I'm guessing because whoever has major control over the money markets, stocks, etc, pretty much controls the world itself. Typical Cassadine ambition for world power. :)

Thanks for posting these video's.  I never watched GH. What was the virus for?

The release of the virus on GH is just to test it out to see what kind of damage it does and, if memory serves, Stefan is going to use it to control the world's financial systems. I think he says later on what his intentions are but I haven't gotten that far in editing the clips yet.
