  • Want to make and sell your own iPhone app idea? Download AppWizard to create your own iPhone application without ANY programming

  • why it's so shaky? have you heard about image stabilization and values averaging? it's not a gun sight to keep it updated with any tiny shake, it really annoys a user.

  • @BreakStorm718

I agree, the iPhone 4g will have some nice upgrades, the only thing dissapointing is that the screen is smaller.

A lot of people Browsing this comment don't have the money to buy Apples latest iPhone, since it will be $489

However I found out on the Apple website Friday they are giving away a few thousand iPhone 4gs. Save ya some time, this will take you to Apples contest webpage ... just copy and paste

  • All you're doing is holding an iPhone up against a blurry background. Zoom out next time so we can see something besides the viewfinder.

  • I'm want to start working on an AR application next summer break that will be able to display information about buildings, street advertising, bus/train/metro stops schedules, etc. using an online database & gps positioning using 3d markers..

  • AHHHH MY EARS

  • hahaha best commet :D

  • N97 has it to.

  • what's it called on the n97?

  • its not ar, its gps and accelerometre

  • you always find what it is that you are looking for,

in the very last place that you look.

  • Non si vede niente.........svegliaaaaaa

  • This isn't half as fast getting a lock like in this video. It takes a good 5 to 10 minutes to get a fix.

  • What the fuck, the future is here.

  • This is so freaking COOL! New York version please!!!

  • lol ull get mugged walking around with that thing

  • You get mugged a lot in Iceland?

  • y the fuck the world need gps then?

  • LOOK we need gps yes but not all of this shit lol

  • it might become usefull. u never know.

  • Yea but not all the time maybe just for fun you know.

  • Holding your phone out in front of you in a busy street is asking for trouble!

  • Damn that iPhone 3GS. Now I have to get one. LOL

  • everyone who bitches and complains or rags on the iphone is just jealous they dont have one.

  • If you have a Palm Pre then there's a homebrew app with a compass.

It should be able to do this. I wonder if they'll make an app for the Palm Pre.

  • Stand near magnets.

    Shit goes wild!

  • I think the screen overlay is cool but eventually would be too gimmicky. As pointed out, holding your iPhone out like that, just marked you as tourist and is asking for trouble. I rather have it in my pocket while relaying directions to me through the earphone.

  • but thats satnav, not AR, AR is to do with video

  • how can gps work underground

  • Why do you assume everybody who uses YouTube and has an iPhone has AT&T as their carrier?

  • When is the eyeglasses version ?

  • or you weep casue your poor

  • i had this idea at least a year ago...

    damnit

  • Apex, come on! It's simple to see that the incorporation of this technology is difficult. Did we have cheap mobile phones with accelerometers and cameras in them 2 decades ago?? Seriously there is a ton of things that conflict with your lame sarcastic comment.

  • Which phone or OS it can or can't run on isn't really relevant... I think the more pressing issue is the fact that anyone wandering around London (or any other large city) holding an expensive smartphone up in tront of them is pretty much asking to be mugged.

  • Bet it doesn't work Underground through! It'd also be nice to know which passage to go down when you are trying to change trains too.

  • is this app Real? I dont see it on App store? or are they just F***** with us?

  • it's a demo. It's only possible in 3.1 or higher

  • Not as good as the Nivida one. It have 3D models inserted into the scene instead of just labels.

  • Thats cus the nVidia one runs on nVidia tech so its got a more powerful graphics system, you numpty

  • iPhone can do 3D as well. Quite well, actually.

  • I was looking for Brixton Tube and now I haven't got a iPhone anymore.....

  • LMAO :D

  • @oocares Roflmao!! XD Unlucky. I heard there's been a lot less crime there. I guess not... lol

  • pulling an iphone out when in brixton wasn' t the brightest of ideas...

  • OMG shneiderjacob, you have no penis!

  • you didnt show what it could do!!!

  • my word, that is a very dapper app indeed.

  • I would really like to see how they have gained access to the low level camera functions without calling undocumented functions or using the platform headers... Interesting to see if this actually makes it to the app store.

    Bloody restrictive platform.

  • Apple has allowed developers to use the camera this way through the 3.1 beta software. I believe the 3.1 update is being scheduled for release to all iphone users next month (September) x

  • It is on the acrossair website and for sale on the apps store. It uses GPS, digital compass chip and the accelerometer and the Video to overlay the locations. Very clever using all the technology possible. Probably one of the smartest apps out there and more will follow like this.

  • Nice Android copy. ;) For more like like this, check our Wikitude, Sky Maps, the vOICe etc. for Android phones.

  • I wish I could have use this!

  • Now you need to make one to find prostitutes

  • When will facebook support geotagging?

  • Nice that is cool!

  • völlig geil.

alle leute haben über einen integrierten kompass gelacht.

ohne wäre diese app nicht möglich.

    completely cool .

people laughed about an builtin-kompass .

without the kompass, that app would'nt be possible.

  • I came here from Pocket GPS World, so I am certain this is genuine. I agree that the demo is poor. The voice "artist" is good. Things like this done with an American voice seem so much more professional. Just in this case the production is crap.

It's amazing what you can do with the camera, GPS, compass and tilt sensor all combined. How this is any better than just having the stations overlays on a google map. I don't live in London so I am not really bothered, but I like the idea of it.

  • The iPhone doesn't pan at the end, the camera does — watch the image on the iPhone's screen.

  • Why wouldn't this be real?

Half my friends built applications like this for MIDs in college.

  • Why would this be fake?

Half of my friends in college built apps like this, just on a different OS (not mobile.)

I've played with a ton of these...

  • This is fake.

There's no method of getting a live video feed and compositioning elements on top of it on the iPhone. Any method that does do this will not be allowed by Apple, as it would violate their terms of agreement that state you can only use public api's.

Augmented Reality will not come to the iPhone until Apple makes some changes to the SDK which allows you to get the live video feed.

  • This isn't fake, the iPhone is probably the only phone capable of this, but you're right, Apple needs to change their agreement in order for this to get in hands of the public.

  • This is already done in Android (HTC Magic)

  • Not exactly. Virtual augmentation differs much on the iPhone for two reasons: One, because the "HTC Magic" isn't a fully phone, it has a crippled OS, and that means the possibilities with VA are quite limited on the Magic. For example, I don' think the Magic would have games and software with these features that would run as fast as the 3GS, and that's because of the 400MG RAM on the iPhone. See my point? OH, and last thing, you only find about one video about AV on the Magic, cus it's crippled

  • "because the HTC Magic isn't a fully phone, it has a crippled OS"

That's a misleading statement. The crippling of the OS is dependent on provider and location/country. AT&T is crippling the IPhone by not allowing for tethering, for example. I don't deny that the 3GS is extremely powerful, but it has its own faults, mostly in Apple's restrictive (and bizarre at times) development policies.

  • "Half of my friends in college built apps like this, just on a different OS (not mobile.)"

    Half of zero is?

  • You sound sexy.. like an american expat in london.. show us your face

  • If that works well and is reliable, I'm seriously impressed.

  • great stuff. larry put in this feature request four years ago, what took you so long? ;)

  • Bullshit! This app is average at best...no wait. It's just the demo vid is terrible!! You need to redo this and make a better demo. This could easily under sell what your app can do. Get a better voice over while your at it.

  • Spot on. Terrible video but looks like an amazing app.

  • exactly what I was thinking

  • Game changing. Bravo!

  • You missed a trick here. Surely the app could also work out my average walking speed so that as well as the distance to destination it could also display time to walk to it? :)

  • And when will this be available?

  • It was submitted to Apple for approval yesterday. We will make it available as soon as we are able.
