The funny thing is that the industry laughed at Reggie at the time, or ignored the strategy completely, saying the Wii would fail and the PS3 would be the winner because it plays blu-ray.
Everyone thought the Revolution would flop, now, it's funny as hell looking back at this video and realize how wrong everyone was.
It's amazing how Nintendo puts their strategy out there in plain sight (complete with cold hard facts) and yet few people, if any, are genuinely listening.
And as for the facts themselves...Hell, Hiroshi Yamauchi (former Nintendo president before Iwata-san succeeded him) saw those coming well before they were fact.
Sony and Microsoft, you two losers are so screwed.
@MMZERO9 Given that PS3 has outsold Wii throughout 2011 and have almost overtaken 360 I doubt that they are screwed. Given the fail that Wii U is shaping up to be my point is only further solidified. Props to Nintendo for Wii though they changed the game.
It really is interesting--especially after reading Malstrom--seeing Reggie mention Blue Ocean and Innovator's Dilemma by name. Also amazing is that, even after Nintendo PUBLICLY outlined their strategy, Microsoft and Sony did absolutely nothing to address it.
It's a lot more than just marketing, but that would be too much to go into for a Youtube comment. I suggest the articles by someone known as Sean Malstrom (or just Malstrom). All his articles are based on the books mentioned in the video by Reggie.
I have to say, it has been surprisingly interesting for me too. If you haven't had your fill of disruption, there's a video I just recently put up of a talk Clayton Christensen gave himself on the subject. I might put the rest of it soon (overall it's longer than the Youtube 10 min limit).
It's really just quite amazing because, they continue not to hear.
I don't know if I should be worried or excited though.
Part of me thinks they're doubting it so there will be a lot more happening for Nintendo, but another part of me is worried for the ignorance of these people who work with this. Like the gaming media, who put their eggs all in one basket, how long until they realize they've been missing out? And not only that, how long until they realize they're doing a bad thing by it?
to be a successful a businessman could do business of what is currently in-demand or what are popular today... hmmm nice..

"We have to disrupt the marketplace that we helped create 20 years in order to be successful moving forward!"
Strong words, Reggie.

I've read both books and malstrom's articles, I just tried to keep it short for youtube :p

Oh, also, I've nothing to do with marketing and such business, yet I found this strategy quite thrilling to say the least.
