what a great rendition of the Barretta theme by the woman who sang back up vocals for the likes of Joe Cocker, The Rolling Stones. Merry Clayton is a true gem of a session vocalist / soul artist who came back in 1987 with her hit Yes from the movie "Dirty Dancing" i don't know if she's still doing session work or recording her own material nowadays . Whatever happen to her she has an amazing voice.
Merry Clayton's "Keep Your Eye On The Sparrow" lp SO needs to be reissued on cd, along with her "Merry Clayton" and "Gimme Shelter" albums. Thank you for this tatse!
Yes, Merry sang the chilling call and response chorus on 'Gimme Shelter'...and with all due respect to the wonderful Dusty vamppyros old man, I'm not sure she could have cut that particular cookie.
As soul singers go, Merry Clayton was no Dusty Springfield, but still pretty terrific! And gorgeous too...no wonder Bob Dylan chose her as shis main squeeze...
Merry Clayton Right up ther with Etta James and Aretha Franklin. A true Vocalist, not like a lot of so Called "Superstars" of Today who have there voices altered by Technology. Keep Music Live

If you listen closely, you can hear Mick Jagger give a loud shout of approval after her voice cracks the 3rd time she belts out the word "Murder"
