OMG! This evening went horibly! I am in the middle of building a house. I have been taking pictures of the progress, so I had my zi6 in my back pocket. I sat on a floor joist and heard a really bad noise. Yep....broke the screen. I happened to have an older zi6 before that had quit working. I can't believe it was still sitting on the book case. I googled how to disassemble a zi6 and your video came up. YOU SAVE ME AT LEAST A HUNDRED BUCKS! I LOVE YOU!!
@deepbeeps Wow, thanks for your story, you just made my day!! Hope you kept your broken screen one for other future parts needs. Eventually I had to replace the USB connector with my broken one, here too, worked like a champ. Good luck on your house!!
Hi steelijan - Great video! Hoping you can help me. I have a cracked screen on my Kodak Easyshare C195 digital camera. Do you know where I could get a cheap replacement screen and would it be similar inserting it as in your video.
@joanybgood I'd probably look on e-bay for a non-working C195, that's how I get all my stuff to fix-up other stuff, lol. It's so much easier and cheaper than trying to find the specs for an lcd screen and trying to buy that raw part. And yes, it would probably be similar to changing the lcd screen on this Zi6. All of these tiny electronic things are similar and a bit of a hassle with tiny screws and such. But of course, I'd have to tear one up myself to be sure. Cheers!
Hey steelijan, My Kodak Zi6 doesn't power on any more. Do you know how to fix that, or what part I should buy to fix it? It does power on sporadically, and when it's on it shuts down after a few seconds and leaves the screen gray, and I am unable to power it back on or turn it off. Thanks any help would be appreciated.
@TheJohnKhuu I had that happen when I tried using plain alkaline batteries. Make sure you're using fully charged NiMH batteries and no other kind, not regular flashlight batteries. Then, take out the batteries and let the camera sit for awhile, an hour or so, letting all residual power in the camera drain off, getting it out of the funky state it's in. Then put the batteries back in and see if it works. Then check your sdhc card that it's right and working properly. Cheers!
@steeljan So, did that work for you when you did that? Take out the batteries and let it sit for awhile, and put it back in? Did it ever have trouble turning on after that? Mines is still having trouble. Thanks for the reply.
@TheJohnKhuu Maybe your nickel metal hydride batteries are not holding their charge, might want to try a fresh set. Yes, once I had the batteries fully charged and had let the camera sit without any batteries in it for awhile, it did not do this again, meaning, turn on and turn back off pretty quickly.
@steeljan Thanks.I tried that but still no luck. I checked the internet to find a solution for this and there was this website that charges $89 bucks just to fix that problem. Might as well just buy a new video recorder. Thanks for your suggestions and help.
Hey great vid, do you know if this would work for any camera? like if i were to buy an exact camera as mine but broken but with a working lcd screen? Please help
@memo849 Pretty much, yes. You just have to be really careful about taking it apart and paying careful attention to put it back together again. Good luck!
Hey Jan! I took a swim with my zi6 and it didn't work anymore. After seeing your video, I knew about the "hidden" screw behind the sticker and I was able to take it apart. A little deoxit spray applied with a qtip cleaned it up and when I put it back together....It worked! So thanks for that upload. It was very helpful. -captainfred999
@CAPTAINFRED999 Glad I could help. Took a swim with it, lol. Did you also let it sit awhile in some uncooked rice?... that can suck out a bunch of residual moisture and even works as a good cellphone trick if you "take a swim" with one of those. Cheers!
Hi guys! Great video. If anyone is interested in a partially working Kodak Zi6 (turns on and records, but has memory problems, only records up to 10+seconds), it's screen is perfect. It will come with the box, charger, HD cable and camera. Please email me @ oppositelock(at)gmail(dot)com if you're interested. I'm only looking for $27 shipped!
@drpeas I know you'll sell this fast, but if you'd actually like to keep it, I can tell you the secret. Remove the batteries and let it sit for an hour. Then put back in freshly charged AA nimh batteries. Bingo, fixed. For some reason, this camera gets it's brains screwed up if you use alkaline batteries or let the nimh batteries go totally flat. Cheers!
@steeljan - Thanks. I'd really rather sell it so I hope someone emails me soon. I'll give what you said a shot though. If you hear from anyone who needs a screen, please refer them to me, I'd really like to purchase another camera soon. :) Thanks again.
@drpeas Okay, hope it sells fast for ya. One other thing, the sdhc card needs to be a fast one, a class 6. If you use a slower sdhc card, you'll get all sorts of trouble, I learned this the hard way. And if you sell the Zi6, the sdhc card you buy for it will be the same used in say, the Zi8 or PlaySport, or PlayTouch, so you won't be wasting your money to try that. Cheers!
My teenage boys got me a phone for Christmas last year. I made a mistake and put it in my purse. It got stepped on. I couldn't bear to tell the boys, so now I'm going to try this. Thanks for the video and thanks for helping me to get out of this embarrassing situation!
hey i love the vid it is very helpful. my lcd is cracked to and i need a replacement too. i went on ebay like you did and i couldnt find one. could you please help me out thanks.
@95ej1civic You just have to keep looking on ebay. I set up a search on Kodak Zi6 using various words like parts, fix, broken, etc. and let ebay email me everyday with what showed up for those matches. Took me a couple of weeks for one to pop up that was broken but the screen was not broken that I could get for under $10 including shipping. Just be patient, you'll get one.
Thank you! You also saved me some serious money! :D

I need this exact same thing but for a flip mino =(
XxBNycThASk8RxX 1 year ago
@XxBNycThASk8RxX Ebay is my only advise. Put in a search for like:
flip mino repair
flip mino broken
flip mino as is
Those sorts of searches. Took me a couple of weeks before I scored a cheap ZI6 with a non-broken LCD.
