  • i go in there like every night lol, i still have to go in the basement tho i havent been downthere yet

  • There are still a lot of buildings out there I live hear I would no

  • if this is manteno illinois than i have been here but only outside... my aunt uncle lived like 5 minutes away from this place

  • I lived in the rented apartments in 2008 within these grounds. It was neat and I wish I could have explored more while I was living there but I was too afraid to go alone.

  • Wow, that EVP was epic.

  • i liv in mateno and went there before :)

  • I was just here last night. Definitely the creepiest place I've ever investigated. Upon leaving, right before we exited the building, we heard a huge BANG as if somebody had thrown something in the other room. There were only four of us there, and we were all next to each other at this time.

  • this is the rules of uniferse. dont listen this society. it is manipulated. be samrt;)

  • psychiatist are fuking bustards. i heard there is somebody which want kill them all. but i dont know him.

  • check out my EVP I caught there as I was leaving it is about 7-8 seconds into video.

  • awesome :)

  • well now that place is indian oaks facility. they are gonna have to get used to ghosts

  • ive been here over 30 times, been in the genie room, down in the tunnels, and every time ive gone, its been one of the most peaceful places ive visited, when it comes to abandoned asylums. i dont believe theres any ghosts here. given the place as an unsettling history, it was allways very calm and not very creepy unless we let our imaginations run away with itself.

i do believe in the supernatural, just not at Manteno.

  • where did you find the tunnels? ive been there all weekend just looking and im still trying to find my way to the tunnels

  • im not sure what buildings are still standing, but there was one, if entering from the main gate, towards the right, all the way back, the tunnels are basically in the basement of the large main building. tho i do know they were in the process of sealing up the other enterences when i was there last.

i hope you can find them, if not, there's allwaya Anna in southern IL

  • Hey, what's in Anna, IL? I have never heard of anything there. What is it, another hospital?

  • well its not abandoned anymore, you have to get permission to investgate there now. its choeate mental health, formally Anna state hospital. its a Kirkbride mental asylum. very spectacular.

  • no dude this is in manteno

  • There are small sections of tunnels still there. All the cool ones have been removed. As far as this being a place to explore its done.

  • This is a very nice piece of work,

    With a top notch Evp.!

  • I went to this place once in October 2006. It was the most unsettling experience of my life, but I think We were disturbing the spirits that night because there were a bunch of stupid teens there that decided to hang around with our paranormal group. This place was never actually called Manteno "Asylum", it was called "Manteno State Hospital". It opened for patients in 1930 and closed in December 31st 1985.

  • This place is in fact, haunted. lol. I'm a paranormal investigator with a local society, and I've done several investigations of Manteno in the past. Myself and many others have had several personal experiences, and we've recorded a few fairly clear EVPs. One that sticks out in my mind is we asked if the family of a patient ever came to visit them, and we got a response that said 'Never come'. It's not the clearest, but it is evidence. And I have no doubt in my mind that this place is haunted.

  • Its haunted by idiots. I have been there all hours of the day and night been in every nock and cranny over the last 5 years when there was still buildings to check out. Its fun to pretend that there are "Ghosts and "Goblins" but there is nothing more then asbestos and filth and wild imaginations.

  • If you say so Northville ;)

  • I would like for it to be real but just cant buy into it. Manteno was a cool place for a while I guess what I am saying is that its pointless to go there now. All the cool stuff is gone. As all abandoned hosptials and asylums of that era have a cool mystique to them. It sucks that so many have been demolished. Manteno was of poor construction comapred to other places. mostly due to the fact that it was depression era construction. but It was well worth the 125 mile round trip back in the day

  • Sadly that's true. The last remaining entirely abandoned building on the property, at least hospital building, The Morgan, is for sale. Or the property it's on is I should say. So it's only a matter of time until that's entirely demolished too. The only reason I do believe in its hauntings is because I've had the chance to collect evidence to support it through investigations with a local ghost group I used to be a part of. With nothing To back up the claims, I would never buy into it myself.

  • Moondance088 do you have videos of you and your group when you were there?

  • I live in nearby Crete, with my grandparents. This old Mental Hospital has a very good probability of being haunted. My Grandma's best friend used to be a nurse at the asylum and she explained to us how horribly cruel the doctors were in the building. They had a nickname for the whole complex, it was called "The American Auschwitz" as ill people were literally tortured to their death. A young man with an illness was also lured outside to 'play' however he was torched to death, as an experiment..

  • um...i live around there too not saying where but they never did that..but even so thanks for the nightmares lol...but still alot of people think its haunted trust me and i kinda believe that lol but it wasn't really like that..it was the second biggest mental hospital in its time and very good...they would never do that..and im not saying you were lying or anything though so yea.and people didn't call it a asylum in that time they just called it a hospital thats a rumor that they called it that

  • how would you know were you alive in the 40's and 50's ? My grandmothers friend WORKED their back then so its basically a firsthand account of all she witnessed...

  • ok ok im sorry i wasn't saying you were wrong i was just saying my opinion...sorry....

  • You're right,

I live close to there (:

  • That place is NOT haunted!

But it's such a shame what people have done to the buildings.

  • i agree with AJacidic.

i cant believe someone painted it over.

    ultimate prank/

    lolzzz

  • Heartbreaking EVP!

  • i wish he/she is doing good now. .

  • I find it hilarious someone painted over the Genie room, amirite?

  • when they went from that guy to that girl she scared me lol

  • man...the writing all over the walls is really disturbing.

it just gets to me for some reason.

  • wow in 3:13 i think someone said "shut up" O_O

  • heard it too? perhaps that would prove that this video is real

  • I used to live in Manteno, Il. My kids used to go to the old asylum(Diversitech)sp?, and scare the crap out of each other. It is a very eerie place. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it were haunted.

  • i've been in that place it's freaking scary as hell

    nice video

  • That evp is heartbreaking.

  • Hm Scary. :/ Feel sorry for those trapped.

  • what time line was I can't hear anything but the ppl talking....

  • the human ear can't pick up evp's I doubt you heard anything unless they were playing back a recording they wanted us to hear...

  • that was actually believable...

  • You never have the ghost actually interact with any of these people. My conclusion is that the sound itself is acutally on another timeline and ever once in awile it will shift towards ares. Maybe actually bouncing sound all around the room up until a recorder picks it up.

  • good footage.....

  • omfg I head it!!! and also when the woman and the other man discuss the taste and smell of used gauze, you can hear a voice try to tell them it's-"Shit.....shit!.......shit!"

  • Be careful with what you said, maybe you might tempt depressed or suicidal people to kill themselves and make them believe that they can becaome as miserable and as dammed as ghosts. But they will be miserable and dammed alright.

  • Ron how do i make my own EVP?? i am really interested in this kind of stuf and i would like to knwo how to do it myself so if u would plz let me know thank you

  • It is really easy, just get a digital dictaphone and make sure not to carry it too close to your body if you're gonna walk around with it because it can pick up sounds from your inside. I use a mp3-player that also has a recording function, then you transfer the files to your computer just like when you transfer music to the player. There are much better equipment for such activity, but this is a cheap and easy suggestion if you just want to try it out to begin with :) Good luck.

  • dude this is awesome. i've been there plenty of times. it's all gone now, huh?

  • Hey Ron, how do I make my own EVP?

  • thats creepy

  • i guess id have to be there to believe it but all i can say is that any old asylem would be scary to walk into wether its haunted or not.

  • This is Ron - I am the guy who made this film. Some people have actually SEEN it and some people have examined our evidence and our process. Dead Whisper is recognized by the top people in this field as a groundbreakig film. Go to the web site and look at the list of names that have given this a great review. And if you MUST be a critic, at least show that you have some intelligence by criticizing something you have actually seen.

  • Note on the name: in 1910, the Illinois Board of Administration renamed all state funded asylums as "State Hospitals." Manteno State Hospital ran for 80 years as Manteno Asylum.

I agree with patback1987 that the evidence presented is disputable, and ultimately personal experiences are supposed to be overlooked when reviewing evidence, but all personal experiences should be noted during investigations to allow investigators to note correlations during the review of the investigation as a whole

  • at 00:48 you stop it, you read till the last corner it says "Gennie"

  • That place is extremely haunted. We were in that building summer of 06. One of the things I picked up on in one of the rooms was a group of girls, or women talking. Chatting up a storm. Never had that happen before. For the people that live out there, you are already use to the atmosphere there. You may not sense much. I live in a very active place but I usually don't notice, or sense things because of the time I spend here. One of the most sad places I have been in a long time.

  • one day we will be ghosts, and some lame-assed money-grabbing "psychic" is gonna come looking for us!

  • Eh, I've been going out there since I was 5, nothing really that scarey. They knocked down the best of the buildings. The tunnels are the only neat thing left. My neighbor lived out that way as a kid and would routinely wake up to someone looking in her window. They weren't that tight on security out there. Then again, it's Manteno were talking about.

  • 3:12....shut up

  • 3:12 that voice says shut up

  • manteno Started out as an experimental treatment facility for severly insane\unresponsives until the state regulated physical\electro stimulus tests and put them in more controlled tollerable conditions. records at Manteno during regulation were doctored. Since drugs were not as effective back then experimental treatments were still carried out just not on the books, the usual bureaucratic coverings applied.

  • the man was shifting his feet when they were trying to record an EVP. the voice they think they are hearing is the shuffling of his feet.

  • i live in manteno and these buildings were nothing scary. (they are all torn down now, even the 'hospital' building.

there was one scary thing i remember about it though. once 7 of my friends and i got together and decided to go and explore the place. there was a chalk board behind what looked like some kind of reception desk that read '7 came in, 6 came out.'

  • another time i was walking around a building with a friend and we heard voices, so we ran out as fast as we could. little did i know, there was a camera crew also in the building that followed us out.

i really don't think they're haunted at all. except maybe the tunnels, but those are just freaky by themselves. i mean, i've smoked pot in some of the attics of these buildings and still didn't hear anything.

  • The most interesting part of this video is the writing on the walls and tubs, I want to know more about that.

  • At Manteno State Hospital, someone found the records of a paitent named Genie, and actually painted them on the walls. It was kind of an art project. Someone has since broekn in and painted the room white. Ronald james

  • no one broke in and did it, the doors were wide open there. the renovations crew painted it. along with demolishing half the building, and filling in the tunels with concrete.

  • wonder who painted it :D ?

  • I think i Heard someone say shut up at 3:02 to 3:16, Im sure that its not the guy because its some kind of vague.

  • This real and damn scary!!!

  • p..l..e..a..s..e..H..e..l..p..MEEEE!!!

  • Someone had to do it, well these people have mixed some major facts first off. The smell they smell, well it is very moldly there and everything is rotting. Also it was never called Manteno Assylum, it was Manteno State Hospital and then Manteno Mental Health Center. If you want the real facts visit www.mantenostatehospital.com, these people are phony and it saddens me, this is no more real than the shows on TV.

  • They said they smelled an antiseptic smell.. .like rubbing alcohol. I'm sorry but rubbing alcohol and mold smell a BIT different. And just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean you should go around calling people phony.

  • Please they are phony and are only doing this for show, I know REAL ghost hunters and have been on a REAL ghost hunt out at Manteno State Hospital (note not Asylum) and we found nothing. Also EVP is the most inaccurate and disputable piece of evidence. I stand by my statement that they are PHONY. Also the smell please I could say anything on a video, "OMG it smells like hot dogs and hamburgers." Well if you still don't believe me, oh well I tried to save you from your ignorance.

  • Those with experience in this field know that on some nights you get something and on others you get nothing. Just becuase you went on a "REAL ghost hunt" at Manteno and didn't get anything that night doesn't mean that there wasn't anything there. Further notes in separate comment on this video...

  • i believe you about the aslyum thing they never did call it that they did call it manteno state hospital and things like that, but people go there all the time and they come back creeped out saying they heard stuff and smelled something(too hard to explain lol)but so yea

  • Why do they only go to these places at night?

  • Because during the day ambient noises like cars and plane and stuff are louder. At this place, we kind of snuck in, so that's another reason. Some investigators say darkness helps, but I think ghosts don't care, where they are is probably dark all the time. RJ Creator and Producer of Dead Whisper.

  • Thank you for answering. Very interesting work. Scary too. Im not "sensitive," but don't think I would be brave enough to put myself in there an open myself up for contact.

  • lol i wouldn't want to do that either but alot of people(like my bro)go there to creep each other out or something, but idk how they could go there its creepy lol

  • I think they may be the story of Ginnie. One says "The rapy was idle." Another says "She was plunged in and out of the water. Afterwards she asked, 'Is alive?'" Just pause it and read the lower part of the second tub on the tape while he is talking about the hot water.

  • Someone found the records of a patient named "Gennie" and painted them around the room as part of an art project. Very creepy indeed. Ronald James Producewr of Dead Whisper www.deadwhisperdotcom

  • some art students found her files and painted it on the wall as a sort of "art project"

  • alot of times, kids go there(i should know my brother goes there alot)and paint stuff on the wall to creep other people out when they get there, so sometimes there just pranks

  • I am interested in your investigations. What I am wondering is in the hospitals past who wrote all over the walls and tubs. It is all in the same hand. The wall and tubs are totally bizarre. Is there any history as to the writing on the walls and tubs?

  • Hmm...no, I'm not convinced. EVP is an entertaining thought but in my opinion, and this is just my opinion, that's all it is. I think if I was just listenting to the sound and didn't see the "Please help me" caption, I wouldn't have made that out. "The simplest explanation for EVP is that it is the product of our own wonderfully complex brain, aided by the strong emotional desire to make contact with the dead." Psychologist Jim Alcock

  • I agree EVP is subjective, but as we say in the film, people may see different things in the clouds but no one denies that there IS a cloud. Something is reaching out to us through our technology. When you hear enough of these it becomes very hard to deny. See the film. It's mindblowing. Ronald James dead whisper

  • Hi Jim! Ya gotta understand what happens to audio files by the time they make it to the web. The voices on the DVD are pretty distinct and there's alot of them. I was a skeptic but after living the shooting and editing of the film, I have become convinvced that Something IS reaching out to us through our technology.

We're just scratching the surface of what's really going on.

  • Lol, my name's not Jim; I was just quoting the psychologist. I'll admit that even though I'm not a believer in ghosts or the paranormal, some EVP's are a bit freaky but I know how well we are at picking up patterns where there are none.

  • Very sad...I hope that ghost can be helped. The video was great though thanks for putting it up. :)

  • That "psychic" just described your typical old style insane asylum. Sorry guys.

  • Dude, Dead Whisper is being endorsed by some of the biggest names in the genre, including Dr. Dave Oester, founder of the interantion Ghost Hunter's Society, thie biggest org. of its kind. Unlike you, Dave has SEEN the film.

  • So if you want to dis us on MY BOARD, educate yourself.

Ronald James - Producer of Dead Whisper -

"Dead Whisper is going to knock people's socks off" Kevin Smith, Radio Host of the Kevin Smith Show.

  • First of all, I am not "dissing" anyone, I am offering criticism. If you can't handle criticism then maybe you are in the wrong business. You put these on YouTube for two reasons right? To advertise your movie and to show people the footage. I saw what you posted on HERE, and commented on whay I saw HERE. I don't need to research anything to comment on something you put up for public view.

  • Secondly, you have NO right to tell me to educate myself. I am not claiming to be an expert on your film, or anything paranormal. All I am doing is stating my opinion that "psychics" are con artists who are very good at two things; reading people so they can tell them what they want to hear, and covering up when they make mistakes.

  • Finally, I am not implying disrespect to you or your organization. I realize that the way I worded my comment could have been seen as that, and I apologize. I am sure you have put together a very entertaining and successful film. But, as I stated earlier, I am not commenting on the video at all, just these clips which you submitted. Maybe I will see the video and become a believer, who knows?

I did not mean to come off as abraisive or bitter. I hope I have your respect.

  • At the end of the day, your "Criticisms" are an attack on the integrity of what happened. And due, I was there. I'm still recovering from the production process of this film, because it was freaky.

  • You can infer whay I was saying however you want. I explained the intentions of the comment. I am not saying you did not encounter freaky things during the making of the film, all I am saying is that the clips you have posted are unconvincing. If you feel you need to be THIS defensive because of an anomynous comment some stupid YouTube viewer posted, then that's your issue. Again, no disrespect intended.

  • It doesn't do you well to shoot off on people like that. I understand your personal attachment to the Manteno experience, believe me, I've had my own as well. But you mentioned to him that his criticism was "an attack on the integrity of what happened." At the same time, he wouldn't know of the integrity so how could he attack it? In the field of paranormal investigation you cannot expect to convince everyone.

I'm very interested in seeing the rest of the film :)

  • Again, very well done! The reality of this film is shocking for it is "REAL". The utter crap we have on television now especially ashamed of our English shows can't mention them but you know them fake being possesed and back to normal in 2 minutes, hardly the truth. You guys are the TRUTH! TY.

  • You can get the DVD(2 disk set) at www.deadwhisper.com. It kicks butt! This and the other 2 clips are just a taste of what the full movie has. www.deadwhisper.com

  • This is going to be a hit show most definately, a different spin on what is out there for sure! Everyone should see this and those that rate it anything less then 5 stars are just not with it!

  • OUTRAGEOUS! Finally a real GHOST SHOW!

  • dead whisper what a title, I love it...it is so suiting for you really got so much and what quality I must add.
