  • Thank you Starbucks for standing up for the law abiding citizen and not restricting our rights.

  • As a gun owner, I don't agree with you choosing to bypass Starbucks. You don't have anything to fear from law-abiding citizens. But I did enjoy your song. It's a refreshing departure from the tired old arguments usually heard from the anti-gun crowd. We've each made our choices; and that's what freedom's all about. If you ever do see a gun owner who open carries, say "Hi". I assure you we don't bite.

  • @CmdrHaggis Thanks for thoughtful reply on this subject. I should make clear that I am not anti-gun, just against the lack of self-restraint that some open-carry activists convey. And I don't fear law-abiding citizens carrying guns; I just don't think there are adequate controls to prevent crazy people from doing so. If I walk into a Starbucks where there are 5 people carrying weapons, how do I know all are stable/sane/safe? Guns have a purpose, but I just don't think we need them everywhere

  • @Rantcaster I shouldn't have made the assumption, base solely on the song, that you are anti-gun. Apologies. I do agree that there are many in the open carry crowd who are downright aggressive, and this is unfortunate since it casts us all in a bad light. As to crazy folks, I imagine that there could be folks with a knife, screwdriver, or knitting needle who I might worry about also. My gun is like my fire extinguisher or car/home insurance. I have it should I need it, nothing more.

  • @CmdrHaggis Well-said. I have seen several surveys that show a majority of gun-owners, and even majority of NRA members, favor tougher laws to make it more difficult for "crazies" to get weapons. It is the NRA leadership that seems to froth at the mouth at even the most mild suggestions of restrictions (e.g., guns in bars, churches, schools and even airports, tougher background checks, etc.). Just need to exercise common sense and try to reduce the carnage from guns, which mostly kill family.

  • coffee doesn't cure vaginitis

  • @gentorel771 And guns don't make fairies into men

  • Rancaster you are not even a us citizen so keep quiet. And you need to recheck your stats. Also look and see how much crime has gone up in the uk since handguns were outlawed by your royal overseers

  • Bahhhh hahahaha opinions are useless. It dosnt matter what ya like or don't it's the law and a right to carry period. So debating is useless your opinions for or against useless it's a right it's a right. I love it " I feel blah blah blah" useless irrelevant meaning less dribble it's a citizens right read the constitution. Lmao so what's new with snooki useless fucks

  • @tf1977sled First Amendment guarantees free speech. So does that mean you can, or should, sit in a family restaurant and tell foul, obscene jokes in a loud voice to your table mates, while the children at the next table have to listen? With every right comes responsibility in a civilized society. Gun rights whackos, of which you are obviously one, ignore this when they assert their inalienable "right" to flash their alternative manhood in public

  • @Rantcaster it is a right, end of story! Many people today still find it offensive when a Muslim person opens the Koran at Starbucks! Who the Hell are you to tell me how to live? I plan to bring my MG42 to Starbucks, and if you don't like it....TOUGH SHIET!

  • the guy that wrote this song will be crying out for an armed citizen when he gets carjacked, or his home being invaded by armed robbers. the "gun" is a freaking tool. no worst than a pocket knife, or a muti-tool. its the criminals behind the tool that you have to look out for. Most armed citizens are not criminals. And whens the last time you seen a criminal openly carry their weapon to commit a crime?

  • The song is amusing, the mentality behind it is retarded.

  • @twombonu A most intelligent response. Can you please elaborate on why it is "retarded" to want a coffee shop to be free of boneheads armed to the teeth with deadly weapons, pretending to be "Dirty Harry"? I'd really like to hear that rationale.

  • @Rantcaster very simple: I am European, one of my great uncles was executed by the Gestapo, mainly because he forgot to take his handgun along. I am never going back to France, because I realize how fortunate I am to live in America. If you don't like the way people express their desire to protect what makes America great, then move to Europe, so you can be executed by the Gestapo, bonehead!!!

  • @twombonu Show me ONE true story of a pistol-packing hero thwarting an armed robbery, saving lives, and I'll show you 10,000 stories of family members killed accidentally or in a domestic dispute. Explain to me why we should be happy to have - by a huge multiple - the highest rate of death by handgun of any civilized country on the planet

  • @Rantcaster Tell that to all the Jewish victims of the Holocaust! What you are referring to is just the price we pay for avoidance of another holocaust. I am not Jewish, but I agree with my Jewish friends. Vous etes un galapiat! Allez vous faire arreter par la Gestapo!

  • @twombonu Well, thanks for that articulate, reasoned response. Here's the thing; I don't need a gun to be a citizen, a patriot or a man. Perhaps you do?

  • very amusing, but also very retarded!

  • Nice !!! Gun safety is very important !!!

Honoring a wager is also important , thank you for both.

I still enjoy your tunes , and wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas , and a safe one as well.

  • Of course we still have a few weeks left till the time line is up for our bet .

  • @Marlin189444 Marlin, I guess there is little likelihood that Starbucks will reverse course before the end of the year, so you win the wager. I'll send a check to NRA, hoping it will be focused on gun safety. Glad to see no shootings at SBUX as well.

    Stay safe!

  • @Marlin189444 Just contributed $10 via NRA website. Happy holidays, and let's hope for a peaceful 2011.

  • @Rantcaster

Thank You , Gun saftey is very important. Thank you for honoring your wager as well.

You have a safe and very Merry Christmas !!!

  • It's December , I googled and found zero shootings at any starbucks for this year , and no changes in starbucks policy .

I think you can send that 10$ to the NRA anonymously ;)

  • I bet Mary Caitrin Mahoney wishes she was allowed to Open Carry.

  • @choctundra The notion that if everyone had a gun only bad people would get shot is beyond naive. The death rate from guns in the US is many, many times higher than any other civilized country. How do you account for this?

  • @Rantcaster. The people with the open carry are acting civilized and are law abiding citizens. It is the thug that comes in with a concealed weapon that I am worried about. Your example below is ridiculous. I don't really think it's necessary to parade around with guns in your holster myself because it seems to be more of a sideshow act.

"We'll rue the day when some open-carry Dirty Harry wannabe snuffs a bum stealing two bucks from the tip jar at Starbucks."

  • False logic. The ones carrying the guns are the ones that go to the proper training and to the range to get better. Going down the street where they're not "packing heat" might be an unwise move. You're life is far more protected by legal carrying owners. You'd be surprised how many thugs are in your proximity that are packing and wouldn't give a second thought to ending your life. I take OPTION 1!

  • @Omps1976 I wish I could believe that all people carrying - openly or concealed - have training, will not act irrationally, and would never pull a weapon except when faced with deadly threats. Alas, human beings are not so. We'll rue the day when some open-carry Dirty Harry wannabe snuffs a bum stealing two bucks from the tip jar at Starbucks. I can be a complete jerk exercising my 1st Amendment rights to free speech in a restaurant full of families, but no-one gets harmed in that lapse.

  • Open carry rules. You won't find me a victim of gangs, robbers or violence.

  • Gotta love open carry.

  • There is nothing wrong with carrying a handgun in public, nothing at all. It is simply for protection and criminal deterrant. People have a right to protect themselves. If they wish to not have a gun, thats fine, nothing wrong with that. However, if they wish TO have a gun, nothing wrong with that. People with guns get harassed daily by these uneducated anti gun groups. But the anti gun groups are never harassed by people with guns. Ummmmm

  • Man, if I were as scared of guns and gun owners as you seem to be, I'd rush out and buy a gun.

  • @Stink808 People who need to have a gun strapped to their waist everywhere they go - church, market, laundromat, coffee shop - are either insecure, paranoid or both. I don't need a gun to be a citizen, a patriot, or a man.

  • Cars kill alot of people. I think car use by average people should be banned. It would save alot of lives. I won't go to stores that have a parking lot because they support the killing of people through auto accidents. The government should transport us everywhere we need to go.

  • I think Starbucks should kick out all large muscular people because I am in complete fear of them. Should they wish too, they can pick me up and snap my neck like a pretzel. Physically strong people should be banned from public places.

  • LOL, lost your 30 bucks eh? So what makes you think your 30 dollars is any more precious than another law abiding American's 30 bucks? Starbucks didn't cave in to the NRA. They not only defended their own rights but helped defend the right's of their customers and their country's own constitution.

  • @Stink808 Starbucks, as a private company, has every right to ban guns in its stores, just as it has the right -which it exercises - to ban customers who are barefoot and/or shirtless.

  • @Rantcaster and that has nothing to do with my comment. Of course they have a right to ban many people for many obscure reasons. It still doesn't answer as to why you feel you are more priveledged and special than some other law abiding American? Special such that Starbucks should bow to your personal whims by refusing someone service just because you have a personal dislike for that person or a general group that you place them within.

  • @Stink808 Gun rights activism has degenerated into a pathology of infantile, "in-your-face" provocation, as in the Starbucks "invasions". If Starbucks can't summon the courage to say "no" to deadly weapons in their stores, folks like me - by the millions - will vote with their feet. Ironic that Starbucks might then become gun-rights activists' equivalent of a New York gay bar: the only customers are prancing about showing off their respective "packages" to each other.

  • @Rantcaster millions? like the incredible 20-30 thousand Brady Campaign was able to get to sign a petition.

  • @ddnosaj I'll bet $10 bucks - sent to your favorite charity - that Starbucks reverses course on this issue, when they realize that it is just boneheaded crazy to let their stores become armed camps. Would you send $10 to the Brady campaign if I'm right?

  • @Rantcaster It will not happen. More and more companys are allowing and over turning long standing policys on firearms in their stores. They are seeing that more and more people are standing up for what is their god given right ( to defend them selfs) Police can not be every where and stop it all. 90% of the time police respond after the crime has happend and by then it's to late.

  • @Rantcaster Seeing that starbucks proffit is up 8 fold for the 2nd quarter of this year , would you be willing to send $10 to the NRA if you are wrong ??

  • @Marlin189444 Sure, Marlin, I'd take that bet. Need a timeframe on this: how about by end of 2010 Starbucks will decide to become a gun-free zone? I haven't heard from ddnosaj about my $10 to the Brady Campaign challenge - would you take that up if I am right?

  • @Rantcaster Yep , I'll take that bet. Fair enough it is.

I get emails from the brady bunch with 5 - 10 links to donate to them all the time , may even hit a double like this weeks e-mail said.

I'll show you my reciept for payment and you yours , OK ?

    I'm easy to find :

Marlin Rifle , 1894 , or the above name here on youtube.

  • @Marlin189444 OK, Marlin, you're on! I've got a note in my trusty iPhone for December 2010. We'll see what happens. In the meantime, don't drink too much coffee.

  • @Rantcaster It's December , I've googled and not found any shootings at any starbucks this year , and no changes in their policy either.

  • @Marlin189444 By the way, I've just done a much better recording of the song - which I hope you like regardless of difference of opinion over the message.

  • @Rantcaster Deadly weapons please. The Glass coffee pot is a deadly weapon if used as such. Guns are a tool and nothing more I have yet to see a gun walk into a store or mall and jump out of it's holster and start shooting people. It's the person behind the gun that is the problem and not then guns them selfs. Take guns way and we as humans will find yet another way to kill each other whole sale.

  • I like the logo. Are you going to have t-shirts for sale?

  • @RunningOnElvis Well, I "borrowed" the Starbucks knock-off logo from the Brady Campaign's website. Ironic, no?

  • I was in Henry's Market in Solana Beach when it was robbed by a guy that first made sure that nobody else had a gun, no cop, security or anyone. When he saw that it was safe for him he pulled out his gun and put it to the forehead of the smallest female cashier and proceeded to rob the place with absolutely no fear of resistance. Starbucks or any other place is safer as long as criminals think that people may have guns there. That's why the worst mass killings take place in "gun free" zones.

  • @RunningOnElvis And of course, there were the 4 cops murdered in the coffee shop just south of Seattle a few months ago. No gun free zone there, methinks

  • @Rantcaster What you are saying is offensive. Are you comparing a murderer to law abiding citizens that want to carry? Perhaps you know the details of the incident better than I. It was my understanding, that guy in Seattle wanted to kill cops, so he did. The guy that robbed Henry's market did not want to kill cops; he wanted to rob the store, so he did. My only point is that he cased the place first. Your point does not make sense. Are you worried to be near a cop because someone may shoot?

  • @RunningOnElvis Your comment on mass killings in gun free zones is beyond absurd: it ignores the tens of thousands of innocent victims - children, wives, friends, and suicides - resulting from the insane gun culture that is unique to the US. One day, we will read about some open-carry hero snuffing some poor bastard snitching $2 from the Starbucks tip jar. And killing a couple of customers in the event. Yeah, that would be heroic.

  • @Rantcaster okay, but I will probably get old waiting. I have yet to hear this or anything remotely alike to it, happen yet out of the millions of law abiding people in public carrying firearms. In the meantime, I'll keep reading the endless stories about all the unarmed people being mercilessly executed by armed criminals who ignore their victim's only defense which happens to be begging for their own lives, that they have kids and a family who loves and needs them.

  • @Rantcaster yep, too bad there weren't a few armed citizens in that store. I am sure the damage and victim count would have been much less.

  • Before Starbucks stood up to the liberal agenda protesters and said all are welcome guns or not. I had would go in maybe once a year. Now I go at least once a week.

  • Starbucks lost me for life.

  • I used to be a huge fan of Starbucks but ever since this gun issue I have chosen not to partake of their coffee again. I once looked up to them because they did act responsibly, encouraged fair trade and earth friendly trends. I no longer believe in them. Guns do not belong in a coffee shop. I prefer to take my business to Peet's Coffee House and independent coffee shops.

  • I used to not go to Starbucks because I wasn't a huge fan of the coffee but I go every morning now. Good to see a company that doesn't give into emotional hysteria.

  • @ddnosaj Wow, so now you would go to Starbucks BECAUSE they allow customers to come in armed to the teeth?

  • @Rantcaster I go more often now because I respect a company with sound common sense and good business practices. A company that doesn't give into fringe groups that use lies and emotional hysteria as the basis for their arguments. A company that realizes claims of people 'armed to the teeth" are not the norm and that it doesn't matter how many guns somebody who doesn't plan on committing a crime has anyways.

  • @ddnosaj So, you're in a restaurant with your wife and kids. 4 guys walk in, take the table next to you, and start telling dirty jokes, using foul language, openly exercising their 1st Amendment right to free speech. You would, quite rightly, be angry at the lack of self-restraint and respect shown by these louts, even though they are entirely within the law. So it is with the blatant open-carry provocateurs.

  • @Rantcaster so if you feels uncomfortable because a same sex couple is being affectionate or a group of young males are dressed in baggy clothes, have piercings, died hair or whatever else you think is different and intimidating should they be thrown out of an establishment?

  • @ddnosaj This is an absurd response; which of those groups/types you list is intimidating anyone with a deadly weapon on their hip? Gun-rights activists are incapable of self-restraint in recognizing that gun ownership rights - like every other right embedded in the Constitution - also come with responsibilities, and expectations of reasonable behavior in civilized society.

  • @Rantcaster nobody is intimidating you. You are feeling intimidated by the sight of an inanimate object because you fear those objects. now if the person was pointing the firearm at you or making threatening comments then they would be attempting to intimidate you and they possibly could be breaking the law in a number of states.

  • I used to go to Starbucks often, but I refuse to go now. There are plenty of other places that support my values. I prefer to drink in PEACE! I took it one step further and sent a recurring monthly donation to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence that's equal to about what I'd spend on a couple of venti cappuccinos every week. That's better for all of us!

    *¬◊

  • @Cinnamombunz Good on you for supporting Brady Campaign. I lived for many years in countries that have strict controls on gun ownership, and consequently vastly fewer gun deaths every year. We Americans look increasingly crazed to the rest of the world. Perhaps we are.

  • Good song, even if I do disagree with you. I never went to Starbuck's before but I do go now. No, I don't carry a weapon but I like that they would give me that option.

  • @hibraisil Glad you liked the song! But I don't get the need for "in-your-face" displays of firepower - at Starbucks or anywhere else. Gives a bad image to all gun owners, most of whom don't need to prove anything by walking around armed to the teeth. But, hey, we can disagree, as long as you like my tunes!
