I owned a 2M4 in the early 2000s and there was a perfect place to place beverages: Between the instrument cluster and the dashboard. It was absolutely perfect!!

I know it was an SE. You have an impressive knowledge about Fieros. So you surely know that the GT was introduced in 1985, but the sail panel version came 1986.

Not trying to sound like a know-it-all, but it was an SE. Those came with the 2.8 V6. I have seen the previous owner of the car post, on Pennock's Fiero Forum, and it was a gold 86 SE.
I myself have an 88 Formula, which was the coupe bodystyle with the 2.8 in it, and a 5-speed, heck of a car!
So yeah, a really nice car, but not as nice as the 80-mile example the previous owner of the destroyed one picked up!
Ferrari was before Lamborghini. But Lamborghini came first with the mid-engine concept in the Miura and send Ferrari designers back to the drawing boards.
My heart is bleeding for the Fiero GT. It even had the aero front. What a shame. From what I know Pontiac recalled only those from the first year, 1984.
Pretty sure it wasn't a GT. The GT's were only notchbacks in 85, 86 and up they had a fastback design. They put the aero front fascias on the SE's as well.
This is precisely why US Top Gearwas scrapped: forced comedy and no chemistry from an uneducated weekend mechanic, an uncharismatic pro driver, and the poor-man's Kevin Smith. Couple that with the bellyaching from gearheads about "oh, it's a tragedy they trash cars", who find no incidental humor in the decline in American engineering the way Clarkson and crew do. Top Gear UK thrives on nothing but perfection (and good tv) being sacred...except for Alfas. Gotta love the Alfas.

Come on Tanner, I and all Fiero owners challenge you to do your full research (interview the professional restorers and Fiero experts) and do a full show on the evolution, ending by puting an up-graded (full suspension, with bump-steer fix, 3800SC swap) '87GT around the track. You'd lock-in thousands U.S. Top Gear fans, from Fiero lovers all over the world! You could tell and show the highly improved Lotus style suspension in the last year '88, then the up-graded '87 as described above.
