@MikeMiseph I don't think that is a fair statement, I'm white, and I identify with punk subculture, more rockabilly, and psychobilly, but it is all punk subculture. And I am most certainly not upper middle class, I have had good times and bad times, but I don't pretend that I've had it "hard". Obviously any musical movement will have its posers, but I don't throw up a pose. I just live my life and express myself.

@NoSupportForWhiteBoy - I really don't agree with that. Transcontinental sounds much different than any of their previous albums, IMO. I think Gypsy Punks and Super Taranta sound closer to each other than TCH sounds to any of them. Eugene moved to Brazil before transcontinental, and thus it has a much more South American flavor than the European type flavors of the previous albums. Plus having Rick Rubin as the producer of the new album made a huge difference in sound as well.

I wasn't implying that I think they are sellouts. A lot of people have taken that opinion though, since they've changed their sound so much on Transcontinental Hustle, signed with American, hired Rubin as their producer, etc.
I'll admit I don't think Rubin was the wisest choice for a producer, and I like their old sound better, but I don't think they sold out, necessarily. I'm happy to see them get some success with a big label and tons of exposure on the System of a Down tour.
@SoldierSide77 Oh and I wanted to comment that I agree. I like their older sound much more. I loved the raw energy I got from Gypsy Kings album. I took a listen to the album after that and while I haven't been able to listen to their third album just yet the second album just doesn't pull me in as forcefully the way Gypsy Kings did. His charm and energy were a force to be reckoned with and it seems it's being tempered with if that makes sense..

And I am most certainly not upper middle class, I have had good times and bad times, but I don't pretend that I've had it "hard". Obviously any musical movement will have its posers, but I don't throw up a pose. I just live my life and express myself.

@NoSupportForWhiteBoy - I really don't agree with that. Transcontinental sounds much different than any of their previous albums, IMO. I think Gypsy Punks and Super Taranta sound closer to each other than TCH sounds to any of them. Eugene moved to Brazil before transcontinental, and thus it has a much more South American flavor than the European type flavors of the previous albums. Plus having Rick Rubin as the producer of the new album made a huge difference in sound as well.

I wasn't implying that I think they are sellouts. A lot of people have taken that opinion though, since they've changed their sound so much on Transcontinental Hustle, signed with American, hired Rubin as their producer, etc.
I'll admit I don't think Rubin was the wisest choice for a producer, and I like their old sound better, but I don't think they sold out, necessarily. I'm happy to see them get some success with a big label and tons of exposure on the System of a Down tour.

I took a listen to the album after that and while I haven't been able to listen to their third album just yet the second album just doesn't pull me in as forcefully the way Gypsy Kings did. His charm and energy were a force to be reckoned with and it seems it's being tempered with if that makes sense..
