That noise you're wondering about is caused by the 'air-driers' almost every modern truck has one... if your window is down in traffic you may hear one pop off... trains have such large systems that they are equipped with several, both for capacity, and redundancy.
that pantograph is toast he must have hit a bridge with it but why dident the train computer detect it had damage and pulled the panto down to save on the damage
all kinds of stuff can damage a pantograph. im a lineman for amtrak, so thats my department. faults in the catenary (wires) broken parts on the pan, broken parts in the catenary, all kinds of stuff
time vs usage, normal wear and tear. i'm sure there is a long list of normal wear and maintanence care that they have to maintain. a little bit of oil does no good either if the bolts aren't replace. bunch of factors.

TEMPLE7D 1 year ago
@TEMPLE7D I meant to say its not air from the brakes. Its the compressor on the engine.

it didnt shut down because Greg, the engineer, didnt put the panto down and the panto fliped
XIXSICdrumerXIX 3 years ago
Why was it still making noise? Didn't they shut down the engine right away or was it STILL gathering electricity after the explosion?

Poor engine. Poor passengers. At least it happened in a trains station and they could make an easy transfer.
