  • my pop and i have a model 586 with the nickel plating on it and honestly it looks more smith and wesson...iv always thought that blued wasnt their style

  • what are the prices of a speed reloader?

  • You could have shot him afterwards and got your knife back

  • I recommend you drill a hole in each of the dummies to make it easier to distinguish them from live rounds

  • Great job, good video quality.

  • do you still have this Jeff?

  • is the 586 just a black version of the 686?

  • @zhagray well its blued, but yes

  • @zhagray The 586 is the newer "improved" verison of the Model 19. The 686 is the stainless steel version of the 586

  • gorgeous... mine was too nice to shoot so I sold it ... LOL

  • The 586 was my FIRST ever gun. Love it !!

Identical to yours, except the grip is the factory standard

  • The 586 was my FIRST ever gun. Love it !!

  • Hey just a bit of a tip on the speed loader. using your strong hand is fine. you just use your weak hand push your cylinder out with your two middle fingers, so its like doing a hook'em horns, and use your thumb to eject the shells.

  • Safety sallys make me laugh. He clearly stated they were dummy rounds.

  • beautiful blued smith and wesson

  • this guy sounds like dan akroyed

  • How many inches is the barrel? I dont think he said it

  • @RADDxSTEEZY 3 inches, he hints to it at 3:57

  • drill holes through those rounds sou can clearly see there dummyy

  • Its a 586 haha. Get plastic Hogue grips they are alot nicer i have them on mine

  • Now THAT'S a friggin gun. Awesome gun that looks like it should be in the hands of a 1970s NYRD detective.

  • You might wanna fix your title... "586"

  • Hey great vid again.....like your videos...thanks for the great info you provide to nubes.

  • I have a 586 that has a 8 3/8 inch barrel how do you tell what frame it is? [k-frame or a L-frame] If anybody could tell me I would very thankful.

  • @mitch88m the 586 is a k-frame with L-frame grips

  • I have a 586 that has a 8 3/8 inch barrel I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind is it by that I mean is it a k-frame or a L-frame.

  • Dummy rounds that look exactly like live rounds that you fire to make sure they are inert. Sounds safe, man.

  • Don't you even know what model you have? You're holding a 586, not a 686.

  • i don't understand why people freak if you show a loaded gun on a video lol. its not going to shoot through you computer screen

  • Drill a hole through the side of the dummy rounds.

  • 4''?

  • sorry i just notice u said 686 aand the title says 586

  • Great overview. If I'm not mistaken though, you have the S&W 586 there. The 586 is blue, and the 686 is stainless steel. I bought my S&W 586 6 inch barrel in Oct of 83. Paid $317.00 for it including tax.

  • It may have already been mentioned, but that is a 586.

  • wow i thought you clicked it by accident at 4:50

  • Got any Desert Eagles? That wud be a great vid

  • lol ummm the title says 586. xD

  • if you have a 586 -0 or a 586 -1 there is a smith and wesson recall if the recall has been done there will be a M stamped inside the yoke. The recall involves the gun jamming using 357 loads

  • Jeff, what happened to this S&W? Did you trade this with someone? I haven't seen this gun in your collection videos. I'm just wondering what you did with this gun. Thanks.

  • what is the difference between a K or L frame?

  • @georyans theres a lot of different frames its exact size and sharpe that makes thwem different but its minute, they all are grips, lol..

  • @cutlerylover how about you trade me that gun for one of my knives!!!!!!?????

  • @georyans the L frame was more modern than the old, bulky N frame. Everyone (mostly cops) wanted something a little stronger but not as bulky as the N frame. The K frame is what they came up with. The K frame is in between the two, and is capable of handling powerful loads without being as heavy and bulky as the N frame.

  • I thought the older Smith and Wesson revolvers had the recessed cylinder and you couldn't see the cartridges sticking out the back of the cylinder. They seated flush in the cylinder when inserted.

  • nice gun do think you are ever going to get any silencer for any of youre guns

  • @jacobitejohn yes just not anytime soon, too expensive.cheapest one I ever saw was like $400, and no matter what model you get you have to register it and fill out paperwork and pay a $200 tax...

  • @cutlerylover what state u live in?

  • Yes these firearms were invented specifically to defend the Whites from the n words

  • Hmm. Where can I find Kevin Armstrongs revolver collection?

  • i have the SW 686 in co2. really nice

  • That's a great shootin' iron! Wheel guns are definitely making a comeback among collectors and casual shooters. Love the petina on the handle, matches the blue steel very nicely.

If you're looking for another, I'm a fan of post Civil-war style Cavalry revolvers; you can get reproductions that shoot better than the originals but look spot on.

By the way, typo in the title (586 vice 686).

  • dude, next time use flash caps so you dont give yourself or anyone else a heart attack

  • you mean snap caps? these rounds are empty and clearly have used primers...no worries here

  • @jfizzay He mentioned that they were dummie rounds, with used primers and no powder in the brass.

  • That is a sweet revo! Nice!

  • le facta volumen

  • after all that safty talk i would have shit in my pants if a live shot went of at 4:56

  • Comment removed

  • @ LouieTheGamer

No, the title's right, the 586 is blued steel (as seen in the video), while the 686 is the stainless steel variant.

  • Ahk sorry I'm a complete noob to guns.

  • dude you need to get a colt python totally worth 900 1500

  • Great deal on this one, culterylover!

  • Now all you need is a Smith & Wesson Model 29.

you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

  • they are dummy rounds that were made for me which I explain in the video...used primers with no poweder in them...

  • Sorry, I was kidding. Nice gun by the way.

  • awesome video! Is that an N frame? It seems very similar to my S&W model 10.

  • i thought the 686 had a 7 round cylinder?

  • only the 686-plus model.

  • ah, gotcha, i'll have to look for one of those, it looks like a pretty damn nice gun

  • I just got the model 13-3, the old 1980's FBI model...pretty cool gun

  • Nice gun reviews! i like the safety checks at the beginning, very good habit to have with all guns!

  • lol the title says 586 but the discription says 686

  • Its also the standard armament of Hong Kong police Force.

  • i just got a 686 snubby yesterday and i love it......great piece...

  • The L frame series by Smith & Wesson, represented by models 581/681 (fixed sights) and 586/686 (adjustable sights), are among the best .357 revolvers to be had. Great report!

  • God I would love to have one of those.

  • Good Gun XD!!

  • I see a lot of speed loading vids where the shooter loads with their free hand. I do the opposite and load with the grip hand. I just find it more comfortable that way. Nice gun btw.

  • nice video what is your opinion on that gun i want that gun it looks nice

  • Quit calling it a 686! It's a 586. The 686 is a stainless frame.

  • i own a 586-3, basicaly same with 6 inch barrel and nickel finish. s&w's are ecellent weapons

  • When I think about Revolvers, I think Colt 45 SAA

  • A used Smithis better than a new Taurus . Taurus are good , but Smiths are AWESOME .

    I WILL NEVER SELL MY 586 .

  • Did you sell this gun i think i thoght you said that in a new vid?

  • I traded it for a glock model 36...

  • How much would a used one cost? And could i find a similer gun with a 4 inch barrel in 357 for under 350 buvks? THanks i am in the market for my first gun and i want a revoler

  • even used these get about $600+ I woudl look into a taurus 357 magnum with 4" barrel, cheaper gun you will still be happy with...even a taurus woudl be like $400 - $500 used...357 revovlers arent cheap, but if you just like the revovler idea and go with a 22 you cna find alot cheaper models...

  • Thanks how much would a 22 be and would it be good for home defense? I like Semis but i want a fairly cheap one no more than 400 but i want one that will last i like the hk's walters and revolers what do you think would be best?

  • there are a bucnh fo different 22 caliuber pistols both in semi auto or revolver for under $400...22 is not the best idea for home defense though, nothgin beats a 12g shotgun for home defense and you cna buy a brand new pump action 12g for $300 sometiems less...

  • Well a shotgun would be an issue here we have very thin walls and i dont want to kill the neigobers. Can you get a 22 in hollow point? And thanks for the help i really want a hand gun for defense and for the range. Do they make hk's in 22 and is there a good website to look at for this info prices and stuff that way i dont have to bother you. But thank you very much for the help i love your vids dont always comment but i watch yours all the time they are very informitive and enteraining.

  • actually a 12g with birdshiot has less of a chance to penetrate through the wall then a 22...anyway yes you cna buy 22 hollow points.,.,.as for HK's they are expensive guns...noen of them are cheap, but I dont know offhand if they offer a 22 pistol...sorry

  • Well thanks for the info i think i am a bit biased towards a handgun But thank you for your help its nice to have extra opinions since i am going to sink 400 bucks in too it. Thanks and keep up the great work

  • .22?

    for home defense?

    no

  • any bullet can kill.

  • yes,

but if you ask, a lot of people will tell you that .22 should not be used for home defense, it can deffentitly kill, but is more likely to make a threat more angry that stop them.

  • Fuck what other people say

If you train with your .22 to be your home defense gun and you use the right ammo it does just as good of a job as the

    .357 mag

  • shoot them in the head they will never have a emotion again

  • i agree with you for the most part but all im saying is that in the event that a threat should enter your house you are most likey going not going to be able to calm down and get a head shot, i would just be more comfortable with a larger caliber (hollow point) lol who wouldnt if they could pick :D

  • one night when i was alone four weallers sorry for spelling just woke up um i got my 20 gauge loaded 3 shells and ran out the door one of them saw me with the gun and he yelled gun and they drove away

  • lol nice

  • what website did you go to trade guns?

  • well there is a section on bladeforums you cna trade non knife items, also glocktalk or anhy other gun forum...

  • Greetings CL,

I am thinking of buying an old 586 with a long barrel.

In this vid, you demonstrate the speed loader. I remember in the "Dirty Harry" movies he actually had rounds that were clustered in 6 and he stuck them straight into the revolving portion of the gun. Do they make ammo clusters like this without having to use a special loader?

Also, when you shoot this gun, do you have to compensate at all for the kick from such a large round?

    Thanks!!

  • Think they wereMoon Clips.. gun has to be modified....357 Magnum kicks, but not badly.... :-)

Get one, you will love it !

  • Great video, I really enjoyed it. I know you got this beauty in a trade but when you were looking at S&W revolvers, did you consider a 620 at all? Shorter underlug thus not quite as barrel heavy?

  • wouldn't it take the same pressure to push the cases out dummy or not since once they're fired the case would expand?

  • yes in this case since Im using expended rounds which were already shot...

  • its funny oh he says he wants like an old cowboy style gun and now he has one.

  • This imo is the nicest revolver around . They also made a special edition of this gun in 7 shot.

  • can u still get the 586???????

  • its looks like an anaconda black

  • it sucks you got rid of this gun i love it its beautiful

  • can u do a over view on the 1911

  • dont u mean 586???

  • yes I later found out the 686 was the stainless model, and changed the title once I realized I had a 586...

  • Someone should do a video on how to clean and maintain guns like your S&W 586. By the way, I also have a S&W 586 purchased from a cop that retired. Got his gun, holster, 2 speed loaders, speed loader holster, handcuffs, handcuff holster and belt. What a deal!

    P.S.

Love the vids, keep it up.

  • that is a nice gun!

  • thats the same gun i carry

  • those dummy rounds should be painted blue . they are an accident waiting to happen .

  • @peterm3964 ...he clearly doesnt see the issue (see response to jfizzay above)...maybe it will be OK and maybe he will repeat the same mistake many others have made.

  • is a gp100 as good as this gun?

  • this guy is just so awsome and his videos are great.

  • These are such great guns. I own a 4" S&W model 19 (very similar) and love it. By far the best pistol I've ever had.

  • There is nothing quite like blued steel. Nice.

  • If you're interested in collecting revolvers, I'd highly recommend buying a Colt Python! In fact, I read that the Smith & Wesson 586 was made to compete with Colt's famous Python. If you ever do obtain a Python, it would be great to see you do a video where you compare the two guns!

  • Your gun isn't a 686, 686 is stainless steel. But then again, yours is perfectly comparable to one.

  • i have the first model revolver its cap and ball amazing

  • I think its a 686, but idk much bout guns, dont take my word for it.

  • 686 is the stainless steel version of the 586-the 586 is blued-both are .357magnum

  • I have this same gun, but with a nickel finish. Wonderful gun. Mine's 23 or so years old and it still looks and shoots like brand new!

  • yeah man i had the gun in ss, i traded it for an xd 45 and miss it. it was my first handgun and it made me a better shooter cuz it was dead nuts at 25 yards.

  • Barrel lengths also come in 2 1/2" and 8 3/8". That sure looks like a 586 to me. Are you sure it's a 686?

  • that is a very nice gun

  • How old is that?

  • atoda nera

  • atoda nera

  • where do i find prostitutes for a trigger job?

  • Is this gun suitable for splitting the skulls of Islamic terrorists?

  • russian roulette anyone?

  • How will it mess up the barrel? Exactly what will it do to the barrel? Not sure, just asking. Thanks.

  • It won't ruin the barrel.

.357 magnum was developed from the .38 special. The only difference is the 357's case is longer to prevent loading in a .38, because of the higher pressures, shooting a .357 in a .38 will destroy the .38, but the .38 is the same diameter as the .357 but lighter in pressure, so it will not ruin the .357..

  • Yea I know. I was just asking rebel4life just to see what he would come up with. I was being sarcastic, you know. But your answer was exactly right. Hopefully people will gain some knowledge from your input.

  • Why even tell lies like that?

.38's can be shot in .357's and it will not harm the barrel..

Where'd you come up with this myth?

  • you don't know what your talking about you fucking dingleberry

  • No it wont. It just makes the foward chamber dirty.

  • your going to ruin the firing pin dry firing it like that.

  • wont hurt the firing pin it what so ever by dry firing or firing with snap caps or used primers....

  • Well if it were my $600 pistol, I would be afraid to risk it.

  • 2:38 Thats what she said.

  • Hi Jeff,

To check the model number it is stamped on the inside of the frame when you swing open the cylinder just above the cylinder pivot pin.

  • I'd suggest snap caps rather than dummy rounds. There is less chance of mistaking a real round for one.

  • Comment removed

  • haha Trigger job (something Beavis and Butthead would say)

  • Thank you for the review:)

Spray paint the dummy rounds? don't wanna confuse em...

i love single/double action abilities...is there a name for both?

"revolvers are very fun", so very true!!

S&W are (what i think to be) the spearhead in revolvers, good, reliable, fun.

    Thanks, again, for the review!

    God bless

  • oh and also, the person who made the reloads could have resized the case, not a big problem, but just to put it out there

  • blued finish is not black, its got a blue tint to it.

  • How do you do a gun trade. I heard its not legal just to ship guns in regular mail. Would I have to trade via a gun dealer or something??

  • yes, depending where you live you cna ship rifles and shotguns through UPS, but I dont think anywhere you cna ship, pistols through the mail, whem you want to ship a gun to someone you ship it to the closest FFL dealer from them and they go pick it up and pay a fee, usualy less than $50...most gun dealers are also FFL licensed...

  • that gun is NICE, i wish i could legally get a small silver revolver. 6 shot. that would be sick.

  • Sorry to correct you but what you have there is the Smith and Wesson 586 (blue finish). I have a 586 that I bought brand new myself. It is the Stainless Steel version that is the 686.

  • this is a model 686, which was offered in blue finish many eyars ago, notice the hammer has the striking pin attached to it, very old model, but it is a 686...

  • love this gun Jeff. i prefer it to your glock and 1911, it reminds me of watching c-h-i-p-s as a kid.

  • Can you get a glock 20c?

  • no, the glock model 20 is a full size 10mm glock, the only other 10mm glock is the subcompact model which is a model 29...

  • Great video, as usual. I've been interested in the 686 myself and this review just further solidified my interest in the revolver.

  • $650 dollar knife..... holy hell

  • can you please do a marlin model sixty review

  • Hm, duumy rounds. They should be made in such way, that on first glance it is apparent the difference between dummy and live. I seen army dummies with deep depresed ridges on sides. you can drill two 1mm holes on each thrid/fourth of circumferrence for this purpose.

  • Totally agree, that's a hell of a risk there!

  • Revolvers are the ultimate in dependability. They will not jam, fire when dirty, and fire when wet.Excellent caliber for great stopping power! A definite Ass Whipper. Great pistol!

    5/5

    Ed

  • nice reveiw

  • very nice review, love it to see how the speedloader works.

  • umm what does he mean by period? sorry i just didnt udnerstand

  • Period means full stop

  • period, like "period, end of story" its an expression...just meaning for sure or definate...no questions asked...
