Putting it on my pocket is like putting on clothes, a habbit. I do need to carry a bit more than that though. I work at home and live way out in the country and for the most part of it, stay around the house to where everything is just a walk away. But I go out to the woods alot, and then I carry my whole kits with me. Thanks for sharing.
Wanted to say that this video was great ... and the discussion that ensued even more so since it brought the issue of legality to my attention. So thanks to all!!
Now, I wonder what they'd say about the kitchen 'butcher knife' I have in my 72-hour Emergency Kit ;-). Yep, not the best choice but all I had on hand at the time, LOL.
@NewbieCamper hehe.. I appreciate you typing so much! ;) You can always cut your message in half (leaving a 2nd comment after :) Knife law is actually something I get asked about quite often, I think it warrants a video of it's own, I'll do that sometime :)
Brand new to bushcraft, so YT learning 'how to & why'. Didn't even think to check knife restrictions here in Canada!
More restrictive than UK!! Length no issue, but no "conceal carry" *and* 'prohibited weapons' = "...knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife" (Wiki excerpt). SO, no Svord or similar in my EDC :-(
@yoohoosk8r Yeah I must admit I've been tempted to do the same in the past drop the peanut lighter (because it's seal perished in no time and so it's lighter fluid dries up quicker) and I think I should improve my LED but would still like it to be small.
@strat2206 UK Knife law does suck mate :( But did you know YOU ARE allowed to carry a knife in a public place without having to have a justifiable reason for the old bill? As long as it meets the following requirements:
a) It's a folding knife
b) It does not have a locking mechanism
c) It's less than 3 inches.
Seriously if you want to learn more on the matter bud pop on to our forums and I'd be more than happy to fill you in. Cheers,
Congratulations on reaching 100 videos,,and thanks for sharing your EDC,,Svords have a considerable following,,I can see you have done a bit of finishing on yours..all the best
@dafrogtoad No problem :) I'm actually thinking of doing more videos on the kit I carry (a few people have shown an interest in what I carry in my Rucksack so I might do one on that).
@aru05001 Isn't it safer to stay inside and not explore the wilderness? Yes it is.. but we don't always like to live life bubble wrapped. Don't get me wrong when I'm going to remote places for a trip, like Dartmoor perhaps, I'll most often be with a buddy who has a mobile phone anyway. Your never to far from a phone in the UK now (unfortunately). I've been a couple of months now without a phone, as there hasn't been an instance when I truly needed a phone.
I put a tiny one LED lamp that has a photocell recharger on a lanyard along with a simple Remington brand battery powered pocket style watch and a blast match ferro rod system. The watch is proven to be durable. The fragile watch band pin that held the watch to the clip broke during winter. I managed to load the watch up with several tons of snow and hauled it out to a pile. I found it the next spring still keeping accurate time after being under 10 feet of piled snow.
I just started carrying the peasant knife. I had to sand the handles smooth since the varnish lifted the wood grain as it dried. I just used it yesterday to carve a spoon out of a piece of walnut branch. I also carry a 'super knife' sold by knifecenter also. It is a folding knife that hold the full sized industrial thickness replacement utility blades. 4 or 5 bucks but it is much better than the more expensive big name brand versions you pay many times more for.
Congrats on your gaining independence from electronics. Ironically enough, I just started carrying one myself. First time in 15 years! But, it's only for emergencies, no calls in the woods.
@MiWilderness Thanks! Ironically my job is computer related (which frustrates me and is something I'm working to change). I spend too much time at a computer and the last thing I want in my pocket when I'm in the woods is another Internet connected device!
i take my mobile out as i often walk alone so need that comtact if i fall etc. as for other stuff i dont really have an EDC when i am working i live about 300 yards away from work and when off i am in the wooda or at home. i work away from home
You & I basically carry the same things. I have the same exact Svord you do but can't carry it everyday (my workplace frowns on it). Basically, I carry a firesteel, just a 3/8" x 4" on my keyring that I pressed into a short bit of copper tubing that holds a bit of Amadou. Also the same exact lighter (can never overstate the need of fire in the bush), an Opinel #8 Inox that's scalpel sharp, adhesive bandages, alcohol pads & diamond sharpening cards in the wallet & a watchband of 10' of paracord.
@mrscaw Thanks! They are fantastic knives for the price, but I do miss carrying my Svord Peasant. I also like how you need to work with them once you get them, that way they become uniquely your own. Unfortunately, my municipal workplace doesn't appreciate the aesthetic charm they have, so it sits with my Mora and Marttiini awaiting our next woodland adventure. Cheer, cobber, and thanks for the great video!
very close to my edc. i have my folding four inch carbon knife, my keys with a firesteel and LED, then phone and wallet. i do carry a back pack alot of the time, it includes my full kit, flashlight, steel bottle, solar charger, multi tool and about two dozen more things.
a victorinox hiker, sweedish fire steel, some cotton pads, all of these are in a leather pouch around my neck or on my belt. mobile phone, some cash, a credit card, keys (on the key ring i have a LED flashlight and a whistle).
i was thinking of getting one of those svord knifes. thanx for the info.
Thanks for another great video, I have heard that laws regarding posession and carrying of knives (fixed and folding) in the UK have become much stricter, can you carry your knife(ves) without fear of the local constabulary?
@carlos45703030 Good question and one I intend to answer with a video when I get a chance! For now I'll say the following about UK Knife Law... In the UK we are allowed to carry a knife in a public place providing it is:
same knife only plastic handle. On my key rings i have a small ferro rod, 3 ft of paracord, wistle, small mini mag torch, and a pill container one with magnusium dust and one with some char cloth rolled up, and a multitool bandanna, and a mini bic and mini cutting tool in another pocket. sounds like a lot but it is spread out on my person or jacket. the handles on my knife bent inward after some heavy use one day. Have you had any problems with your wood handles moving?
@stevebushido Thanks for the feedback Steve, I've not experienced that problem with the Peasant knife but then myself & friends have the wooden version, my wife has a pink plastic one for the garden! Is it the pin that holds the handle pieces together that has moved?
This comment is made in a completely platonic way but i just have to say it :D Ash your smile is FULL of sunshine, when you smile it makes me smile, honestly it really brightens my day :) Your experience and sharing nature are both highly appreciated by this Tyke Lady over here :) :) :) Peace and blessings to all the peeps at Natural Bushcraft
Folding knife(RAT1-most often), Zippo lighter(smoker), Maglite Solitaire(on my keys), Swiss card(in my wallet) a short firestraw(back of my phone case), ~2 metres of paracord in jacket pocket(for practicing knots), cotton bandana(jacket pocket)
@juwright1949 Multi-tools can be damn handy and infact I have one right beside me now (it lives in my work bag). I wouldn't class it as an EDC item for me because whenever I'm not working I don't carry it. Thanks for the feedback.
3. Bic Disposable lighter.

@stevebushido Thanks for the feedback Steve, I've not experienced that problem with the Peasant knife but then myself & friends have the wooden version, my wife has a pink plastic one for the garden! Is it the pin that holds the handle pieces together that has moved?

@juwright1949 Multi-tools can be damn handy and infact I have one right beside me now (it lives in my work bag). I wouldn't class it as an EDC item for me because whenever I'm not working I don't carry it. Thanks for the feedback.
