  • June Anderson did one of the best jobs

  • Callas, Moffo and Sutherland.

    Cotrubas is flat

  • Mariella Devia absolutely!!!!

  • The one and only Dame Joan!

  • sutherland......jajajajajajajajajajaja....sin duda de ningun tipo...........arrolladora simplemente....una bestia..........

  • My vote is Netrebko, I don't care about the technical aspect of it. I just love the tone of her voice, it sounds so full. Sutherland as well.

  • After listening to all of these ladies and others, I will take the full bodied sound, solid notes, emotion and musicality of Leontyne Price above all of the rest.

  • Callas and Moffo!

  • The " best" E Flat, speaking technically, is Sutherland, of course, by a mile. In terms of capturing Violetta's defiance - the emotion and psychology of the character in the moment - I think it's Moffo, with Devia right behind her. It's odd not picking Callas, who is usually my favorite in just about everything. But here it doesn't feel like the character is expressing determination, it feels like a singer in trouble.

    Great contest, thanks PacoChile!

  • Jeah right! Sutherland hasn't won at all, hers might be pure, but is also flat and dull, because mechanical! Callas, Dessay or Moffo get the climactic effect in a more energetic effect to my opinion.

  • @velazquez2011 I agree !

  • DESSAY! All the others are forced and shrill... But I think a good second is June Anderson.

  • Ruth's is a half note sharper...

  • Does it matter who sings the fucking E flat? What about the music?

  • @goodguysdoll take it easy man

  • Many of these E=flats are very good, They all have different ways of approaching it. Some get a running start by omitting a few measures or more before to catch their breath. Deutokom has a great E-flat but she actually sings the wrong note just before - she sings E-flat to E-flat instead of G to E-flat. (There is no high E-flat in the score , it is written B-flat - I hope you all know that.) I care more about what goes on before that-are they singing the fast notes in tune, etc?

  • I'm partial to June Anderson--it is utterly devoid of shriek. Clear, clean, beautiful. Joan Sutherland is a close second.

  • Callas is the shrieking of a wounded animal. Gruberova is bad.

IMO Here it is Sutherland. Moffo and Jo.

  • Callas forever!!!! Both her Mexico Traviatas are amazing

  • @turnipoverlord Callas est horrible !

  • @operalover42 hahahahaha!!!

  • @operalover42 Pas pour la majorité, Dieu merci!!!

  • Dame Joan.

  • Sutherland is the clear winner of this battle.

  • - As for the note, the only perfect E's flat is Sutherland's. But, please, where are Beverly Sills or Renata Scotto and Magda Olivero ????? In this recording Gruberova is screaming, but there are sensational E's flat in her private recordings of Traviata !

  • even though callas is my favorite, sumi jo has this different way of singing this aria and i like ut very much!!!!! BRAVE DIVINE!!!

  • Callas, Devia, Anderson, Gruberova !!!! :-)

  • Pako chile te pasaste!!!!!Muy buen tu compilacion...para mi Devia y Callas son las mejores; pero todas son excellentes!!!

    Te agradesco tu aporte!!!!!!!!!

  • Callas is the best and very good is Devia

  • Joan Sutherland is the Queen of High E's .
