I was reading through Guitar World's list of top 100 worst guitar solos. Well, I was surprised to see this Roy Buchanan piece on the list, so I came here to give it a good listen. It's not THAT bad! It sure sounds like good ol' Roy, but I have heard solos that were much worse.... *cough* (led zeppelin's "heartbreaker.") Wait... did I say that out loud?
Then again, nothing beats "The Messiah Will Come Again." That's Roy at his finest!
I've tried to like Roy Buchanan but he's the only guitarist that manages to hurt my ears with his piercing treble. I know Tele's are bright but this is like looking into the sun.
This is #1 on my list of awesomeness!!!!!! If I ran for president, this would be my entrance song, and I'd be wearing stilts.Seriously though... In a world where musicians are rated and categorized, its easy to see why the majority of people wouldnt understand whats going on in this song.
Buchanan creates such horrendous and annoying tones with his guitar that a more-appropriate title for this song would have been “Poking My Tele Up Godzilla’s Poop Chute.”
This guy is/was highly under rated. Anybody who says this guy sucks needs to check their facts, hell even Jeff Beck respects this guy, Roy did some insane playing and I mean that in a good way.
Just goes to show when people do something no one has done b4 or that is out of the norm it is over critiqued or frowned upon, fuck lists, people who rate music in the first place don't know how to enjoy it.
This song is genius in it's context, like everything Roy did.
I bet godzilla couldn't even sound this godzilla'ish
Looking around for videos of Roy Buchanan, I came across this one. If you think this is subpar, why don't you post a video reply where you show how it should have been done? Or even demonstrate that you can make the same sounds yourself. Roy's performances, like it or not, showcased his guitar mastery and this is a piece of his body of work. All serious electric guitarists study Roy Buchanan and the great players acknowledge his genius.
Nice attempt at getting the Godzilla sounds, but 6 minutes of it? When it's time to clear a party that won't leave, just put this on a loop and blast it.
No, man, you put on "The Black Angel's Death Song" off of The Velvet Underground And Nico- at least that's what I used to do- try it- it works- BTW, Roy Buchanan was a &^%$&$ genius....
anybody that says this song is not good or has no good guitar playing doesnt know for the life of them what good guitar playing is. and that is a fact.
I've gotta say that i LOVE Roy, the mans music made me LOVE the Telecaster and buy a 52 reissue! But sometimes he just dosn't hit the mark! This is one of those times i think. :( No ones perfect not even Roy. But what the fuck do i know? Ha ha
@coopertrooper87 Well you're entitled to your opinion. I love Roy, and I don't like everything he did either. But I've always thought this song was killer! One of my favorites by Roy.
Great Stuff, lazer breath n all, first time I heard this song I didn't know the title yet it still made me think of godzilla, when I found out the title, I just laughed in amusement. But it only goes to show how sound can paint a picture of things around us and feelings relating to those things as well. This Song is so unique and dead on, no wonder they consider Roy a god of electric guitar in Japan! lol,
Not that bad. He really manages to paint an image with the guitar here. Why would I care about what some self-important self-crowned losers of "generic rock magazine" have to say.
i'm not denying roy's obvious musicality in many great songs, but this song is truly raping my ears.. he sounds so obnoxious..

If this is 19 on a worst guitar solo list, that's a bad list.

Well I regard Roy's playing as very emotional here, perfection.
