your views on the matter are about 20 years too late. suck it up

  • @amr7037 yep they sound like karoake singers

  • its a nice song and its got a lovly toon

  • This is a brilliant piece of music with great lyrics that form a commentary rather than just a piece of music that can be danced too. A social commentary encompassing the individual travelling from the Punjab who made long journey to Britain and enshrines that generation that came in the 1960s & 1970s. Future generations of Punjabis can analyze this as the English landscape becomes part of a wider Punjabi folklore to along with the village life and the green fields in the Punjab.

  • translation "I try to find you on Soho Road with Ear rings in my ear"

  • @nefarious1969 this is one old ass song

  • aaah remember listenin to this song bak when i wuz mybe 8, purely nostalgic

  • Does anyone know who did that song "Holi Holi tehra mehra piyar hyogiya"? Total classic

  • Yes it was a group called Holley Holley (sp?) ffrom the Uk or Holi Holli they did not last long and that was there biggest hit.

  • where hav these bands gone they should bring out new songs n carry on performing like Gurdas maan

  • These guys were one of the best bands about. Along with Alaap, Heera, DCS, etc. Especially when they performed live. Not a lot of bands can perform well live but these guys were pukka and they can get a gig going....deffo Indian weddings.... And in the words of the sharabi Uncle who struggles to complete a mammoth multi-task by standing and shouting: ONE MORE!!! ONE MORE!!! LOL

  • hey, i really like this sort of indian music, not too medodic and stays at more or less one not. can you suggest any other artists or groups who might sound very similar. mabe some instrumentals. thanks :P

  • Dude, Sardara Gill now fronts ApnA by himself and is still in demand on the wedding circuit. He is going strong after 25 years ...ApnA is the Rolling Stones of Bhangra.

  • you'll be happy to know that they are reforming!

  • the tabla ji is not actualy playing a table but a Jori! it was invented by Siri Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj (5th Guru). Difference being the bass side, a dhama is used instead of a bayan with attah applied to produce the deep base resonance. Qawwals use wooden ones. But none the less its a sikh instrument.

  • claasssiccccc

  • If you're in the Toronto area... PLEASE look through your folks' video collections to see if there are any full programs or song clippings from the shows and let us see them.

  • If ANYBODY has got any old episodes of Toronto's Awaaz E Punjab TV program with Sami Dhillon... PLEASE upload them onto YouTube as soon as you can. This is where most of these classic artists recorded pure TV GOLD. They introduced artists like Malkit Singh, Mangal Singh, Premi, Heera, Apna Sangeet, Kuldip Manak, Sardool Sikander & Amar Noorie (naming a few) to North American Television.

  • i do but there all on tape

  • Upload them if you can yaar!!! For me it'll make amazing memories as my studio made those shows...

  • how do i do it?

  • If you have a Mini DV Camera that has the 3 connections (known as RCAs) & you can also plug the camera directly to your computer... it's simple. Copy the shows to some Mini DV tapes (pausing at the commercials of course). Once that's done, plug the camera into your computer with a Firewire & then upload the shows into 10 minute intervals as YouTube instructs (when you click Upload, they'll give the instructions)

  • Long live the pioneers of bhangra in the UK. You young ones with your western/black music influences don't you forget ever it!!

  • I remember this song sooo well, my family used to own a TV Studio in Toronto and we actually recorded this item. I believe it had been done for Sounds Of Asia TV but, Awaaz E Punjab used to play this song often on the show

  • this late 80s 88/89 the 2nd version didnt appael to the punjabis, neighbours from across the way did.

  • this is 90s not 80s

  • This is definitely the 80's, I know because I'm from that era. 7 years later in the early 90's Apna Sangeet remixed this song and was called Soho Road the return. In the remix there was a woman singing along with the lead singer Sardara Gill. I still have this tune both original and remix. It sounds brilliant, you can't beat old skool. It is probably the remix that you are referring to.

  • This was recorded around 1987

  • the DVD came out in the 90s but my friend... the ORIGINAL recording was in '87 if my memory serves me correctly... It was one of Apna's first tapes, "Mera Yaar". Tu Nach Tu Nach was in the '90s in the release Ronak Mela
