Friends, for all those who find this early TV series delightful, "fascinating" (I said it, YES I DID) and curious, might I say that it was good being in the right place at the right time. And if you were a friend of either Gene Rodenberry of Irwin Allen, then you were with the "IN"-crowd. And for those who wonder why Gene seemed to garner emnity from certain quarters about his "writing skills", understand that this may be "shop talk" in Hollywood for copywrite warfare, and who gets the benefits!
wow, they look so much different than from the color version of star trek, they dont look at all like their star trek counter parts.... except nimoy, i almost see him with the eyebrows smirking at shatner
@landline00. The episode that Gary Lockwood and Leonard Nimoy were in together was the second Star Trek pilot "Where No Man Has Gone Before"
Mr. Spock was still not fully formed yet, but this is what George Takei had to say about meeting him: "I am here." A voice came out of the dark . And into the light emerged not an actor, but a surreal presence...There was a curious credibility about him. Instead of seeming fantastical, he moved onto the bridge like a proud but somewhat wary foreigner...
This is the crucial part that got Leonard Nimoy the job of Mr. Spock. It's amazing that the "flamboyant" role he is playing is is so different from the now familiar and world famous Vulcan.
Many people have painted a portrait of Gene Roddenberry as being an incompetent hack. I don't know about his writing skills, but I'll give him this: he certainly had imagination, and he was a genius at casting!
Seeing unlikely heros in two actors usually cast as bad guys: Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelly.
Not only because young Nimoy was simply gorgeous in this scene, but because it's so strange to see Majel Barrett! And Gary Lockwood too: this could be a prequel of Star Trek! ^__^
This was the episode that got them the parts in Star Trek.
