  • Yes... MyDeals247 is excellent

  • Ahh, brings back memories. Mainly of you doing a great job and me coming up with an absurdly silly Trainspotting/Citizen Kane animation :P

  • what if you take a purple pill?...

  • @Midnighter169 then you're not constipated anymore but you your body will miss some things it needs. Search youtube for the purple pill before giving a stupid comment back. :D

    Sweet video.

  • @tekmrs errrrr sorry

  • wow, that was awesome

  • Finally a different typography video! Well done!

  • good for paper, lol, wondering why it was choppy

  • Awessome!

  • first i thought, "hey, hes not writing everuthing they say". then i realized, if i want exactly what they say i could see the movie, or just any typography. But you took time and did some really good interpretention. Thank you!

  • @Torom002 thanks for the comment!

  • @littlefootfeet Oh man that was awesome! You're work was superb! I am supremely impressed. ^__^

  • This is a really impressive piece of Kinetic Type largely because you went a traditional medium route instead of After Effects. Looks good!

  • Love the way you made fate come before do you believe in.

  • @2Pac515 I think that was my favorite part! I love that he actually thought about what they were saying and how to demonstrate that in an almost literal way without having to put everything they say. I enjoyed this MUCH better than most typographies on here.

  • Loved it. Especially the red/blue pill part and the parting shots.

In a week huh? Sounds like me in college!

  • Simply amazing. The 'splinter in your mind' bit was just genius. Then the pull-out for 'welcome to the real world' was an inspired bit of cinema literalism. I hope you got an A for this project

  • thank you so much! glad you liked it :)

  • @Veyrall hm.. i'm not actually sure what mark I got for this...

  • You know, I know this doesn't fall under some people's strict definition of typography, but wow this is cool. The stop motion and the projector idea...it was just awesome.

  • goddamn it, the youtube comment thingie hates me...

  • @littlefootfeet err anyway, I must thank everyone who has posted here; when I get an email from youtube to tell me someone has commented it makes my day in an odd kinda way. thanks!

  • this sucks. you're totally missing so many words. the point of typography is to show ALL THE WORDS, every one spoken

  • :P I hope that's sarcasm..

  • @ Iboe1 - I think you're more of an After Effects kind of person. This is stop-motion. Much more time consuming and involved.

  • Too bad the conversation is cut down, but I understand why. Still amazing stuff, great job.

  • This is incredible. Great job.

  • the entire thing was great, and i particularly liked the ending and how you made a major climactic part of the movie into an opportunity to break the fourth wall in you work. great job =)

  • That was beyond amazing.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, this uis good stuff. Needs a little polish, but I understand the time constraints. Be good if you went back and refined it a bit.

Stil, I love the concepts you portrayed. The 'ee' becoming pills was a good effect - but I loved the ending, zooming out to show the equipment used. That shot typified the entire movie. Very Plato's "Republic",

  • i'm sad the conversation is cut down.... Do you know what it is?

  • Incredible. I must say I didn't think that it was possible to convey that amount of... Drama? Emotion? Something... Through typographic interpretation. Awesome work indeed.

  • Awesome!! But I still think the V for Vendetta typography is a bit better. Great job on this video nonetheless. 5/5

  • really well done! It's especially awesome that that was all done with paper.

  • inspiring stuff

  • I think this was done very well. I realize you had to leave some letters out because of time constraints, but I think it turned out very well. Lots of creativity.

  • that was actually FUCKING ARTY AWESOME it must have been so hard

  • The biggest complaint I have is the fact that there are letters missing. While I understand that you had a time limit for the project which is why the letters are missing, if you couldn't have put all the words in you probably should've picked a different scene from another movie.

You tried to make up for not having every letter with special effects but it looked bad. For instance, 1:18 to 1:33 it really didn't look good and needed words, but oh well. You tried, and that's what matters.

  • thanks for the feedback!

hm yeah I see your point, though how about you try finding a 1:50 unedited out-take that makes some sort of sense even when out of context, from a movie that you actually like and will thus inspire you.

yup, those times you state are definitely low points.... It was my first time using final cut or doing stop motion, and I had to zoom in a ridiculous amount on the word "see".. so just consider that I studied print and not multimedia, so it's more the concept that counts.

  • not very good. plus you missed a lot of the words, too.

  • oh, please tell me what would make it better or why it isn't good in your opinion?

I needed to summarise the scene as there was a time limit for the project- that is why words are missing.

  • that's some good piece of art

  • AWESOME

  • hope u got an A ^^

  • not bad! but a very native way of doing it. u should try using adobe after affects.

  • thanks :) yeah I'd like to be good enough at after effects to do something like this in 3d..

  • very cool^^

  • that was really cool ^_^

  • very nice, ending was right on.

  • Impressive. every little part of that was enjoyable and the end was a very nice finisher.

  • Well Done!

  • FRACO !

  • i did not know this techniche... but i like it... nice work!!!!

  • wonderful. nicely done

  • this is magnificent, good work man and good technique

  • interesting id like to try that

  • talking about nothing

  • I think could've used more frames or be less jittery. but excellent reveal at the end

  • So many big paragraphs O_O

  • You can say that again.

  • So many big paragraphs O_O

    :D

  • lmao

  • argh, youtube comment system is driving me nuts. For the moment i will just say that I loved hearing all these thoughtful views on it and I will try to reply to your points if youtube will let me.

  • I think the mood of the video is different from the movie in this scene. This video feels more omniscent. Also the, the last line of this video is not in the movie scene, so it adds a twist to the mood too. I wonder what the real world actually is? This questions lingers in my mind at the end of the movie. It leaves me a little confused and puzzled. Also, didn't mean to post basically the same two comments below. My mistake.

  • Pseudo-intellectualism at it's finest.

  • Even though I didn't create this video, I get the sense that the answer to your question about what parts were kept and thrown out would be your second thought. I think the mood and the message trying to be conveyed was accomplished with the just those few lines. I believe that the visuals of the film bridged the gap between the missing dialogue and the message that was trying to be accomplished. I think the visuals in the film don't make up for all of the missing dialogue though.

  • Even though I am not the creator of this video, I think the answer to your question is the second thought you had. I think the same message of the video is like the one in the movie, but it is achieved through visuals and sounds rather than words. The visuals, I think, make up for the missing dialogue, but I wouldn't consider the dialogue that is missing, or not said as being unimportant overall. It just might have not been needed.

  • Continuing: For example, when the viewer views the spiral as if they are going into it, he/she will feel as if he is falling into the jumbled nonsense of the film. This, along with things such as huge words suddenly filling the screen, will make the viewer see the film as very serious, and thus the viewer will interpret the film as being a dramatic and intense replication of the scene from The Matrix. But I again ask those who have not seen the movie to give me your thoughts on these statements.

  • Here is a question for those who are not aware of the rhetorical aspect of this video. After watching the video, do you find yourself in a deeper, more serious, yet somewhat confused, mood than you were in prior to watching this video? I believe that the black and white nature of this film, along with the intense voiceovers, can change the viewer's mood almost instantly. I also believe that this mood change will change the way the viewer interprets the film.

  • The video above still has the main lines of this scene that get this point across, but in this case, the viewer has no help from the lines to see that they are being influenced by the film. There is no pause or warning about this idea being thrown at them. In a way, this video could make the viewer feel at awe and hopelessunable to think for themselves

  • In response to the above comment that the viewer has no help to see that they are being influenced, I would offer the idea that the maker of this video did this on purpose in order to interpellate the viewer of the video. And I disagree that the bluntness of the video will make the viewer feel hopeless. I believe this "in-your-face" tactic will make the viewer piece together the words on the screen with the background sounds through neurosis, in order to make sense of the video's contents.

  • But in a way, when the viewer is watching, they are only getting the main ideas of the scene. Because of this the reader wouldn't be able to truly close read the scene given that they don't have all the information. Also the the bits and pieces method can make the narrator seem untrustworthy, since some lines are being withheld from the viewer. So not only is the viewer getting bits and pieces, they are also getting information from an untrustworthy source.

  • I see the validity of your argument, but I challenge you to look at the video through a different lens..of someone who has never seen actual movie. Under this lens, you will not know that the narrator is untrustworthy, and thus you will connect the pieces of this video coherently to draw a certain significance, even though some words have been taken out. In doing so, you consent to the message being shown to you, and have no worries about its validity. After all, ignorance is bliss, right?

  • This video is really interesting. What exactly was the purpose of the project? I noticed that there were a few lines that are in the movie, but not in the video and was wondering why they were excluded. I felt that these lines were important, because they helped the narrator, morpheus in this case, to influence the viewer and make them choose the "red pill" like Neo. The red pill, in this sense, would be that of self enlightenment, which leads to the true freedom of choice for an individual.

  • I loved the part where it goes, "splinter, in your mind"

    =)

  • thanks! =)

  • dude that part with fate was by far one of the best visual puns i have ever seen in kinetic typography!

  • Thanks for noting it! :)

  • subscribed!!!

  • this is amazing... you are a true artist.. were you paid for this because it seems like you put a hell of alot of work in and u deserve a good paycheck for it lol... but anyways.. kudos

  • aw I wish- but it's just a college project. Which I guess is just as well because that way the use of copyrighted material falls under the fair usage exception for education.. I think.

thanks for the subscription ^.^ come to think of, the same people who set out the project I did this for last year is coming 'round with a new set of projects this year, which my class will probably get before Xmas, though I'm not sure I'll opt for the video option yet.. we'll see.

  • best one i've seen - how long did this take?

  • I think the project took about 3 months or so.. Most of the time was spent picking the movie, developing the concept, having my lecturers chew up a few other ideas ideas, and choosing (and cropping/editing) the dialogue, etc. The actual creation of the movie took about a week of seemingly non-stop cutting out and taking about 1000 photos - the project folder weighs a wholesome 7 GB.

  • You said that making the movie involved cropping the dialogue. I am curious as to how and why you chose to keep certain parts of the dialogue and throw out others. Was it because the disregarded dialogue pieces were not important to the message you believed the scene was getting across? Or was it because the words you chose to keep were better fit to make the viewer of your video become involved in the message of your video?

  • Don't be amazed people comment cause we are all amazed you did such an incredible job without using digital means to make this thing.

You did it oldschool and it's comparable to everyone elses stuff. Nice work.

  • well, thank you :) I can't even say how much I appreciate it.

  • i dont know how yu do this but, it's amazing! if i was a college teacher id give this 100, how do u do that?

  • Thank you :) I did up the type on computer, printed it out, cut it out, projected it and photographed it. It was quite repetitive because, well, for instance, the letters of "Tumbling" were all cut out again for each individual frame, giving it a sort of rough stop motion feel.

  • well its incredible, and the "splinter in the mind" thing, very cool!

  • wow, i'm still so blow away that people actually comment. Much appreciated :)

  • cool

  • Wow stop motion with stencil cut... this is damn awsome. Definately some good crafting skills.

  • This is pretty awesome, Im not gonna lie.

  • hey thehuhu chill out man, someone put some effort in doing this you have the right to do not like it, but i bet you would not like if that was whit you

  • thanks man.

  • that must of been a hard pieced of work my college does'nt let media students do anything this creative only films and posters.I really want to learn this

  • Thanks

I broke the brief a little on this project, but they let me. I'm in Print, not Media, but they let you do this kind of thing. It's based on an International Society of Typographic Designers (they should change it 'cos the acronym makes 'ISTD'..) brief, which my college gives to 3rd and 4th years. Google it to find their website and current briefs. I'll be doing another brief next semester - my 4th year.

Good luck with your studies. Feel free 2 ask me more about this movie or whatever :)

  • Really good! Original work

  • thank you, glad you liked it :)

  • hey, your typography exercise is musch better and original that all the rest that are doing the same with the exact same technique (after effects). Creativity is the most important, you beat them all. :)

  • i agree! :)

  • thank you, too :)

  • Thanks, I'm really blown away that people even take the time to watch and comment. It means a lot to me, so thank you :)

  • um.. care to elaborate?

  • wow ur an idiot i wish u knew how much time was put into this

  • looks like it took 5 minutes to make...go watch the fight club or pulp fiction typography...this is horrible

  • comment part 1

thehuhu - this is just not dynamic... dynamic is something that you are trained by the system to like, because dynamic things, dynamic life is forcing you to only instinct reactions. also it don't give you time to look outside general situation (that what could be called system).

  • comment part 2

There is also entertainment, that try to keep You busy in your free time. system do not support things that allow individuals to contemplate. this is because conteplating could show you how system is using you, and what you really are.

Matrix movie is metaphor about system that rule the world from a long time. Search video google for Zaitgeist movie. Search about buddhism. And later wath first part of matrix one more time. And be nice! ;)

    sory for my english

  • Now, thehuhu, i had a look at your channel, and if this took "fifve minutes to make, even if it could be done, then why would you rather criticise peoples work for that ammount of time?

WHY NOT make a better one? by the way youre talking, you could do much better.

so why have you not made even one video?

  • Thanks, I appreciate your support. You're right, those that belittle (of course belittling is different from simply not liking something because it is not your taste) other peoples work haven't done much themselves.

  • The ending was fantastic. And the fact that you did that entirely out of paper... good god. That's pretty amazing.

  • thank you! :) I'm so amazed at all the comments and views still coming in.

  • now i feel like watching that movie lol good job.

  • it's a good movie, imo. though, the other two went downhill.

  • very nicely done

  • thx :)

  • Amazing! Stop motion will always be better than computer graphics.

  • Yeah, I admit I didn't feel that way when my lecturers insisted that the handmade quality created by cutting every frame out by hand was better- but it did pay off.

  • Waow. you actully cut all that by yourself???

If only I had that kind of patience.. Youd better had get something for doing it the hard way! LOVE MATRIX1

  • thanks :D yeah, I got good marks :)

  • Kudos!!

I like the "E"s turning into the red and blue pills That was neat

  • oh good, 'cos that was such a last minute idea :)

  • This was really really good!

  • thanks ^.^

  • Kewl! The scene is balanced excellently :)

  • thanks :)

  • Dude! this is fucken amazing!!!

Really intelligent design, completely intergrated, and seamless.

    BRILLIANT!

  • :D Thanks!!

  • that was stupidly cool, i really liked how it looked, the handmade quality seems to work for that speech :)

  • thanks :) I'm glad all those hours spent cutting paper paid off!

  • The blue pill on wards totally blew my mind, the "welcome to the real world" as it zoomed out caught me totally off guard. Awesome :D

  • hehe :D awesome, it really means a lot to me know that people get what I was trying to do with this project, thanks for letting me know :)

  • im actually studying graphics at college at the moment and i just wish that we were able to do something as interesting as what youd done here lol.

  • i loved loved loved the fate bit :D

    WOW clever!!

  • Thanks you :) glad you like it.

  • amazing.... y really like it :D...

    nice work... congratz

  • thank you! I appreciate the comment :D

  • Your creativity in this was amazing.

  • Thank you so much, I really appreciate all the feedback!

  • pretty good ending... nice scene selection.. although the stop motion made it somewhat annoying.

    Good Job tho

  • thanks :)

yeah, you have no idea- I had to cut a few corners and leave out dialogue that I'd have preferred to feature.. I originally wanted to do it in something like after effects or flash, but my lecturers loved the handmade kind of feel, and I gotta say that style is at the very least different from most of the kinetic typography I've seen on youtube.

  • kudos for all the work! i like the ending; reminds me of Plato's cave allegory. =)

  • thank you; yes! That's what I was going for.

Funny story, actually. I always label the cover of my research books for college projects with a stencil spray. And I was holding the stencil above the paper when I noticed that due to having two light sources, there were two shadows that merged and separated depending on the distance.

Eureka! Then I knew what to do for the project :)

  • nice! eureka indeed =)

  • I was thinking I'd rate it 3 or 4 stars, until I saw the ending... brilliant! (5 stars)

  • thanks so much! :)

  • wow!! this is so cool. this looks so tedious to do. but it turned out great!! 5 stars from me :D

  • thanks so much!

Yeah, after that I vowed to never touch another craft knife for as long as I lived.. :D

  • very cool, well done

  • Thank you! Glad you liked it :) thanks for the comment, too, much appreciated :)
